He always slurs his words, but a few weeks ago on the radio, he most definitely was tanked. I mean hammered. The hosts had to cut him off it was so obvious. http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/16931809/Bernie#./Bernie?&_suid=135792125925207514357065011827
  3. I think it is a stupid ploy to try to get the Sherriff to put deputies back on patrol there at the County's expense and/or to force Cleveland Heights and the City of Cleveland to step up their mutual aid contributions. I don't think it will work. Three patrol officers per shift is ridiculous. It is downright dangerous..... for the officers. There should be no less than two officers PER CAR in that city. I can't determine if this is the more stupid than the idea they had a few years ago to have the firefighters doing landscaping work around the city during their "downtime." I never thought they would come up with a idea to rival that idiocracy

You both are forgetting that the orignal plan with Sheard was to play him at the rush DE on the right side of the defense. That is where you put your speed rushers in hybrid roles. But it turns out he was much better playing the strong side with his hand in the ground all the time. What worries me about switching to a 3-4 is that we are minimizing perhaps the team's greatest strength, which is a deep and disruptive defensive line. It also exposes perhaps our greatest weakness on defense, which is a lack of depth and talent at LB. In a 3-4, your lineman are asked to do little more than keep the OL off the LBs. The LBs have to be playmakers. DQ52 already showed himself to be much, much more effective in a 4-3 with two big tackles in front of him. We don't have anyone to play the hybrid OLB role (I guess you can lock in either Jarvis Jones or Demontrae Moore with the #6 pick). I think Taylor and Rubin can both play DE in the 3-4, but it takes away their ability to disrupt plays in the backfield. I don't think either is going to be happy with playing NT. I suppose it is only fitting that, after years and years of not being able to get pressure on the QB with our front four, we are going in a different direction just one year after we were able to apply that pressure on a consistent basis with the personnel we had. Rant off. I am going back to my positive outlook.

Coach Chud! Not jumping for joy, but I wasn't head over heals for any of the realistic candidates. I'm glad hes not the type of guy that is going to need to reload on offensives personnel. All the investments we made over the past 2 years should fit his system. I just really hope he's agreeable to running a 4-3

Sherrod is from Mansfield..... regardless, I wasn't suggesting that the stigma applied to all NEO liberals, just Cleveland. After all, if we eliminated all NEO liberals from running for statewide office, there wouldn't be anyone for the Dems to nominate ;)

Yep. Public Official. The original FBI report deleted names. He was "PO-14". I guess I mixed up my anagrams. Point remains that it simply was a reference point and Fitzgerald was not charged in any way with any culpability in the corruption scandal.
  8. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
"PO" = person of interest........ i.e. someone law enforcement feels has some information or involvement in a criminal investigation. It is a very general term used by the DOJ and does not specificy what the "interest" is... Fitz was a PO in the Cuyahoga County corruption scandal.
  9. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
PO (as used by the DOJ) is a term that has been twisted and blown way out of proportion. Anyone who MIGHT have SOME relevant knowledge which MIGHT be relevant to some investigation is a "PO."

The non-stop NBA rumor mill is now saying that we were in talks to trade Andy to the Clips for a package centered on DeAndre Jordan (with maybe Eric Bledsoe included as well). Man would I have loved to land Jordan. I am not sure he will ever be an All-Star, but he is going to play center in this league for a long time and is exactly the type of physical presence we need inside on the defensive end. I suppose this is why the Cavs were trying to keep a lid on the issues with Andy's knee. Regardless, glad to hear that they are no doubt constantly looking for ways to revamp this roster. Last night's game was certainly "watchable" ;) I really, really like what Shaun Livingston has brought to the bench bunch.

Looks like the Kings will be moving to Seattle. I suppose it was only a matter of timing for the Maloofs to sell the team and no potential buyer was going to keep it in SacTown

I'm certainly not going out of my way to go to any games, but I still enjoy watching them. It is a watchable crappy team. If I could make it through the Darius Miles/Ricky Davis year, I can make it through this.

Mike Zimmer is interviewing today. I would be fine with him. At least he plays a 4-3

There isn't a franchise in the NBA that wouldn't happily build around Lebron James. Not doing so would've been inexplicable...... unless you knew he was leaving. Sure, you can always say that W's and L's is the bottom line. But let's look at what he has done. Can you imagine where the franchise would be without Kyrie? It was Gilbert's willingness to take on Baron Davis's contract, in the middle of a disastrous season, which got us that pick. He has also shown that he is not hesitant at all to pay into the luxury tax. He can't do anything about the fact that the NBA is in such a diva stage that the top-notch players are dictating that they will only go to a very few select markets. If he could open up the checkbook and sign the best player on the FA market, I'm sure he would. The same certainly can't be said about Dolan, and you can't even compare the ever-absent Randy Lerner. Andy, BTW, is out 6-8 weeks with a muscle tear...... errrrr..... I mean a 'bruise'

Not too much like dog poo. If they don't make the playoffs and their pick is in the lottery, we forfeit that right to swap.

I can't see Fitzgerald winning a statewide race. He doesn't have the right pedigree. Who is the last liberal from the Cleveland are to win a statewide race? The rest of the state already despises Cleveland, so he has that going against him. He is a liberal, so that is a double whammy for the rural and SW Ohio folks. And he has ties to the Cuyahoga County democratic party, which won't play well in campaign ads. To win a statewide election, the dems need someone of Strickland's pedigree...... someone who will win the Ohio River, particularly the WVa border. He/she can't be from Cleveland or Toledo. The candidate would need to be from Youngstown or somewhere south of that. The only exception would be a true transformative candidate that would really build up enthusiasm in the younger and minority voter bases and I can't think of who that would be....... plus, the fact we elect our Governors during the midterm naturally skews the turnout towards the conservatives. I assume it's a little bit of both. Unless Strickland's really not feeling up to a campaign (he's no spring chicken) it's probably safe to assume that a poll has been taken. And unless he's had his mind made up for a while (and is just now letting people know) he's probably heard both encouraging and discouraging voices from within his political circle. I don't think it is either. Strickland is very active on the national scene now and probably wants to keep it that way. "Easy"? Doubt it. Kasich barely squeked by in Round 1 and has since alienated certain crucial blocks within his voter base, most notably the public employees (cops and firefighters) who voted for him and, more importantly, endorsed his candidacy. Whomever he goes up against is going to have a good shot due to his choice to balance the state budget by breaking the backs of local budgets.

Andy's quad (cough, cough.... I mean knee) is getting to be very worrisome. I thought the media was just joking around with Scott a week or two ago, but it does appear that there is something going on here that the Cavs don't want to reveal.

I was thinking..... how many re-treads have really worked out that well? Parcells, I think, is the one who started this whole big name coach saves a downtrodden franchise bit. I suppose Shanahan gong to Washington can somewhat fit that mold, although he didn't start winning until they mortgaged their future to get RGIII (and now it apepars he may not even play next year). But just looking at recent history - Tom Coughlin, Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin - the last four super bowl winners, did not have that pedigree. Belichek didn't have it until hired by the Pats, same goes for Cowher with Pittsburgh, Dungy with Indy, Billick with Baltimore, Shannahan when he was with the Broncos. Gruden took over Tampa based on his success with Oakland, but Tampa was already loaded and won the Super Bowl with the team in place when Gruden took over. Soooooo....... why the need for a big name? I remember Giants fans having panic attacks about Coughlin and he has got them 2 superbowl wins. People questioned Tomlin's credentials and he has taken the Steelers to 2 superbowls.

Lived here for 7 years. Very comfortable...... seriously, I can't think of a better way to describe it. Unfortunately, like the rest of the South, it is still very segregated. One side of downtown had predominantly black colleges (A&T and Bennet) while the other side had predominantly white colleges (UNCG, Greensboro College, and Guilford College). What was great about living there during my school years is the amount of college students within an hour drive or less with the schools mentioned above + Elon, WSSU, Wake Forest, Duke, UNC-Chappel Hill, UNCC, NC St., and more I'm surely forgetting. Also, it was great to be within a few hour drive of either the ocean or the mountains....... and, most importantly, just a 7 hr trip up 77 to go HOME Anyone know or care to guess the historical significance of the Woolworth store shown above?

^How is that somehow his fault? I'd say he was running it fairly well until he got kicked in the balls by The Decision. He is also severely handi-capped, in terms of attracting talent, in a way the Browns and Indians are not..... at least not to the same extent.

As long as House Speaker Batchelder double-dips, I wouldn't hold out any hope for any local limitations. Why hasn't the PD taken him to task for doing it? What about all of the school superintendents who do it? What about the law directors, human resource directors, and other well paid public officials?
  24. Hts121 replied to MyTwoSense's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
^Maybe I'm missing something but perhaps the lack of information on costs is because there technically is no added cost. Let's just suppose Johnson retired and stayed retired. He'd be earning his pension at let's just give it a round figure of $1,000/mo. A new councilperson is appointed/elected to replace him and recieved the councilperson's salary of, again just a round figure, $2,000/mo. The total cost is $3,000 for both. Now..... let's not appoint/elect a new council person and put Johnson back in, both recieving his pension and his regular salary. The total cost would remain $3,000/mo and the services recieved would be the same as well. If all of that is correct, then what we are dealing with is more people getting mad about what Johnson is receiving, not what it costs. Yes..... because of the target. But what about the double dippers in Moreland Hills, Bentleyville, Oakwood, Macedonia, Chester Twp., Ravenna, etc.? Why the outrage over this guy?
  25. Hts121 replied to MyTwoSense's post in a topic in Ohio Politics
You'd be hard pressed to find a major municipality...... maybe even a small village or township...... that doesn't have someone on the books who is technically "double-dipping". This is an issue to raise down in Columbus as it is allowed under the law. And it's not like the City of Cleveland is losing any money over this. Someone would be filling that seat and receiving that salary and Johnson would still be receiving his pension. I get that it doesn't pass the smell test, but let's not pretend that the City and its constituents are paying twice here.
