Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Kind of hard to close out a game without your closer (Kyrie). But I have been very happy with the way this team has been competing since Kyrie went down. I thought we would see some lopsided losses and that hasn't occured. In fact, the past two games, they took two of the best teams in the league down to the wire. We need to storm Stern's office if Andy is not selected for the All-Star team. His effort is off the charts and he is basically carrying us at this point. Dion is also stepping in nicely as the playmaker and Gee is putting on a defensive clinic night in and night out. Lack of depth, experience and elite talent is what is doing us in.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
While my gut tells me she likely played some role in his death, even if it was just neglect and not some malicious act..... I can't help but think what she is going through right now if she didn't. She spends the night she finds out her 3yr old is dead in jail. FWIW, I think there is something more to this woman being placed in the custody of the county up until three months ago than what the media knows or is reporting. Mental illness perhaps?

^I'm not sure how the moby was dragging on the ground unless you didn't have it tied correctly. My wife ties it in the back and then wraps it around the front so there is no slack left to hang down.

Sorry for being so blunt, but the road is already plowed. Might as well let another delivery come through. For our first, my wife was in labor for 22 hours and was stuck in the "pushing" stage for nearly 2 hours before the Doc pulled the baby out with a suction cup. For our second, the labor was only about 5 hours and, once the doctor said to start pushing, the baby popped right out. And FYI, if she doesn't already have one, you might want to think about getting the wife a moby wrap. http://www.mobywrap.com/ Total game-changer. Our second child lived in that wrap when she was an infant. Wife would grocery shop, vacuum, whatever and the baby was totally chilled. It probably gives them the feeling that they are back in the womb

Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
Good news. I stopped into the Wade Park facility the other week and it was absolutely packed. I am not sure the transition from closing Brecksville is going all that well, even with the added space provided by the new construction.

Kyrie out 4 weeks with fractured finger. Looks like Dion is gonna have to grow up real quick..... breaking out of his mini-slump would be a start. I think we have to play Boobie in place of KI2, which is going to make our bench that much more cwappy. This could get ugly

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Not to gloat or to say in anyway that Trent Richardson is not a premier draft pick, but I now get to go around asking all the nay-sayers what was so ridiculous about advocating for the Browns to select a CB high in this past draft..... ^Actually..... if you used the point spread provided by Vegas, you might have actually turned a profit betting on the Browns this year. Teams are having trouble covering the spread against them

Wanna re-neg? TSUN can have Toledo if they give us the upper peninsula. They can't have their cake and eat it too.

Secretary of State John Husted
Sorry John, but Husted's track record this election allows for some serious criticism and accusations of partisanship. Many of these actions were so blatant that they drew a dark cloud of national attention over our state. The most obvious of these, of course, was the attempt to block early voting during the three days leading up to the election knowing full well the intent of that decree was to frustrate the "souls to the polls" initiative which brings minority votes in for the democrats...... especially when you consider that he left the decision up to the county boards, each of which contain 2 republicans and 1 democrat. This resulted in all of the urban counties blocking early voting and all of the rural counties allowing it. That couldn't have been any more thinly veiled than if the directive he issued been titled "Jim Crow" Don't buy into the "attempting to comply with Judge Marbley's ruling" BS either. If that was the case, there would be a firm paper trail he could point to. Fact is, Husted was under incredible pressure from those who hold his political future in their hands...... the state and national GOP parties. They thought he could be their secret weapon. As for your questions, have you read the court opinion or the legislative history which led to passage of the law at issue? I think those are the two best sources to find the answers you seek.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
You can certainly argue that the abatement wasn't necessary or fair, but you the fact remains that it was a take it or leave it deal for the developer. They weren't going to do the project without the abatement. It wasn't icing on the cake. It was a requirement. When you look at the competition, you can understand why. Each and every proposal depended on some kind of subsidy. Personally, I would rather have a tax abatement than give the property to a different developer who was going to build something that would have HUD contingcies attached....... permanent contingencies, such as a low income component. This was also the only proposal which envisioned a mixed use building. So you can theorize about what might have come about in the future which failed to present ever since the Cincy developer screwed over the City, but it is hard to argue that the City had better options

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
^I haven't. I was basing my opinion off of some ranking I saw a few years back maybe in Cleveland Magazine? ^^Fair enough. I just get frustrated because it seems we can never discuss DEVELOPMENT in CH on this board without the same 'shifting demographics' comments and the same BS, strawman "making excuses" schtick being tossed in. Imagine how the mods would react if the same happened in the Tremont or OC developments thread. I just think that discussion can be had in a different thread (City discussions?) if there is such a burning desire to do so.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The bench is just a disaster. That group is digging holes which the starters can't fight their way out of. The good news is that a decent bench can probably be bought via free agency and we have an owner who is willing to spend. The bad news is that we usually have to overpay free agents to play here over more attractive winter destinations and/or more solidified teams. At the moment, absent some total reversal of how they are playing, we might be well served to reallys start scouting the D-league to hopefully find a diamond in the rough. I wonder if Lester Hudson is still looking for a team? I was waiting for Dion to have an off-night. He wasn't taking bad shots last night..... they just weren't falling. Serious question - has there ever been a player in the history of the NBA that had his dunks blocked more than Tristan? It seems as if that straight up with two hands move he uses results in the ball being swatted more than it does in a dunk. Last year, I thought it was just a matter of adding some upper body strenth. It seems to be more than just that.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
I'm just giving a different opinion, as usual, on your constantly repeated sentiment of the drastic decline of Cleveland Heights. It almost seems like a reflex any and every time you make mention of the City. Many people disagree with you and many people disagree with me. That's why both of our perceptions are really nothing more than opinion, not fact. People use different characteristics to judge decline. I'm sure your career has led you to use certain formulas. My life, especially when it comes to CH, has led me to use a different formula than you might have been taught. Now can we get back to development?

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
I am not a 'neighborhoodie' (whatever that might mean). I don't live in CH now and have never lived in the Cedar-Lee neighborhood. If anyone constantly gets defensive, it's you with your constant 'shifting demographics' meme. If you want to talk about cause and effect for whatever these shifts are that make you clutch your purse, I could argue that you need look no further than your own mirror. I simply gave my opinion of the current state of Cedar-Lee, because I do frequent the neighborhood and I am well aware of where it was 20 years ago because I was there everyday back then. Whatever utopia you think existed 20 years ago was not reality. I wasn't being defensive at all. That is honestly how I perceive it to be.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
^^^I would argue that the perception of the Cedar-Lee area has actually improved over the past 20 years. Perception of CH as a whole might have declined, and we can argue until the cows come home the reasons for that perception, but this particular neighborhood is somewhat different. What was a McDonald's 20 years ago is the best Thai restaraunt in the Greater Cleveland area. The pubs are as lively as ever. There is a 24 hr CVS and a full service grocery store. The library keeps getting better. Whitmores is no more. The HS's security has gotten tighter and the businesses on the strip aren't having the same trouble with students that they were in the late 80's / early 90's. ^I don't know about this development fitting the model of a chain restaraunt.... if for no other reason, there won't be dedicated parking for that restaraunt. That's what makes Cedar Center North attractive to those businesses which have a model they try to fit no matter where the proposed location is. ^^Restaraunts struggle everywhere, anytime. The failure rate for the restaraunt business is astounding.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
This project includes offices. It is as 'mixed-use' as they come. I am 99% confident that this project can only have a positive impact on the vacancy rates in the surrounding neighborhood. The competition for these units will be in UC and Downtown. There really is no comparable rental building in CH. It will appeal to a demographic which CH struggles to retain..... that being, the younger crowd which is not ready to buy, but wants modern amenities in their units.
