Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I could just as easily argue that height restrictions, in Cleveland's market, encourages density. Regardless, is anyone going to make the argument that the height restrictions in the WHD have "thwarted" development on those lots? Would you argue that the City would not, without hesitation, remove any restrictions if somebody proposed building there. 327, my point to you is not that you are totally off-base. But your foaming at the mouth hatred for everything City Hall causes you to use some descriptors which completely takes away from any point you were trying to make. I just did the same in the previous sentence.

None of those actively encourage your urban fantasy land.... but saying that any of those "actively thwarts density" requires gigantic leaps of logic and total ignorance of how zoning works and its effects.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^Which written policies? Not the ones you believe exist behind closed doors. Specifically, can you point to the written policy here in Cleveland which "actively thwarts density" and the specific counterpart in Pittsburgh which you believe does the opposite. I bet you can't and that you will respond with some very vague conclusions and leaps of logic that belong in a blog. And don't try and pass off something you feel is less than forcing an urban utopia as a "policy" which "actively thwarts density"

Not a very strong list IMO. Certainly no Guns'N'Roses or Beastie Boys on the list like last year.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel ran for US Senate.
I haven't seen many political signs around me at all. A few "support our schools" signs, but very few signs relating to candidates. i suspect people are seeing a lot of Mandel signs because his campaign (and the SuperPACs providing massive amounts of supplemental funding) made the decision to invest in and pass out signs early.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Shurmer's response to questioning on that call was essentially that his rookie QB threw a bad pass. Unbelievable. Dead man talking

^That's odd. I find common perception, especially from people who aren't familiar with either area, to be the exact opposite.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I see what you did there at the end ;) We can debate whether you take TRich out on obvious 3rd down passing plays. But your point is spot on for 3rd and short. At the very least, having him out there keeps the box stacked and even if you are going to pass (and even if you are in the shotgun) you still play action to him every time in that situation. Let's face it, the west coast offense should have never been brought here to begin with. Incorporating palm trees into the stadium's landscaping makes about as much sense.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Pittsburgh is an appalachian city, must more like the Ohio Valley. Cleveland is a Great Lakes city, much more like Detroit, Milwaukee, Buffalo. I never understood the constant comparisons. Pittsburg reminds me 10x more of Cincinnati or Charleston than it reminds me of Cleveland. Totally different people and totally different feel.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
They may not end with Shurmer, but the Browns' problems certainly start with him. In the second quarter, we're up 17-10 and driving in Giants' territory. Trent just had two decent gains to get us in 3rd-and-1. Shurmer takes Trent out and calls for a 15 yard hook which is intercepted and returned into Browns territory. Horrible play call. Completely swung the momentum to the Giants, especially when the 'butterfly effect' is Cribbs fumbling the ensuing kick return after the Giants score and tie the game. Giants recover the fumble and score again to take the lead going into the half 24-17. If Shurmer wouldn't have been such a knucklehead, we could have run down the clock and went into the half up either 20-10 or 24-10, depending on how that drive turned out. Instead, we get ourselves behind and he stops going to Trent in the second half. The, later on in the game, it is 3rd-and-6. I look to my buddy and guarantee that they will not throw for the first down. Sure enough, Shurmer calls a pre-determined pass to Watson in the flat and they fail to convert. He has to go. It's not just his system. His calls a bad game using a bad system. On another note, these injuries are exposing a lack of depth on our defense. We need Phil Taylor back for run-stuffing. I know people don't think DT is a 'sexy' position, but it is one of the most important and one of the hardest to play. Winn and Hughes play well in short bursts, but the Giants wore them down as the game went on and were able to double-team Rubin. With Fujita washed up and Gocong done for the year, we can't afford to lose DQ52 for any sustained period of time. The defense collapsed when he went out. Getting Haden back next week will be a god-send, but hopefully he is coming back as Patterson is going out. Finally, I have to think we can find a FS off the street that will do a better job than the ones we have.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Yes, but Cleveland does the decent thing by trying to herd most of them into a confined part of the metro area where the rest of us can't hear their country music, or see their trucks' Yosemite Sam mudflaps, or smell their grits. You know the place I'm talking about....... Akron. Incoming!!! CDM will be the first to point out that is NOT in our metro. Now, I have dealt with my fair share of hillbillies and rednecks. They are a very rare species north of I-80. I am not sure what you would label the species of folks you find west of the Cuyahoga who wear cut off Def Leopard shirts, still rock the mullets, and spit every 15 seconds.... but they are not rednecks or hillbillies. You occassionally see their male counterparts with that style too.

10 unexpectedly romantic U.S. cities Cleveland, Ohio For rock 'n' roll nostalgia and more What can be more romantic than reliving special musical moments together? And where better to do that than at Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum? The Beatles exhibit alone includes some 70 artifacts (stage outfits, hand-written musical arrangements). Also catch the Grateful Dead exhibit (through 2012), and many others, including Jimi Hendrix, U2, and the Doors. On a totally different musical note, catch the Cleveland Orchestra at the handsome Severance Hall. Finish a day of touring at Edgewater State Park, where you can picnic while you watch the sun slip down into Lake Erie. Perhaps enjoy a nightcap at the Velvet Tango Room, a modern-day “speakeasy” in the Tremont neighborhood. Shop for retro fashion, antiques, and bargains in Larchmere. Grab a tasty lunch, including some interesting Japanese fare, at Flying Cranes Café on nearby Shaker Square. Extend your trip a bit by a drive out to Put-in-Bay, on South Bass Island, north of Sandusky. Book rooms at the Vineyard Bed and Breakfast, a century-plus-old farmhouse set among lovely vines, and with its own private beach. http://travel.yahoo.com/ideas/10-unexpectedly-romantic-u-s--cities.html?page=all

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
I would rather wait until a masterpiece can be painted on the blank canvas which is the WHD lots. If City Hall drives the development, it will be underwhelming and won't make best use of the land. The developments would be closer to the idea floated by RTA than the Stark plan

Cleveland: Retail News
I am the first one to point out the realities of post 209. But, for the purposes of THIS discussion, that is exactly what they are.... realities. I don't care if downtown's population doubles to 15,000.... it would not support the level and type of retail you desire. The neighborhoods AROUND downtown need to fill up, particularly the residential desert going out to E 55th. That is what separates a lot of other cities from Cleveland. And, let's not ignore the fact that retail in general is struggling due to several factors, including but not limited to the economy, big-box stores and online shopping.

Cleveland: Retail News
I don't have a thesis and do consider it a success story. I was simply pointing out that our population numbers are inflated by the jail and some forms of public assitance housing. I was assuming that you were referring to the other C's when you said 'the league'..... maybe you should clarify what comparable cities you are referring to. I don't think the population is 'low', but I do feel it is overstated quite often With regard to Toledo, see the reply 203 on this page - http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,25512.180.html
