Cleveland Browns Discussion
Gordon has what is often called "camp legs".... anyone who has ever been through a training camp at any level knows what that is like. His muscles just haven't yet adjusted to the grueling workout, but they will. I don't know what the long term trends are, but that wasn't the case last season with notable starting rookie QBs Cam Newton and Andy Dalton. Rather than them adjustring to the NFL, it seems like the NFL adjusted to them.... especially Cam whose numbers were significantly down over the final 8 games of the season. Another consideration is that none of these rookies has been through a 16 game schedule before and it is more likely that they did not adequately prepare their bodies for the rigors of an NFL season.

Just to be clear from what I heard, he is having a loose and very small peice of cartilege removed. Very minor procedure which will have him out 2-4 weeks, back in time of the opener... maybe sooner. It is the same knee he had cleaned up before the draft but the loose cartilage is not related to that surgery. ^^Starting a lot of rookies in the NFL has traditionally meant an improvement. Probably because there is a very good reason so many rookies are starting - i.e. the team had some major holes to fill. But over the last decade or so, some of the most dramatic improvements in offensive production have been on teams which started 4 or so rookies.

New job at CWRU
I know nothing about Montlack..... but, with the older buildings, I would be more concerned with the units being too hot in the summer as opposed to too cold in the winter. Many, if not most, of the buildings still have boilers/radiators so central air conditioning is not even an option absent a massive investment by the owners to install air ducts. That said, its usually not anything a window ac unit can't alleviate to some degree. Space heaters are also an option for the winter if you are a 'freeze baby'

2012 1st round pick Trent Richardson is on his way to Florida for 'minor surgery' to clean out his knee and will likely miss the preseason 2011 1st round pick Phil Taylor has a torn pectoral and will miss 6-10 games, maybe more 2010 1st round pick Joe Haden looks like he is going to be suspended for the first 4 games for having adderal in his system Sounds like it might be smart to shut down and quarantine Joe Thomas until the opener.

Origin of your Screen Name?
Best FF name of all time (although I have never had the nerve to use it)..... "off in the woods" You win either way each week. Either your team had the higher score.... or the news will be posted that your opponent "[insert team name] beats off in the woods"

Origin of your Screen Name?
I should change mine to THE Heights to distinguish myself and my hometown some more from the imposters ;) But I suppose I couldn't be that cocky when I first signed up. Same as 327, I think I tried to come up with something witty like my fantasy football names of past years - "No Punt Intended" in 2010, "Winning!" last year, and this year I have predetermined my name to be "FoldingLawnChair" because that is exactly what my teams mimic towards the end of the season for whatever reason. In the end I went with Hts44121..... "Hts" of course being an abbreviation for Cleveland Heights where I was born and raised. The 44121 is the zip of the old 'nabe'. It looked a little bulky and since all of the local areas start with "44" anyways, I dropped those and it became "Hts121"..... I'm too far in to change it now and I don't want to deal with the 'uproar' again that ensued in the name change thread with me chopping off the 4's

Yes, I am a lawyer or something. No, I didn't take it personally. Here's to hoping you never need the services of a hypocrite. FWIW, I don't know what Finney is all about, but the point was that a lawyer's personal views or arguments he/she might have made in previous cases involving other clients, should absolutely not be used to the prejudice of his/her current client(s). That is a tactic COAST would use and you are never going to win a fight with an organization like that by stooping to their level.

If he is acting in his professional capacity as a lawyer at that meeting, then he is not speaking as "Chris Finney"...... he is speaking as "Chris Finney, on behalf of [fill in his client]" In that capacity, he is not being a hypocrite. He is doing what he is required by law to do - which is to zealously represent his client. Calling him a hypocrite in this circumstance is really no different than calling a cop who gives you a speeding ticket a "pig".... the only purpose it serves is to make you feel a little better inside

Bump...... either that ^ or we should have threads for Lakewood, Westlake, South Euclid, Shaker Heights, and all of the other 50,000 political subdivisions which surround the City itself

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
It is not simply "one chain restaraunt"..... http://www.moxietherestaurant.com/press/press_esquireredreview.pdf..... it is a nationally renowned steakhouse which has more than one location. I hesitate to call it a chain. Is Melt a chain? Red certainly is not the type of chain Applebee's, Chili's, TGIF, etc. are. It does not even fall into the category of a ACF or PF Chang's.

^That's the best 'source' you have cited so far in this entire 131 page blog! ;) *I take that comment back due to your edit. There's nothing wrong with citing UO as a source. A lot of people come here for information and reference

^Which one? The changes haven't been all that dramatic, but there have been changes over the years. I would, too, keep the same general look, but I would just add the gray to spice things up a bit. It could even be suttle, like through trims, added stripes, or outlines of numbers and names. Or it could have more emphasis, such as gray (alternate) jerseys or pants I think the helmet should stay the same (Orange with brown and white stripes) and I don't like any proposals for logos I have seen. I hate the Elf and the 'Dawg' really is only supposed to symbolize the defense.

New job at CWRU
It is a long commute from Mayfield. Probably not so much on your way in to work given the time of day, but the ride home wouldn't be easy. It's not that far as the crow flies, but either you have to go in a big loop on 271 to 90, or you have to drive all the way down Mayfield Rd or Monticello Blvd. And I suspect that the apartments you are seeing in Mayfield in that price range aren't as nice as they appear in pictures. I agree with the Cedar Fairmount recommendation. Coventry (an adjacent Cleveland Hts. neighborhood) would be an option as well. I would also check out downtown and LIttle Italy, especially if you are only looking to park one car. I am not a big fan of our fantastic west side neighborhoods for people that are new to the City and are going to be working in University Circle. Tons of people commute from the west side to UC each day and the routes of automobile access aren't the easiest.... which means your commute can be either tolerable or an absolute nightmare. The only caveats to that is their is a rail link and our traffic really isn't all that congested on a daily basis..... but that's nothing that a little fender bender on the shoreway can't change in an instant.

If the uniforms are to change, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the inclusion of some gray (darker than the options on that ^ site). I like the way it goes with the brown, orange and white. If done right, I wouldn't be opposed to a large dose of it.

Westlake: Crocker Park
But Weston holds an 'option' to build on a massive piece of property downtown, no? I am as practical as they come when talking what it takes to build a massive mixed use propert, but land availability in downtown is not the issue...... the issue is market demand for such a development downtown. The demand was there in Westlake for CP.... it was there in Lyndhrst/Beachwood for LV...... if and when that demand hits the CBD, then there will be a line pf developers outside City Hall seeking to have their plans approved

I imagine there are some fairly strict height restrictions for that land Some interesting sidenotes to that story, including potential plans for a 53 slip marina at NCH

South Taylor, Cleveland Heights
CH is very gay friendly as a community overall..... it was the first city in the state with a domestic partner registry. However, I dont think it has a lot of nightlife directed specifically towards gays.
-
South Taylor, Cleveland Heights
Can you be more specific on where you will live? The neighborhood overall is safe and generally worry free..... but there are a few streets on the 'sketchier' side which you might want to avoid..... basically, the streets with lots of up-down duplexes. As far as entertainment, Melt is right up the street at Cedar and Taylor. There is also a great strip of pubs and eateries on Lee Rd between Cedar and the library. The other popular areas for nightlife would be the Cedar-Fairmount area and Coventry Rd (between Euclid Hts Blvd and Mayfield.

Possibly moving to Cleveland area and looking for neighborhood advice
Ah.... makes sense. What price range are you working with? Are you looking for a single family home or are you willing to consider a duplex or an apartment? Did you come to this board because you are looking for a more urban/walkable neighborhood or does that not matter so much to you (compared to your stated preferences of good schools and safety)?
-
Possibly moving to Cleveland area and looking for neighborhood advice
Given the proximity requirement to Hopkins, you are really limiting yourself..... especially with finding good walkable neighborhoods (Lakewood being a great option but pretty much your only option as well). If you consider expanding that to a 35 minute drive, then you would have a wider variety of options. If being close to air travel is that important, you may also want to consider placing yourself equidistant from Hopkins and Akron-Canton Airport.... the latter of which I am using more and more lately.

Some rumors out of Philly that Banner and Heckert aren't exactly as close as people assume. Interesting issue is what effect The Big Show being out of the picture might have on the team's relationship with Jim Brown

^Lerner has always given assurances that if he ever did sell the team, it would be on the condition that it wouldn't be moved.
