City Crime Rates 1990-2011
All murders are homicides, but not all homicides are murders. That might explain the difference in figures.

Ways Ohio can become a high growth state.
Unless you are having a natural gas boom, which is Kasich's modus operandi. Depends. If we really have as much as they think we do, it'll cover 2 or 3 generations of people. That should help us get back on our feet, whichever way we end up going. How so? Nat gas is worthless, and the price is showing no signs of making a comeback. Look at the Chesapeake fiasco.. The 'Chesapeake fiasco' has nothing to do with natural gas being 'worthless'

I'll add this point - keep up the rust-belt chic movement. Like it or not, Ohio is not a "cool" place to live according to most outsiders and many natives. And it's not so much the cities as it is how the state itself is view as a hole. Everyone hears it when they say where they are from....... "oh, Ohio?" The coastal snobs view our state probably the same way we view Nebraska. I think it is in the interest of all of the rust belt states to band together in some form or another because we are all hurting in one way or another. Maybe that can happen with the Chicago-hub plan to a certain extent. There's no reason why the north coast can't create a network mimicking the east coast. And FWIW, I would be happy with just steady growth. I think any "high-growth" goals are unrealistic at this point.

I wouldn't say much worse. They certainly beat the hell out of us on sunny days. Also, you are talking about a one-trick pony state. There is no competing MSA, so the growth can be concentrated there. Also, it is much more homogeneous, which sadly helps attract people there.

City Crime Rates 1990-2011
here's my theory: Post Clinton years. Economy was pretty good at that point. Economy and jobs good, crime down? I took that into account. I expected some drop, but the level of Akron's drop is suspect. Just take a look at the numbers. Just a wild guess... but perhaps there were some federal programs which incentivized the City to underreport its numbers?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I don't need to see a preseason game. It is the 5-year tease rule. 2002 they made the playoffs after going 9-7 and capping it off with the "Run, Willie, Run!" game (which I happened to be at). Five years later in 2007 they had probably their best season since returning and several players made the probowl but we lost the tie-breaker with Pittspuke to get into the playoffs (both teams finished atop the division at 10-6...... I believe we went 7-1 at home). So enjoy the 2012 Browns fans while it lasts..... we have 4 years of pain ahead of us after that.

That is a fairly suspicious drop for the Akron MSA around 2000

I heard the tweet discussed over the radio. I wasn't sure when he said "Cleveland is only going downhill" if he was talking about the Browns or the City. Either way, what a knucklehead. I imagine Colt's agent might've shat himself when he got wind of the tweet. They are still doing some damage repair from the thing with his Dad last season. None of this makes Colt very attractive to other organizations. I love how that family tries to come off as good ole boys yet, from what we've seen, are much more prone to be drama queens.- Ways Ohio can become a high growth state.

I'm no expert on the subject, but here's some quick pointers: - Pedestrians have the right of way when walking within a crosswalk. HOWEVER, whether or not in a crosswalk, the driver of any vehicle (including emergency response vehicles) owes a duty of care to not collide with a pedestrian (as if this is necessary for the law to say..... but, then again, we also have a law that clarifies that pedestrians have the ROW on a sidewalk in case anyone was confused on that point). - Also, you are technically obligated to walk on the right half of the crosswalk whenever practical. Yes.... this allows the cops to charge you with j-walking even if you are in the crosswalk. - This is an important one :)...... unless you are legally blind, it is illegal for you to carry a white or metallic cane (with or without a red tip) on any public thoroughfare. I suspect this gets enforced about as much as Ohio's stripper law.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
Best they can probably hope for is a conditional draft pick ranging from 5th to 7th round depending on whether he makes the final 53 man roster and how much he plays.- Cleveland: Demolition Watch
That's not shady. It is common practice. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if that LLC is owned by another LLC which is owned by a limited partnership which is owned by a general partnership which is owned by an LLC and on for a few more 'corporate web' levels beyond that.- Cleveland Browns Discussion

The game was won by Miami's 18-2 start and then the Basketball Gods smiled down on that three-point bank shot from Battier right when OKC had all the momentum. If Battier misses that shot (which he did other than a huge amount of luck), OKC is running the other way down 4 with 4 minutes left.- Cleveland Cavs Discussion

Burnham - let's see your best mock-up of something along the lines of what the traffic study proposes. A closed Ontario, making two quadrants instead of four, and with pavers or something else that "matches" along Superior.- Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I just think that Wedge had a responsility and duty to be the grown up. Yes, he was dealing with an immature kid, but I bet other coaches could have gotten through to him. Wedge was just one of those no nonsense, hardline, wanna-be-tough guys who wasn't the right coach for a guy like Phillips. Obviously, Phillips got his sh!t together and we certainly wouldn't be worse off to still have him. I think if Acta was our coach back then, he could have made something out of Phillips.- Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I admire your enthusiasm Burnham, but I don't think closing Rockwell or E Roadway is even on the table. I have read somewhere the idea of closing Rockwell to the east of E Roadway (which makes sense), but not the portion that actually outlines the square.- Cleveland Cavs Discussion
No. Re-read the posts above. He is a free agent. No need to use a draft pick. This clarification moots the rest of your post, which I mostly disagree with. But, suffice it to say, yes... the Euro "wave" was a little overhyped after Dirk, but you can't disregard the talent over there (go back again and look at my parameters for a "Euro player"..... Ginobili played in Europe, albeit he is originally from Argentina.... same for Scola). Sure you can find 3 players who fizzled for every 1 that made an impact. You can do the same with American players who were drafted. In fact, maybe only about half (or less) of lottery picks ever live up to the hype. Vessley and Kanter, btw, were both viewed as projects and both played in the NBA last year. Vessley was starting for Washington by the end of the year. Kanter was a rotational player all year, with Utah either giving him or Derrick Favors (a much hyped American player taken #3 in the draft 2 years ago) the bulk of the minutes as the first big man off the bench behind Al Jefferson and Paul Milsap.- NBA: General News & Discussion
Both were out of line. But I sympathize with Stern more. There were so many more respectful ways Rome could've asked the question if it had to be asked. I did get a chuckle out of Stern's "do you still beat your wife" retort. Of course nobody would answer "yes", but if you answer "no" wouldn't that mean that you once did? Perfect trap question to put someone on the spot :)- Cleveland skyline. Post your pictures!
