  1. Is the funding in place for all of this? The City keeps spending money on studies..... is there any timetable?
  2. I can tell you are determined to believe that I have a political undertone to my comments. I guess there is not much more I can say except this is not true. The only 'political' opinion I have presented in this thread is that I believe both parties are bought and do whatever wall street/banks/FED want them to do. I also believe you absolutely can have and economic discussion without bring politics into the conversation. I find your last two sentences contradictory. You're an admitted conspiracy theorist. That's your political undertone and the more extreme points you choose to emphasize along that line of thought (through personal opinion or continual references to patently bias sources like zerohedge) is where I usually step in to comment. We can challenge each other without the personal attacks you want to continually lobby to try and undermine my points in lieu of substantive debate.

Yes. He went undrafted in 2007, so he is free to sign with whomever. 26 years old, I believe. Kind of a late bloomer. Led the Euroleague in scoring last season and hit 43% of his 3-pointers. Knock on him is he may not be quick enough to guard the 3 and is not a great rebounder for the 4. I would envision him as a stretch-4 in the NBA, and I'm sure the Cavs are trying to sell him on being the replacement for Jamison. In other news, David Lighty (formerly of VASJ and OSU) had a tryout with the Cavs. I could see Scott really liking Lighty and his hard nosed style of play, especially on the defensive end.

Of the top of my head.... Dirk Nowitzki Peja Stojakovich Drazen Petrovich Luis Scola Manu Ginobili Tony Parker Mikeal Petrius Detlef Schrempf Vlade Divac Rik Smits Rony Seikaly Hedo Turkoglu Big Z Toni Kukoc Pau Gasol Marc Gasol Mehmet Okur Andres Nocioni Tiago Splitter Andy Varejao EDIT: I almost forgot the guy who might be the hottest commodity on the FA market this summer - Ersan Ilyasova (Keeping in mind that I am thinking of "Euro" player generically as any international player who played in the Euroleague or was born and raised in Europe) Not sure who you mean by the 2 players the Cavs dodged. I assume one of those is Jonas V. who was drafted #5 by the Raptors. The reason you didn't hear about him is the same reason the Cavs didn't draft him. He has some buyout issues in Europe and couldn't play in the NBA this past season...... although he did dominate the under-19 USA team in international play last summer after the draft. He might be over this year.
  5. Bosh would never have a PER of 25 on a team with Westbrook and Durant so it is not a fair comparison. Fact is, they are just totally different players. It's like asking would you rather have John Stockton or Allen Iverson. They impact their teams in totally different ways. I have never been a big fan of Bosh, and that goes back to well before he joined Miami. I wouldn't want a PF like him just like I wouldn't want a PG like Allen Iverson.
  6. What's amazing is the amount of talent we got out of the Bartolo Colon deal way back when..... and the fact that the only piece from that trade we have left is perpetually on the DL. I will never forgive Eric Wedge for his inability to coach up Phillips.

Potential impactful Euro signing - http://www.noticiasdealava.com/2012/06/14/baskonia/teletovic-jugara-en-los-brooklyn-nets-o-cavaliers - just take my word for it that the article says that he has trimmed his list down to two teams - the Cavs and the Nets. Some video
  8. Some more coverage - http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/06/cleveland_traffic_study_sugges.html I found this bit encouraging... Ken Silliman, chief of staff for Jackson, said in an interview Wednesday that the mayor is eager for further data analysis and to learn if limiting Superior's traffic to transit lines is a possibility. And loved reading this... Silliman said the mayor is satisfied with the study's results, provided that Superior be redesigned to look like a plaza that blends with the rest of the square's streetscape when it is closed to traffic for special events.
  9. I will say, I think you would do better with a blog. That way you wouldn't have to spend so much effort deflecting any challenge to your narrative. Btw, it is impossible to discuss the US Economy without bringing in the politics of it. You certainly do it all the time, whether you realize it or not.
  10. Let's put it this way..... if I was building a team to win a championship and you forced me to decide between the two as my PF, Bosh would hardly be a lock. It would depend on the makeup of the rest of my team. On the current Heat, I would swap Bosh for Ibaka every day of the week and twice on Sunday. He is exactly what Miami needs and is missing. He would be their Ben Wallace. If you asked me which one would help the current Cavs more, I would say Bosh.
  11. Did they drop if you eliminate the sales drop assigned only to gasoline? I honestly don't know. But if you believe Fox News and the Commerce Department, it seems like the drop in gas sales pulled down the overall sales by 0.2 in both May and April. Since April has now been revised down to a 0.2 drop overall, it seems like a wash, no? You're the expert. Best thing for all of the "handbasket" folks is that it is a win-win scenario. If gas prices fall, then the ride gets quicker because retail sales will fall and that will be a lead indicator we are on our way to hell. On the other hand, if gas prices rise, then those increases will be a burden on the economy and, again, we are on our way down. Gramarye and Hoot - agreed totally. But we all know we can't pass up a good opportunity to panic.
  12. Ibaka's block numbers don't account for the amount of shots he redirects. He is a stud defensive player and would be a top 10 pick if his draft was redone.
  13. I was just messing with you. Funny thing is that you were the first one to bite. My fault. Seems to be a developing theme for you Shy Torys..... errrrr, I mean "independents"..... around here.
  14. Should be interesting to see which of your friends and co-workers are a wee-bit more irritable next week...
  15. ^I think you might have been the only one who paid any attention to her party affiliation
  16. Maybe you should check the details a little more. Plus, retail sales went negative in April when gas prices were still high. Something more than gas prices are impacting spending. Carry on. Touchy. I wasn't tyring to mess with your narrative...... I was simply saying that the headline was misleading, which it is. Although I'm sure the drop in gas prices was manipulated by TPTB to kick the can down the road yet again, even Fox News reported on it.... A sharp drop in gas prices pulled down overall sales in both months by 0.2 percent, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. ........................ Cheaper gas also lowered a measure of wholesale prices by the most in nearly three years. ......................... The decline at the pump could bode well for consumers in the coming months, too. The average national price for a gallon of gas was $3.54 Wednesday — 40 cents cheaper than the year's peak price in early April. And while overall retail sales barely budged in May, Americans did spend more on big purchases. Auto sales rose sharply, and sales of furniture and appliances also increased. That suggests consumers may already be seeing some benefit from lower gas prices. "The continued fall in gasoline prices should support consumption by freeing up cash to be spent on other items," said Paul Dales, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics. "So although real consumption growth looks set to slow in (the second quarter), we doubt it will grind to a complete halt." http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/06/13/us-retail-sales-dropped-02-percent-in-may/
  17. ^Headline is a bit misleading. Sales fell as gas "prices" tumbled..... which most people would see as a good thing for the economy. The headline makes it seem like the drop was due to people buying less gas. Sorry for the interruption. Carry on.
  18. If not that space, what are they working on? Storing tools for what?
  19. Kind of hard to believe that we are talking 'organized crime' in this thread and focusing on internet sweepstakes cafes and not the 70+ arrests that were made yesterday breaking up a massive criminal ring
  20. Question...... when I drive to LI, I usually park in the large surface lot across from TB park. I went last week (Wednesday night) and bought a ticket from the machine to put on my dash. I saw other people not doing the same. When do you have to pay? And when is parking there prohibited? The signs are kind of confusing...... they seem to suggest that only UH employees can park there before 4:30pm on weekdays and that the public can only use that lot when an actual attendant is on duty, which makes no sense because why else would they have a machine where you can buy tickets?
  21. I wish Sunny understood that the money can either (a) have an impactful effect on dowtown development which will hopefully cause a domino effect spreading towards the suburbs, or (b) be spread so thin among the many communities that each whale essentially gets one tic-tac for its bad breath
  22. FWIW, James Michael Johnson ("JMJ" to his teammates) has supposedely shown well at both inside and outside LB. Maiava is also back completely healthy and I consider him to be vastly underrated as a utility LB. I don't think we have a great, or even very good WR corps, but I just can't cast judgment on them based on last year. There were so many factors. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I really think we are going to see a drastic improvement this year. Drastic. I expect Little to flirt with 1,000. I expect MoMass to show he can play in this league. I expect Cribbs to be a legitimate deep threat teams are going to have to account for. And I expect one player to step up (maybe Cooper?) and have a surprise year. Weeden and Richardson are going to really open things up for them.

Let's stay on topic, please ;)
  24. That was fun. Although, you might want to add labels. I had to think about a few of them to know what I was looking at.

^I was surprised that no one had mentioned shopping as a current "pro" for the suburbs. Hopefully that will change soon.
