  1. ^social conservatives, not fiscal conservatives, are the antithesis of progressive thinkers.
  2. Disagree on the closer down the better comment. Football is best watched not from field level but rather slightly above. That is the angle both the offensive coordinator and TV crews view it from. That is how you view it on your TV at home. IMO, nothing beats 2nd (not top) tier front row. That would apply to cavs games as well
  3. In a 4-3 defense, the DTs can have various roles and duties. Job #1 is protecting your gap. In a 3-4 you have an area... in a 4-3, you have a gap. More than anything, you can't get pushed off the ball. When a DT is being pushed 5 yds off the line, that is bad news for your defense. You have to hold the line. In a stalemate during a running play, the victory goes to the DT because that means the OL was not able to move him to create a hole. DL coaches will sometimes tell their tackles to fall if they feel they will be moved, so at least a pile is created. In a pass play, the opposite applies and the OL would love to stalemate his counterpart or lay on top of him. If you know the play will be a pass, you tell your DT to white his knuckles and put his ears back because gap responsibility is out the window. You want to collapse the pocket. DT is one of the harder positions to play because it is all based on feel. You really can't go with what your eyes tell you because in the scrum, they won't tell you much. You have to feel that massive 300+ pounder pushing on you and go the opposite direction of where he wants to take you. Instincts and quick reflexes are a must. With regard to the fatigue, that is most likely the result of the? Being left on the field. When the regular season starts, we will have a 3 or 4 man rotation at DT.
  4. Let's not forget that this is parking FOR the casino. Of course it is designed to shuttle people comfortably into the casino. "Right this way, sir"..... "look at our flashing lights and fancy decor". That is kind of the point. The fact that there is a welcome center BEFORE they even hit the casino could be viewed as a positive. relatively speaking. Let's say Suzie and Jimbo Exurb arrive at the casino and decide they want to grab a drink to loosen up or maybe a quick bite. They don't have any idea where to go. In that case, maybe the Welcome Center's design can be helpful. Shuttle them right out on prospect and the ones that survive the death gauntlet of vehicular traffic pouring out of the matchbox set at blinding speeds will probably be inclined to take Euclid on their way back to the casino.
  5. So they do give you the option to walk outside? I figured your statement on that point might have been a little exaggerated. FWIW, the renderings I have seen have a door caddy-cornered right under the skywalk, as well (which might have been the door you were referring to). I have to imagine that the Welcome Center will have some route by which you can access those doors if you prefer crossing Ontario to taking the skywalk. They can't be just for show. And I can nearly guarantee you there will be more than one exit and that won't be up to the developers to decide.
  6. Like I said and as is often the suggestion from the TPTB around here for projects that have not already recieved the board's consesus opinion death sentence where the developers can do no right short of raining gold from the sky, let's wait for details. If what you assume is the case, I definitely will have an issue with it. But I highly doubt that the only exit from where you park and/or drop off your car will be the gerbil tube. Lots of reasons why that wouldn't be the case. Fire code, for one.
  7. KJP - yes, lots of little projects. Here is the latest on Bluestone..... Rysar can't build the townhomes fast enough. The three currently under construction are already sold and a few more in the next phase have already been scooped up. When completed, there will be 16 total and the units will wrap around to Mayfield where the sales center is now. BTW, lakeviews from the rooftop decks has been confirmed (there was some concern about the treeline blocking the view) Smith - there is PLENTY of parking at cedar-taylor.... accross the street in UH ;)
  8. Let's wait for the specifics before labeling it as simply a "parking garage". It will certainly be more than that and there certainly will be more people and activity on the corner of Prospect and Ontario compared with what the status quo was at the time of demolition. I too definitely wish the Columbia was saved, but I won't let my dislike for that decision preclude me from thinking rationally about this development. There was no street level activity at that point of the intersection. It was occupied by two abandoned buildings and an out of place two floor office building which housed two of the most despicable divorce attorneys this town has ever seen. To the point that this will immediately inject some life there, I get what the above poster was saying
  9. I thought we already had one of these threads, but all I could find is the thread specific to Oakwood. Anyways, probably not a bad idea to start one with this nice little piece of news. New Cedar Lee Streetscape in the Works As we all know, the Cedar Lee business district is a popular destination for those seeking unique culinary treats, independent films, outdoor entertainment in the summer, art gallery treasures and many other attractions. Over the years, however, any business district will begin to show its age, thereby losing contact with the people who enrich and enliven the area. That is why plans are in place to revitalize the strip of Lee Road between Cain Park and the main branch of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library. This mile-long Cedar Lee Streetscape project is being developed by the Cedar Lee Special Improvement District (SID) in cooperation with the City of Cleveland Heights and the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). .................................... Eventual changes to the area involve many more trees planted along the streets, mini-parks including a kiddie park, artistic lighting, more outdoor dining, enhanced areas for bench seating, and crosswalk improvements with special decorative paving treatments inside the intersections. http://clevelandheights.patch.com/articles/new-cedar-lee-streetscape-in-the-works Of course, Scene Mag couldn't help itself.... Cleveland Heights has plans to spruce up the Cedar Lee neighborhood and is now looking for the money to do so. No truth to rumors plan simply is to ask all young black males to kindly not go there anymore http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2011/08/19/afternoon-brew-cedar-lee-makeover-weed-in-jolly-ranchers-dog-thefts-up-and-chris-perez-on-twitter
  10. I don't think the requirement was specifically for a skywalk, but rather just a certain number of connected parking spaces. An underground connection was explored but ruled out for reasons I don't recall. The design of the connection was left up to the developers.
  11. I will say this about the performance of our DTs on Friday.... DQ Jackson sure seemed to have plenty of room to run around and make plays. Another plus is that it seems they will not be rotating sides. Jauron stated that he would prefer to have a left DT and a right DT as opposed to a designated 1 technique and a designated 3 technique, but he wasn't sure that both Taylor and Rubin would have the necessary versatility. Seems like he saw what he wanted to see in practice
  12. I will take that bet heat. He did a decent job against the Lions. He may not end up being All-Pro, but he won't be a bust. I think you are letting your personal feelings about the Browns' decision to trade down in the draft cloud your judgment on Taylor. Plus, he has a LOT more money to make if he is successful. What he got as a late 1st round pick is nothing compared to what he can earn if he proves to be a serviceable DT in the NFL.
  13. Well they were making the aqrgument for near and adequate parking. There was never really a confirmation of what the language actually was, nor did anybody with the city actually request this for confirmation or the details of this (which I think even you were saying the city should have required, before bending over). Also, in the amendment, the casino site for Cleveland was specified very broadly so that these options were open. I think I recommended a few pages back that those who are so fervently interested in these details should submit a public records request to the City. Specifically, address it to Kim Roberson, the City's public information officer. That is the only way to confirm what the City actually considered.
  14. I don't believe the Browns ever gave any indication of a willingness to invest. I thought they were simply assuming a leadership role and sought to attract outside investors.
  15. ^That kind of pragmatism will not be well recieved ;) ^^You are probably better off not reading any part of someone's post if you don't want to read the whole thing. Sometimes initial sentences can be put into perspective as the post continues and your panties wouldn't wind up in such a bunch. You simply can't fill your posts with such baseless accusations and unfounded assumptions and not expect someone to set the record straight for the thousands of people that read these boards. I'll stand by my east of 118th comment. There are a lot of areas for the progress of UC to expand and that isn't one of them IMO. It will only happen if all other directions are already gentrified. So, yes, 20 years and that is VERY optimistic short of 327 winning he superlotto or inventing the next google brand so that we have a developer who is willing to sink billions upon billions of funding which every financial institution will refuse to secure into a mass revitilization effort that would basically have to tear down nearly everything in the area and start from scratch. ^^^Who owns that lot on Stokes/108th. I agree it would have been a better spot if all things were equal. I also wonder if access to existing utilities, such as the ones that were revamped during the EC project had anything to do with the decision.
  16. ^Too bad you only read and quoted half my post. I would probably be against the power plant in this location if I had the faintest hope for any significant progress east of E118th and north of Euclid in that area. I think Coltman and Circle 118 are about as far out on the frontier as we are going to see for a good bit. 20 years optimistically?
  17. ^Yes. It will. ^^I believe I got that information from the PD or other articles, but such a requirement would hardly be surprising. I doubt there is a requirement specifically for a skywalk, but the inclusion of connected and covered parking is almost certainly somewhere in the financing agreement.
  18. 1) Per my understanding, the gerbil tube (or some other indoor walkway) was REQUIRED for the financing of this project to be approved. Don't jump down my throat, as I DON'T like it, but if that is truly the case, then this should not all be blamed on Gilbert. 2) Phase II WILL be built. They will not wait to gauge the success of phase I to begin with that. It is a go. I get that from the best source on the subject I have and he is one of TPTB in the process. 3) Moving the river was thrown out there as an idea, but never seriously considered. And it would not have been up to the City for approval. Same source.
  19. You 'fight to preserve vacant lots' around here all the time. Kind of your MO, my man. You may try to spin around it, but that would undeniably be the result of your long advocated zoning restrictions to nothing but 100 story mixed use residential buildings with Fortune 500 companies occupying the top floors. Regardless, while I didn't agree with his tactics, Johnson was not trying to 'preserve a vacant lot' in the fiasco earlier this year. He was going for something different than what was planned and that decision was disagreeable, but he had no desire to 'preserve a vacant lot.' That is about as accurate as my description of your zoning requirements, but exaggeratons are fun.

Not true at all. Why is it not the Governor and GOP reps chance to put politics aside? That is what got the first bill passed, so putting politics aside should lead to the conclusion that the bill must be repealed before negotiations can start. Otherwise, there is no baseline that they can start with. Further, you can count on the fact that if this gets wiped out during the election by a vote of the people, any effort to simply duplicate the bill will be met with even more fervent backlash. That is the whole purpose of a referendum.... to tell the GA that the electorate does not agree with what it has done. That said, your take is exactly what I was saying uptread is what Kasich is gunning for here with his rather empty invitation... particularly the "this was the union's chance to put politics aide and achieve some meaningful reforms." In fact, you might want to submit that line to BBO for one of their ads. "BBO"...... I just realized that acronym :D
  21. Historic former department store abou to become former historic department store
  22. At the risk of going way off topic, would you mind indulging me? I ain't one to gossip, so you didn't hear this from me... http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=braylon+edwards+gay+rumors But just so the record is clear, I don't believe it to be true.... but I do get a kick out of how much I know it gets under his skin. When he was with the Browns, and assuming the rumors were true, I was all for him officially coming out of the closet. Would have been interesting to see how loose the coverage was in subsequent games.
  23. Big win for Joe C. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/08/state_denies_liquor_license_to.html State denies liquor license to crime-ridden Club Allure; appeal is likely CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The state's Division of Liquor Control will not renew the liquor license for Club Allure, a nightclub off Public Square where three men were shot June 3 following an argument. In a letter dated Aug. 15, state liquor officials told club owner Luciana Gilmore that renewing the license would create substantial interference with public decency, peace, sobriety and good order in the neighborhood and the club has operated in a way that demonstrates a disregard of the laws. Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman has been actively seeking to have Club Allure's liquor license revoked following the June 3 shooting, the latest of numerous problems that brought police to the nightclub.
  24. I'll take your word for it. Good thing they don't have 'brain control' http://www.conservapedia.com/Mainstream_media The mainstream media (MSM), also known, in a failed attempt at humor, by many of its very large number of vocal critics as the lamestream media, are the increasingly liberal media organs that that control our minds and censor the dissemination of news.
