^I suspect that gap will close a bit, but that is a lot to make up between now and November. I would suggest that the GA start working on a new bill which can properly be viewed as reasonable reform and not political retribution. Sit down at the table with all sides. Get something passed that people can support.
  2. Litt has some good coverage of this - http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2011/07/port_of_cleveland_plan_led_by.html I wonder (fingers crossed) if the stabilization of the bend might be easier (and less expensive) if Riverview Terrace were to be demolished.
  3. Technicality, but the admininstration building is directly to the north of the MM. Instead of a hotel, I think that lot is prime for an expansion of the MM if it is as successful as we all hope it will be. There are plenty of other lots for a convention sized hotel if one is needed at a future date..... and it would probably be better IMO to place that hotel in a more central area anyways, such as a WHD parking lot.
  4. That strip on the northwest corner of Waterloo and 156th has had a sign for some time about some redevelopment. I assumed it was a victim of the recession. Any updates on that?
  5. Residents and $$ (think Oakwood, Orange, Beachwood, Bentleyville, Gates Mills, Hunting Valley, Pepper Pike and other surrounding, very affluent communities). Retailers are in the business of turning a profit. As UC's residential population grows (which it is), its retail options will grow.
  6. "You can't fight God and prevail," Sadler said. "He's not fighting me. He's not fighting the church. He's fighting God." Game. Set. Match.
  7. It adds an element to any college campus, urban or not, which CSU was lacking. JMO. I am not talking about rolling meadows, but a halfway decent quad is not too much to ask.
  8. Is the 70,000 sf for just phase 1 or is that for both phases? If just for phase 1, how big will phase 2 be?

After 30+ years, my dad still feels the need to identify himself to me everytime he calls me on the phone..... "hey, it's Dad"..... every frickin time..... yeah, I think I have your voice memorized by now not to mention there was this neat little invention about a decade or so ago calle caller-ID.
  10. Good stuff. I had my dad and stepmom in from Charlotte a few weeks back and we did a night out in Little Italy. It was especially vibrant that night with a nice sized crowd, full patios, street performers, and all. My stepmom, who usually is a bit of a Cleveland downer if for no other reason that to justify making my dad move to where she lived as opposed to her moving here when they got married, was somewhat speechless. She was more complimentary about Cleveland that night than I have ever heard her. But my favorite part came when I overheard her talking to my dad about some 'new' neighborhood in Charlotte (can't remember which one) and she said 'doesn't this kind of remind you of ______'. My Dad responded by saying something along the lines of 'not really.... ________ is trying to be vintage..... this is vintage.'

I have heard Kasich being interviewed a few times since being elected Governor and I have always liked what he has said with regard to Lake Erie being an underutilized asset.
  12. CSU desperately needed more greenspace. I like what they have done in terms of transforming their campus. And it appears much more is to come.
  13. We need a Free Safety. Our depth at all the DL positins is also highly suspect. I don't think you can judge the WR corp until we see them for a year in an NFL offensive system.
  14. ^All that sounds very reasonable to me. If it makes sense, they should try and incorporate the facade or save it somehow. But if it would limit the development and cause material alterations to what they determine to be the ideal plan for the site, then take it down.
  15. Or just incorporate it into the new build like Motorcars did with the CH City Hall facade on Mayfield

Personally, I think some place is going to overextend for Sears (my guess is Illinois). I don't have much faith in the long term viability of the company, at least in it current capacity and form. This is akin to courting Blockbuster. I don't think the juice will be worth the squeeze

^I don't think that any of those vacancies would meet Sears' space needs. Regardless, I think it is fairly clear that Sears is not looking for a downtown highrise, new or old. It will end up in a suburban campus. I also think this is merely a game on Sears' part to get the best deal possible to stay home.
  18. We need infill more than we need more height.

Somebody slap me, but it seems now that his shock and awe entrance strategy is starting to come to a close I'm actually starting to like this guy..... a little bit Gov. John Kasich vetoes controversial Lake Erie bill, pledges to work with legislature for new law COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. John Kasich, in an uncharacteristic break from his fellow Republicans that left some disappointed and angry, vetoed a controversial bill on Friday to regulate water withdrawals from Lake Erie. The veto followed intense pressure from environmental groups, two former Republican governors and several other officials to reject the bill, which would have allowed businesses to siphon millions of gallons of water from Lake Erie without permits. "Lake Erie is an incredible resource that demands our vigilant stewardship to maximize its environmental, recreational and commercial potential for Ohioans," Kasich said in a statement. "Ohio's legislation lacks clear standards for conservation and withdrawals and does not allow for sufficient evaluation and monitoring of withdrawals or usage." http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/07/post_28.html
  20. Yeah. I shouldn't have said 'redesign' because I wasn't really talking about the plans, but rather the actual redesign/construction. The shootings did at least appear to kick-start a long stalled project. It seemed to light a fire over there at 601 Lakeside.
  21. I suppose we have to first list all the WalMart's in Cuyahoga County. 1. Steelyard 2. Severance 3. Mayfield Hts 4. Bedford 5. Brook Park Rd. 6. Parma 7. Strongsville 8. North Royalton First off... that's DEPRESSING to look at. Even moreso, I may be missing a few. Out of those, my best guess would be Mayfield Heights, but that is totally a guess. All of these Walmarts started popping up when I was living down south. EDIT: I seem to remember reading that Steelyard was the first "Supercenter" in cuyahoga county.
  22. I'm certainly no fan of media sensationalism, but considering that the shootings were a major driving force for the redesign of the park, I think it fits within the story. Keep in mind that not everyone (in fact, most people) don't follow the status of these developments the way we do. For many reading that article, it might be the first they have even heard of the project.

Whatever happened to the days of stunt doubles who looked nothing like the character they are standing in for?..... like the scene in Beverly Hills Cop when Axel Foley throws Victor Maitlin's bodyguard into the buffet, the stunt double for Eddie Murphy looked like Richard Pryor on steriod, but nothing like Murphy.

Cocktails!!.... Tom Cruise's hair goes from long to short to long quite blatantly in a few scenes.
  25. Here's a good source - http://www.noaca.org/uptowntlci.pdf IIRC, there has been talk of a CIA dormitory, possibly a supermarket, and other mixed uses. But I believe the largest component is envisioned to be a large parking deck (with ground floor activity) to meet parking needs and to buffer the district from RR noise.
