Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The three notations of interest in that trade (Gasol-Minny, Cavs-#2, and AV/Sessions-LAL) have all been reported elsewhere, but tying the three together at this point is pure speculation.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Washington really wants Kanter and they own the #6 and #18 picks. The Cavs will be wise to let their 'love' for Kanter be known between now and the draft. I would take those two picks for the #4 in a heartbeat. Another crazy scenario being tossed about (but likely not truth to it) is the seeds of a three-team Cle-LAL-Minny trade. Cavs obviously want the #2. Minny wants a veteran and is said to be interested in Pau Gasol (which would make some sense given the Rubio-Spain connection and their need for a 7 footer to put alongside K Love). LAL wants AV and Sessions to play in Brown's system. I suspect LAL would also demand the #4 which would likely be a deal breaker for us as AV, Sessions and the #4 is too much to give up to move up 2 spots in the draft.

Moving to Cleveland- need apartment/neighborhood advice!
South of Mayfield or on Mayfield. As far as safety, I would say you would 'feel' the safest in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood (just southwest of Coventry), then Little Italy, then Coventry. None are 'unsafe', so you can't really go wrong. Cedar-Fairmount, to me, is just a better fit for a grad student. Coventry has a bit of a younger (HS and undergrad) feel.

Ohio: State Budget News and Discussion
I read the article and I still don't understand the rationale for this law. Also, it is disappointing that Kasich would sign the Bill and not even realize this Amendment was in there.

Yeah, that's it.... not exactly how I remembered it, but it has been a long time.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
The billboard I remember was facing east, so the WB traffic out of downtown and to the airport would drive by it. It was basically a picture of a wall with a doorway opening. The jewish boy had his back up against the wall and he was obviously hiding from and scared of what was around the corner..... which was a Nazi, armed with a machine gun, on the other side of the doorway. I fogot what exactly it said, but I seem to remember the message being what I posted above. I spent about 10 minutes on google and couldn't find an image. Anyone?

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Also keep in mind that the more homogeneous a given state is, the more likely its residents will be able to agree on "freedoms"

Suggestions for a night out in Cleveland's Little Italy?
So.... are those street performers a regular thing? I had never seen them before.

Cleveland: MOCA
As I unerstand it, MOCA doesn't have much of a permanent collection. It is used more for traveling shows and temporary exhibitions. The structure is being built to adequately handle the demand, I'm sure.

The Dating Thread
Keep in mind that some guys will falsely claim to be virgins because they think it will help them get laid.. Girls do this too, but usually for different reasons. Not saying this is the case with your guy, but you have to admit you're intrigued ;)

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
What I will always remember about that building was that giant sign/billboard which hung on the northeastern side, which had the picture of the young jewish boy hiding from the nazis. IIRC, it was done by a jewish guy who wanted to persuade jews to move to Israel and was using fear tactics some would say. Very controversial.

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Right. But no moreso than the law restricting me from taking a crap on the sidewalk and any argument which claims that law does not restrict my 'freedom'. Analogizing it to the gay marriage ban, jokingly or not, is a offensive to common sense.

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Likewise, thanks to the gay marriage ban, I have the "freedom" to enjoy my heterosexual relationships without __________. (Fill in the blank) That sets the bar pretty high as far as bad analogies. I don't think I can beat that. I suppose it does make sense to those that argued a vote in favor of gay marriage = a vote against the freedom to have a heterosexual relationship.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I think CWRU's interest in making this kind of investment is a strong indication that something big could be within sight with all that land west of E 105. As does its purchase of the Temple, come to think about it.

Suggestions for a night out in Cleveland's Little Italy?
Had a great time Friday down in LI. Etna is a great restaurant. I love how the chef always makes rounds (at least he did the two times that I have ate there). Table of 7 1/2 can still be very comfortable in that little space. When we went to Presti's, there were two girls out on the street in that area singing songs from la boheme for tips. Very well trained, I might add. Is that a regular thing? It added nicely to the feel. We took the kids over to the playground afterwards. That whole public space should be used as a model to attract families to the City. I also walked by Washington Place and Club Isabella, both of which seemed to be doing very well. LI is on fire right now. I love how it is able to maintain such a perfect balance of vibrant and relaxed.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Rebounding and defense are his strengths from what I have read. He had one of the best rebound rates in Europe and his shot blocking is NBA ready. And like most Lithuanians (think Z), he doesn't back down. His criticisms is that he still needs to mature physically (he is 19), but he is hardly a beanpole as someone said upthread. He is a legit 7 foot without shoes and weighed in at 245. He has a good frame. Add some NBA muscle and he will look the part. In response to the Leonard inquiry, I like the kid, but those freakishly big hands actually scare me. At some point, hands become TOO big and it affects the ability to shoot a jump shot. This guy is 6'8 or 6'9 but has the hands of someone well over 7 foot. I see his ceiling as Gerald Wallace, whom I love, but I am aiming higher with #4. Pick up another late lotto pick or trade down and he is certaintly in the conversation.

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Thanks to the smoking ban, I have the 'freedom' to choose to enjoy my dinner and/or drinks on a multitude of new, very nice patios which restaurants and bars have been wise to construct since the ban went into effect. My wool garments also feel a bit more 'free' since the smoking ban started.

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Or.... you could say that Indiana gained 400,000 over 10 years and Ohio gained 200,000: it sounds sexier the way you said it, but the fact remains that neither state grew by leaps and bounds. I would also guess that the parts of Indiana which have comparable weather to NEO, such as South Bend and Gary, were not hotbeds of growth. Are you really tryying to say that the smoking ban is a bigger factor than the weather for our population trends?

Irving and trade down to take M Brooks or Klay Thompson. Sticking at 4, id take Big V.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
For every Dirk, there are 25 Stromile Swift's too. I will give you that the Euroleague game doesn't always translate, but watch that kid's film. He is one of those guys that will probably be better suited for the NBA. The fact that he is young and a legit 7 foot makes him hard to pass on. You don't get the chance to snatch up a true center too often. I don't want to think that Ryan Hollins is the future of this franchise at the 5.

Ohio one of the "least free" states?
Not necessarily. You can't predict the future. 50 years ago, the southeast was an undesirable swamp. The armpit of America. One big factor for its transformation into the 'new south' is that air conditioning hit the mainstream. It made living there year round much more hospitable. Anyone who was ever as dumb as me to sign a one year lease in the south on a house without central air knows what I am talking about. Point being, is it not out of the realm of possibility that technology in the future makes living in a cold weather climate more tolerable? We can't control the weather (and shouldn't) but we can control the effects it has on us. We are going to see some amazing inventions in our lifetime. But I do think it is hard to argue that the weather is not the #1 undesirable aspect you hear about our region. Out of the people I know who live here but want to move, 7 or 8 of10 would say it is because of the weather. Given, the great majority of those people will never move but will b!tch about it forever. Most people I know who would never even consider moving here would say it is because of the weather. It automatically eliminates us because warmer climates are what most people want at present. Keep in mind that this is also probably the #1 factor for Chicago and Boston, perhaps NYC to a lesser extent. As for the loss of manufacturing, we simply need to retool and reload. Something along the lines of what we are doing.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I like Knight a lot, but I think he is out of the conversation because we are going to take Irving. There really isn't much legitimate doubt about that, despite the arguments you can make that it would make sense to take Williams #1 and Knight or Walker at #4. Similarly, the thought that Williams might fall to #4, although not TOTALLY out of the question, is also probably not realistic. So.... sticking with what is really viable talk, and assuming that the first three picks goes Irving, Williams, Knight, you're essentially left with the two JV's, Kanter, and Leonard from SDSU as picks you can pass off as having value at #4. I honestly like Marshon Brooks better than any of those guys, but you can trade down 5-10 spots and still get him. BTW, that video I posted IS the highlight from when Kanter and Sully went head-to-head. They dominated EACH OTHER on the offensive end. I think Sully had 22 pts that game. They actually play a lot alike, but Kanter is probably an inch or two taller and Sully is a little more mobile. Also, I never said that Kanter can't jump. He is not a high flyer, but he can dunk. He just doesn't seem like he has that necessary nasty streak around the rim.
