  1. Form a chain gang around the building. Get Code Pink on them M'fers
  2. Careful what you wish for with the ABC campaign, folks. You are never going to agree with your council rep on every single issue. Joe C is a good man. He has done a lot of good for Cleveland and downtown. The DP registry would not have passed without his efforts. My only concern is that he has bigger aspirations..... but what politician doesn't. I would say the same thing about the ABJ campaign. Just be careful what you wish for. There has been progress under Jackson despite very difficult times. And this is coming from someone who has had some rather heated discussions with the mayor and his administration.
  3. What I always appreciated about Windhorst was his conservative and diligent approach to the rumor mill. When he or A. Woj. from Yahoo report a trade rumor,x you know it has legs. As far as sports writers in this town, I enjoy Pluto"s stuff bit that is about it. I guess Mary Kate does a good job with the Browns, but I ?ay be bias because I think she is hot. Women who can talk Browns all day appleal to me :)
  4. I disagree. The guy knows his basketball and his journalistic integrity is above most in NBA media circles. He doesn't have the looks or personality for TV, but is great on paper or the radio...... when talking about basketball
  5. Windy's career hinges on his relationship with the James camp. Sad... because he is a talented beat reporter. But he has to put out pieces like this every now and then to maintain that relationship. I'm sure the offer from ESPN to be 'the man' covering the biggest basketball story in decades, perhaps ever, had nothing to do with you leaving, Brian. Using your situation is an awful example of the point you are trying to make. It is about as relevant as why Halle Berry left.
  6. No moreso than making people cross Ontario.... which is, I believe, what most here would prefer to the gerbel tube. Just saying that we can't have it both ways. Yes, it is moreso. Now, people who want to walk along the street will have to cross BOTH Ontario AND many lanes of parking garage driveway traffic, which IMO is more dangerous than crossing a street (since there are no traffic lights and walk signs, just impatient drivers that want to get in or out of their parking lot). You would prefer a traffic light for the exit? No way. And the comparison I was making was the current plan with the gerbil tube and the current plan without the gerbil tube. If your concern is pedestrians (gasp) dealing with some traffic, you should not be objecting to the gerbil tube. Wow, you're good at twisting words. First, I didn't say I'd prefer a traffic light. I'd prefer not to have 4 lanes one way pulling into a parking garage. What I was saying is that crossing Ontario at a light (with a walk sign) is easier than crossing a busy 4 lanes one-way of parking garage entrance with no traffic control. Second, I said absolutely nothing (nor did Htsguy) about the gerbil tube. But since YOU brought it up, I'm opposed to it because it's ugly and I think there's better ways of getting people from a parking garage into the casino, such as relocating where the garage is and/or using an underground walkway. I didn't twist any words. I simply misunderstood your "since there are no....." as meaning it would be better with those signals/controls. I think that is a reasonable interpretation of what you wrote. I was simply trying to make a point that traffic signals at the exit to the valet station would make it less pedestrian friendly. I would prefer a permanent stop sign. Sorry. Also, I never said you (or Htsguy) raised the gerbel tube. Yes.... I (already in caps, no additional emphasis needed) brought it up because it seems somewhat, though not blatantly, hypocritical to throw your arms up about pedestrians having to deal with this (I suppose) never ending flow of traffic from the valet lanes and also throw your arms up about a design to give pedestrians the OPTION of crossing Ontario without having to deal with traffic. As I have said above, my personal opinion is that the gerbil tube is the most objectionable aspect. But I am not complaining about the valet lanes too. I want pedestrians dodging traffic and I want traffic dodging / yeilding to pedestrians. I think it adds some liveliness to the area ;)

  8. No moreso than making people cross Ontario.... which is, I believe, what most here would prefer to the gerbel tube. Just saying that we can't have it both ways. I just don't think this will be the pedestrian dead zone some are predicting. The intersection will now be occupied with ground floor 'something' on all four corners. I also don't know how many people who elect to use valet are actually going to walk upstairs and use the tube as opposed to braving the 150 or so feet on Prospect and then, gasp, crossing Ontario to the casino's main entrance. As has been said, we must now move on to trying to advocate for a better design, even if it is the same concept. No sense in crying over spilled milk.
  9. Yeah..... the Clinic has done way, way worse. The OCPM building was a loss of epic proportions compared to the Columbia. The original Hathaway Brown building too.
  10. If you knew the demo was going to be approved, you would not have placed the condition on it that the project actually has to be moving forward before the demo takes place? That's an odd position to take. Please leave the lights on when you go. I plan on staying.
  11. Close vote. I like the condition they placed on the demolition. Smart. Shows some foresight.

MTS silly. I guess his summer job gives him more flexibility to rejoin the conversation...
  13. ^^Very informative!
  14. Hey Hts, don't you think that after the success of E. 4th, that retail wouldn't logically spill out along lower Prospect? Perhaps. Like I said, it is speculative (which certainly does not mean 'out of the question'). But I think it more likely that it 'spill out' onto Euclid and/or E 4th south of Prospect. And, again, I think we disagree on the impact of this welcome center because I don't believe it kills the possiblity of your vision of retail along lower Prospect from coming to fruition... it 'may' even give it the necessary kick in the arse.
  15. I certainly am no huge fan of the PD editorial board and I agree that the 'vacant' quote is misleading, but I do agree with the following (which is why I am, for the most part, indifferent on this issue): The 1908 reinforced concrete structure, designed by Ohio architect M.E. Wells, is good-looking, but hardly remarkable. * * * * * By all means, city officials should keep prodding Rock Ohio Caesars to come up with plans that fit in architecturally with the Historic Gateway neighborhood, that incorporate the more significant Stanley Block building and that create buzz -- and pedestrians -- on Cleveland streets. But preserving the past should not trump building for the future. I realize that some consider this position short-sighted. Perhaps that is true (again why I am indifferent). But I don't think the issue is so one-sided as many on here believe. I think the 'hope' for lower Prospect is speculative at best. And I also don't think that this ruins the potential of lower prospect either. Honestly, more the the demo of the Columbia building, I don't like the skywalk.

The problem I have with Gibson is that he does not seem to play at full speed. He seems more interested in looking 'cool' out there on the court than going all out. But for the reasons BS stated, I'd keep him around.... unless some other team wanted him as part of package that brought us something of value.

^^Agreed. Hell... the Clippers just gave up an unprotected 1st round pick to get out from under his contract. Trade deadline during the 2012-2013 season is another story (because his contract will be expiring that summer), but I think the Cavs REALLY like having Davis around. He is a natural leader. The best one we have had.... perhaps in the history of this franchise. Guys follow him and he brings that requisite tough, no-back-down mentality to this team ^Hickson's play at PF improved dramatically with the acquisition of B Davis. Baron is able to put JJ in his place and keep his ego in check. Let's wait and see what kind of player Baron can transform Hickson into.

Sessions' trade value is probably as high as it ever will be. Too bad the team that values him the least is probably Minny :(
  20. Yep. Just noticed it today. Very big. Now we have turbines in sight no matter which way you are traveling on the east shoreway.
  21. ^$$ (if you count that as an excuse)
  22. It's subjective, but I disagree. i think our local media sensationalizes these kinds of stories to the fullest extent practical. Then again, there are a lot of people that sensationalize (sometimes extremely selectively) events which I don't find to be that big a deal. For instance, either you (and some other forumers) have absolutely pitiful luck or you are one of those types.
  23. It shouldn't be anyone's 'primary metric'. I just have difficulty believing the sensationalist details when the local press hasn't made a peep (not saying it hasn't, but I haven't seen any).... especially given our local media's obsession with these types of stories.
  24. Gardner Court? Has to be somewhere in the Gateway district, no?
