Sure it does. It proves he is very unpopular with his constituents who he was elected to 'represent' Agreed!

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
So.... just to be clear.... you think the zoning code is why there is (as you put it) 'practically zero' completed or under construction mixed use developments along the Euclid Corridor? You think that developers are just waiting for a change in that code before making their investments?

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
Just a guess, but maybe the Commission might be leveraging for some desired design changes. Perhaps the elimination of the pedestrian bridge or a better design to calm traffic coming out of the valet lanes.

The Lakers stole Gasol too. Or maybe it was just a gift from Jerry West.

Sure..... as soon as you identify the actions they have not taken (without speculating, of course).

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
I only ask because your understanding of how these bodies operate, and more importantly how they CAN operate, seems more than a bit off. And you didn't answer the first question.... I assume because you don't know..... not that the information could not be made available to you if you did want to find out.

NBA: General News & Discussion
Since 1957, the Celtics or the Lakers have won a combined 28 championships. The rest of the league has won 26. Yeah.... parity is crap in the NBA.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
I think they can go even bigger than that. Add in CH, Beachwood, South Euclid and Lyndhurst. There is no reason why one regional fire department can't cover that whole area. EC's department is looking likely to merge with Cleveland. That would pretty much take care of the entire easter inner-ring.

What actions have they not taken for which you think your constant barrage of criticism and belittling is deserved? Try to keep in mind that you only see the end result, perhaps option C.... after A and B have already been dilignetly pursued and ruled out. Have you ever sat on a governing body or commission?

NBA: General News & Discussion
Some do. But you missed my general point. The gain from not having teams in Cincy, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, does not necessarily come from those cities (although to some small extent it does), but rather from metros like Youngstown, Columbus, Erie, etc...... areas where Browns-Steelers or Indians-Reds allegience is more split. Trust me, I have met many of people from a wide geographic range at Cavs games. I agree that most people from Cincy would not root for the Cavs simply because they have "Cleveland" on the front of their jerseys. The animus in these other areas is not nearly as deep.

Doubt it. I'm not from California.

Then give it some time. Don't be a backseat driver criticizing the officials who spend countless hours actually trying to make this City better, not just banging away at their keyboards with zero consideration or understanding for the realities of turning an intersection like Euclid and 55th into mid-town Manhattan.

Governor John Kasich
Maybe he should hire some consultants to study how to get to Taft's level? How about $1million for each percentage point gained towards that goal?

Down to 33% approval - http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/05/another_poll_shows_low_approva.html Ties him for lowest approval ratings in the country. I'm pretty sure he doesn't care.

Practically zero if you ignore developments like 668, Uptown, Schofield, etc. And for every 'surface lot' there are no less than two great 'single-use' (is that the term?) project like MOCA, CMA and PHS renovations, CSU construction, apartment/condo renovations like University Lofts, Coltman, Circle 118, the Park Building, the Casino Phase I, UH construction, UC Hotels, CIA addition, Cle Hearing and Speech Center, CCF heart center and main entrance, CIM addition, Park Lane Villa, and probably many more I can't think of off the top of my head. The City has 'sought out' all kinds of developments for the Corridor. All kinds of developments have ensued (see above). If you are restricting your comment to the area between the innerbelt and CCF, I keep telling you all you have to do is either secure a loan or buddy-up with some multi-billionare and the City will roll out the red carpet for you to create your 2 mile strip of urban utopia. It won't turn down any proposals to create the 100 feet of vibrancy on each side of Euclid you seek.

^^Mad? Not sure where you got that. I'm not mad at all. I'm largely indifferent. By "sarcasm intended".... I actually BELIEVE that she and the other members will appropriately weigh the factors and carry out their duties without bias or prejudice. I don't believe that the "fix" is in.

With the framing complete, it seems as if they could finish the interior build out over the summer and have tenants in by the end of year. Just a guess.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Conflicting reports. Par for the course this time of year max in ohio: I've recently read that the Cavs have Valanciunas (or like we in cleveland call him Big V) higher on their board than Kanter. Have you gotten the same vibe? Jonathan Givony: Yes. Directly from Kanter's camp in fact. * * * * * Tony in akron: to me Valanciunas would be a terrific fit in cleveland next to Irving. he could play in a similar role like Tyson Chandler did in New Orleans. your thoughts? Jonathan Givony: I agree 100%. Irving is the best pick and roll facilitator in this draft, and Valanciunas is the best pick and roll finisher. They could be a phenomenal duo. http://www.hoopsworld.com/Chat.asp?CHAT_TOPICS_ID=1651 There is some question as to whether the Cavs would opt for Kanter or Jonas Valanciunas at this spot, but I'm told they have the Turkish big man higher on their board at the moment. He only helped himself in Chicago in terms of showing off his size, motor and level of fitness, but the workouts that will soon begin will weigh heavily on where he ultimately lands. Teams have seen Kanter play live just once (last year's Nike Hoops Summit), as he was ineligible for all of last season at Kentucky. Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...#ixzz1NOOB7oS0 I think I am leaning towards the theory that the Cavs want to package the #4 with at least part of their $14 mill TPE to get a proven vet who isn't too long in the tooth.

NBA: General News & Discussion
I love the homeless! Some of my favorite people in the City. And I love crowds too. It's not even the snow or the cold that get me. It is the grey skies. I need a sprinkle of sunshine every now and then. Cleveland in Jan-March does not offer much of that.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
I knew there was something I was meaning to mention. Last night, I stopped on my ride and took a good, detailed look at the progress on this project. The interior build out has begun on the north side of Euclid. Glad to report that this is project is not only not wood "framed", but they are using some type of metal studs for the framing of the interior walls as well. This is going to be a very solidly built structure. I would also guestimate that less than 10 feet was left between the side on the south of Euclid and the Triangle apartments' garage's north facade. I wonder what the gap between Uptown and the CIA will be once the CIA completes its addition to the west. Anybody?

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Agreed. I was indifferent to the bike lane on the Innerbelt Bridge. I definitely would have never used it for the reasons you stated, but I certainly would not have objected to including one for the brave souls who would find it convenient. This project, on the other hand, might encourage me to extend my rides past Public Square and into Ohio City.

NBA: General News & Discussion
Boston did draft Pierce and Rondo, and traded for KG and Allen. But once they had the "Big 3", they were able to..... wait for it..... 'recruit' some quality FA's to fill holes when needed. Chicago actually has an awful record in terms of attracting big name FA's. They wiffed on Wade, Bosh and Lebron. They thought they had Kobe, until he resigned in LA. They thought they had McGrady at some point too. There were a few others that I can't remember at the moment. NBA players, the good ones at least, make plenty of $$ to live anywhere they want in the off-season. I really can't blame them for favoring the Miami's and LA's when it comes to FA destinations. I know if I could afford to live somewhere else from New Year through March, I probably would.

Dear Jennifer: Save your breath. We all know 'the fix' is in and this is all lip service. Don't josh us by claiming an intent to 'weigh factors' (sarcasm intended) BTW, the Stanley Block appears to be in violation of most every subsection of C.O. 161.09(b)(2)

NBA: General News & Discussion
Cleveland is not a "small market" in the NBA. It isn't NYC, LA, or Chicago, but it has a bigger market than MIA, for instance. There are no NBA teams in Cincy, Pittsburgh, or Buffalo. That greatly expands our already "mid-size" market. There are no border wars with Youngstown or a split in Columbus. Erie, Pa., the Stuebenville metro, etc. are all up for grabs. As a season ticket holder, I constantly sat next to people from these areas who were Cavs fans. What hurts us in free agency is hardly our market size. It is the prospect of spending November-April (and possibly beyond) living on the North Coast. The only exceptions are the supersized markets of Chicago and NYC, and Boston because of the lore (which I think is going to go away when the Big 3 retire). No modifications to the CBA will change that.
