NBA: General News & Discussion
Windhorst said that the Mavs are the perfect team to beat the Heat, FWIW. I can see his point in that they have the Heat beat at every position except LBJ and Wade. They have the veterans in Dirk and Kidd who are both hungry for a title. They have an inside defensive presence in Chandler. They are waaaaay deeper than the Heat. They have a guy who can muscle up to LBJ in Marion. They have offensive firepower in Terry and Barrea to keep the Heat on their heels defensively. If I was a betting man, I would not put my money on the Mavs. But it is not totally out of the question.

Cleveland: University Hospitals Expansion (University Circle)
Rode by on my bike last night. The new front entrance to UH is looking nice. For whatever reason, the neon on the garage is showing up green in the picture, but it is actually blue.

NBA: General News & Discussion
Mike Brown made some mistakes. He wasn't perfect. But he was the subject of unwarranted vitriole by the fans. The man led the Cavs to the best records in franchise history, the NBA finals, the conference finals.... all while managing the the drama involved with Lebron. Cleveland fans might blame him for the team's alleged shortcomings, but you don't get the Lakers job by being "Mr. Potato Head" as Cavs fans called him. He also was the front-runner for the Golden State job and under consideration for nearly every other opening. I'll go witht he experts' opinions..... after all, they are the ones who are willing to invest millions in the man.

I can't imagine women wearing skirts would appreciate that idea. You would certainly increase street traffic directly underneath, though. And it would be an added incentive for there to be a restaraunt with a large outdoor patio on the SE corner. It would maybe make one of Forbes' lists for best places for 'people watching'

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Are you referring to the Jonathon Sawyer restaurant? I believe the second green restaurant they are referring to is Noodlecat, not another one after that. Meanwhile, Mr. Sawyer, business partner and wife Amelia Zatik-Sawyer, and partner Jonathan Seeholzer over the next year or two expect to unveil two more concepts, one planned for downtown and one on Cleveland's East Side, though Mr. Sawyer could not discuss specifics.

Yeah.... I think you mean E. 105, right? I know the strip you are thinking of just north of Wade Park. I would say that most, if not all, of those houses have had some renovations. Some more than others. Wade Park is in pretty good shape IMO. The only thing that stops me from moving to that neighborhood is the area immediately to the north has very little hope (at least at present) and there really is no buffer zone.

Breaking my self-imposed ban just to suggest what I have to others through PM. Submit a public records request to the City. Something like..... Please accept this letter as a properly submitted request, pursuant to the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) for the City of Cleveland to make available within a reasonable period of time, for copying and inspection, all of the following: 1. Any and all studies, evaluations, submittals, proposals, or other similar records concerning any and all options for parking dedicated for use by the Horseshoe Casino at 2100 Public Square (the Higbee’s Building). 2. Any and all correspondence between Rock Gaming (or any casino developer or affiliate or representative thereof) and the City of Cleveland, its commissions (including but not limited to the Planning Commission), boards, departments, elected and appointed officials, employees, and/or other representatives concerning available parking options dedicated for use by the Horeshoe Casino at 2100 Public Square (the Higbee’s Building). Such correspondence would include letters, facsimile, electronic mail, or any other written transmittal regardless of means of transmission. 3. Any and all public records concerning, discussing, endorsing, or dismissing alternatives to parking options dedicated for use by the Horeshoe Casino at 2100 Public Square (the Higbee’s Building) which do not involve the demolition of the Columbia Building on Prospect Avenue. Please process this request according to law and please be advised that time is of the essence. Thank you for your prompt attention to and anticipated cooperation with this public records request. When the requested records are available for copying and/or inspection, you can contact me at XXX-XXX-XXXX

Is the "large retail or restaurant space at the corner of Prospect and Ontario" a sham as well? All part of the 'fix' to 'ruin' our downtown core? Call me a 'glass half full' kind of guy, but when I envision that intersection with Fat Fish Blue on the NE, this new "large retail or restaurant space" on the SE, the casino on the NW, and Landmark on the SW, I don't see a pedestrian deadzone. Not at all. I think I could come up with a better plan if not impeded by any of the complexities involved, but I find this far, far, far from worst case scenario. I know how strongly people feel about this, so I am going to duck out of this conversation at this point. Others might be fine with it, but I don't mean to insult (yet it seems that is exactly the way dissent is interpreted on this issue). I think the passion is leading to a little bit of unreasonableness. JMO.

^I find that to be a bit harsh. I don't agree that it 'ruins the downtown core' at all. I'm pretty sure the core will still be there after this project is done. And I personally know people on the planning commission that would not participate in any such 'fix'.... I think they would find your insinuation insulting. These people geniunely care about the City. I know the majority (on here) will not agree with me, but I found the response to be an objective analysis of the pro's and con's without any blatant bias (at least no more bias than we are hearing from the die-hard preservationists). I was encouraged by the specifics on the street level activity that will be brought to the corner of Ontario and Prospect. I still wish that the Columbia could stay and the Stanley Block would be sacraficed in its stead, but I honestly think that I would have begrudgingly voted in favor of approving the plan if I was on the commission. I am trying to think of a several hundred million dollar project in which we did NOT lose something AT LEAST as significant as the Columbia building.

I thought Bar Louie was from NOLA. I know it is a cheap knock off of authentic cajun, but I thought the concept was at least spawned down there. On the bright side, weren't a lot of people saying just a few weeks back that the addition of chains to downtown would be a sign of vibrancy? Also, is it possible that Metro just sold its space and is planning on relocation or opening a new concepts somewhere else in downtown?

CLEVELAND - Making an observation
More observations: - The bird’s eye view of Public Square really show how much useful space is wasted for vehicular traffic - Prospect going east towards UC has a lot of potential - The RRHOF look much more attractive from the air than it does from the ground - Although not posted for that purpose, Robert’s side by side of the WHD really shows the TLC that neighborhood was given over the last two decades….. take a look at the white building on the corner for example

Does anyone here boycott specific actors' movies?
I used to boycott Aldous Snow, Jonah Hill, AND Puff Daddy. Then my wife randomly rented 'Get Him to the Greek' and I nearly pissed myself. Maybe it was one of those 'low expectations' situations or maybe I was just in a goofy mood, but that movie was hysterical to me.

CLEVELAND - Making an observation
Fantastic shots. I am going to have to spend at least another half-hour staring at all the details. A couple of observations: That green is awful. Not a good match with 200 PS. The Stanley Block seems to be in awful shape. Another reason it should be sacraficed to save the Columbia. One Cleveland Center needs a bath. I can't wait to see the Federal Building in its new skin. When is that supposed to start?

That would be a shame Willy and djunior. I hope you can look past your disagreement on this issue and do your part to make Cleveland a better place to live. 'Leadership' can always change if you don't like the current make-up of city hall. Of course, without living in cleveland, you won't have any say in that. It is an overreaction IMHO, to say the least

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
Well... we all know how much you love the CHPD, Clevelander17. Nevertheless, no need to indict an entire department for the mistake of an investigator that did not properly follow up. Your indictment really applies to police in general. Cleveland PD also failed to follow up with Sowell evidence. The state is actually looking into handling all rape evidence itself
