Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Well, as I hoped, Ty Lue is making the other teams tear up their scouting reports on the Cavs. After bombing away against Atlanta, we beat the sh!t out of Toronto in the paint.

NBA: General News & Discussion
The NBA just recently announced that teams can do this. I'll bet almost all, if not all, teams have corporate logo on their jerseys by the start of next season. I'm actually pleasantly surprised with how small that one is.

I'm glad we don't have to play a depleted and old Miami team. That is about as close as you can get to a lose lose situation in the conference finals

Cleveland: Stipe Miocic
Dude fell to the mat at exactly 2:16 of the 1st round. That was cool

^^Ironically, I think you were part of the target audience. Honestly, there were many parts people probably didn't fully grasp unless they lived it. Way too long of a story to tell in 90 minutes without leaving gaps. I was skeptical about watching for probably the same reason as you, but am glad I did

Good take IMO by Grossi - #Believeland didnt depress me. Except for the Move, all those endings were preceded by the best times we've had. I miss them.

^Perhaps those consequential layoffs are the "Easter eggs" E Rocc was speculating about? ;)

Did I say that? Are you in favor of making the minimum wage $200/hr.? Without price controls the minimum wage will never catch up with the constantly rising cost of living. And no, I'm not in favor of price controls. Well... I wouldn't have asked the question if you directly said that. I was simply asking what is commonly referred to as a follow up question because I took from your post that you don't see a value in having a minimum wage at all. I thought it was a reasonable question. We're simply having a discussion. No need to take every response to your comments so personally.

^So then you would be in favor of eliminating the minimum wage?

If the Cavs play OKC in the NBA Finals, we will have home court advantage.

^Or, perhaps better put, the State is not allowed to restrict the a City's discretion to set the minimum wage as it sees fit.

How about city workers? Are they all making above $15/hr? I don't believe so. I actually think the union representing the service department was one of the groups who advocated for an increase. But most other non-salaried city workers make above $15. If you factor in other benefits, which I think any legislation should do to a certain extent, I wouldn't be surprised if all city workers made above $15/hr. I'm all for raising the minimum wage, but this seems to be a fairly dramatic jump. It would nearly double the current minimum wage.

^^I'm pretty sure SixthCity was being sarcastic ^Thank you, Donald Sutherland (JFK) I don't feel all that strongly about this issue one way or the other, but I doubt it will have the disastrous effect some are predicting. What jobs in Cleveland are minimum wage? Of those jobs, which ones are in danger of moving to the burbs? Fast-food restaurants, etc. do well in the inner city. They can afford to pay their workers more than they do and still come out nicely. My assumption would be that the effect of this legislation is moreso going to be changing several jobs, which currently pay above minimum wage, into minimum wage jobs.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Interesting developments for the Cavs coming out of the other series. Portland pushed GS all series. The Warrior's defense has been less than stellar, and Bogut was kept out of the second half last night with an injury. OKC seems to be in control of its series with SAS. The Spurs lost 1 time at home the entire regular season and first round of the playoffs. Against OKC, they have lost 2 home games. OKC can close this out with a win at home in Game 6. In the East, Toronto and Miami continue to beat each other up in an ugly series, which Toronto now leads 3-2. Jonas V is out for the series with an ankle injury and might not be able to return for the ECF. Carroll left last night's game with a wrist injury (x-rays negative). Deng also left with a wrist injury (x-rays inconclusive). Whiteside suffered an MCL sprain and has not played the last two games. I'm not ready to join the "Cavs are now the favorites" crowd, which includes some notable basketball experts. But the way these playoffs are playing out is very not Cleveland-esque. Looks like lady luck is finally on our side.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
This does not concern me. Collier has failed to impress whenever given the opportunity. Burrow was clearly the #2. And don't forget about Torrence Gibson, a convert to WR, who was recruited as a QB and can be used as an emergency backup. It would be a shame if it came to that as Gibson was very impressive in the spring game at WR.

Ohio Medical Marijuana
^Fair point. Duh.... I hadn't thought of that. Does the 'drug free workplace' exception apply to off-site use? I suppose any drug, medicinal or not, which 'impairs' you is fair game for employers to prohibit while you are on the clock. You don't want heavy machine operators smoking a joint.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I know a construction manager with Cleveland Construction, which has done a lot of recent work for K&D. He is generally a very critical guy, but was very complimentary about K&D's dedication to a quality build out. I think that K&D's reputation is still hurting due to the pre-recession work it had did.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
There is a ton of misinformation going around about pursuit rules and the rules of engagement. Some of it, I'm sure, is blowback from the police to what they perceive as being demonized in the infamous pursuit case and the Tamir Rice incident. It's a tough situation, for sure. Police work always is. But I'm still shocked by what comes out of some cops mouths on this issue..... or what someone's 'roommates brother' who is a cop supposedly said. It is either a bad game of telephone or the Department of Public Safety is not properly educating their employees (no surprise there). Both the pursuit case and the Rice incident were examples of the police not following existing SOPs/SOGs. While nothing criminal may have occurred, no one who is even slightly educated on the issue would suggest that there was a sound adherence to policy.

Ohio Medical Marijuana
With certain exceptions, I don't take issue with private employers being able to fire their employees for violating an employer policy, even if that policy regulates off-site activity. The Cleveland Clinic doesn't allow any of its employees to use tobacco. Of course, a reasonable justification for that is those employees are under the CCF health care plan and the use of tobacco drives up health care costs. If I started a business and wanted to employ only sober individuals, meaning no drug or alcohol consumption, I should be allowed to do that. So long as the employer policy does not violate public policy, it should be up to the employer.... and up to the employee whether he/she wants to work there and abide by the rules.

So the Ohio House just passed HB 523 to legalize medical marijuana. Heading to the Ohio Senate now....

Cleveland: Nautica Development
^^There has to be some 'public access' not visible in these renderings. Otherwise, what paths of ingress/egress would be available to the tenants who want to arrive by some means other than water? Also, the only purpose for the lift bridge is to provide public access to the riverfront boardwalk. I suspect there would also be some sort of boardwalk which would surround the building itself, perhaps allowing for mixed use if desired. I think you can see that concept in the rendering. As for the size, if they want to market to the higher end boating community, they would need something of sufficient size. Very hard to navigate large boats in tight spaces (no brakes).
-
Cleveland: Nautica Development
Is the moat perhaps a necessary component to allow for the docking of boats? Perhaps the boat slips would be part of the lease? I recall some early rendering of the FEB showing boat dockets, but that plan was apparently scrapped. It seems that the Downtown community is lacking in such an option.
