  1. The complexities of putting together a half a billion dollar development project are not easy to grasp.

^You don't mean that those Fox News polls which show 95% disapproval of any given Obama decision are somehow not 'scientific', do you?
  3. I am not going to harp on the surface lot to the north. But the one immediately to the west of the tracks has got to go. At least break it up so that it doesn't act as a barrier between the hotel and the green space. 'We' weren't planning to do anything. 'They' (Fairmount) were 100% ready to replace them but something happened right about the time this project was getting ready to get started which halted construction nationwide pretty much.

How many of the 90% even have a clue what is being taxed? How many of the 90% who responded even bothered to vote? Posting polls around here is completely worthless Do you have a better strategy for calculating support for his decision? And what does it matter whether or not they voted? You can go decades without participating in the electoral process and still be an Ohio "elector" who has every right to be heard on any issue you choose to weigh in on.
  5. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is that white rectangular box in the third picture? Is that signage? Do I see surface lots?

Why not call this what it is?.... A blatant attempt by Kasich to subvert the will of the people to appease a distinct, but politically faithful (to him) minority. It has consistently been his M.O. since being elected. Kill the 3C, SB5, eliminate the estate tax, etc., etc.
  7. Just as I responded to an earlier post, how do you know they haven't fully evaluated that option? How do you know the owner of that lot was demanding an ungodly amount to sell the land? Please realize that there are countless meetings and discussions and planning that go into something so complex WELL before ever presenting any proposals to the public.
  8. Maybe all this fuss is for naught. Cross-posted from the Casino discussion thread, Rock has officially halted all construction for Cincy and Cleveland. Another victim of the Jobs *Killing* Budget passed by Kasich & crew. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110511/BIZ01/305110120/
  9. You think, even if Rock Ventures gets exactly what they want, this parking plan will "ruin" downtown. A bit extreme, no?
  10. This is why I have absolutely NO problem with the City of Cleveland 'poaching' companies from the suburbs. They have been doing it to the City for decades.
  11. I am sensing some of the same hypocrisy and strawman arguments from those opposing the 'convenient' parking options with those who opposed the 3C. Providing that option does not "make" casino goers do anything. Nor is there a requirement that you "must" park there to go to the casino. Just the same as no one was going to "require" you to take the 3C anytime you wanted to travel to Cincy, nobody is going to require that you drive to the casino, that you use the valet, that you use the hamster tunnell, that you leave downtown as soon as you are done gambling, etc., etc. It is just an option.... an option that will make "some" people very happy and will likely provide the casino with "some" customers it would not have otherwise. That is all. DISCLAIMER - nothing in this post should be construed as support for the demolition of the Columbia building.
  12. That would be a better unit of measurement. I imagine that 58 stories is their 'optimistic' target and that they have already identified "X" amount of floors for renovation in nearby buildings + some not yet released plans for new construction.
  13. Depending on the success of phase 1, later phases will be taller per my understanding. I could see another floor or two, but really this is about right-size IMO..... that is, unless you want a huge parking deck where phase II is supposed to go. I think if you look at other similar neighborhoods (such as Covernty) the 2-3 story residential above retail works relatively well in this area.
  14. Parking garage
  15. How do you know they did not explore that option (the May Co. garage)? Who owns it and how much $$ do they want for it? Despite what seems like the assumption, Gilbert & Co. hardly have carte blanche to point and say me-wanty.
  16. ^^Sounds good in theory, but what is the cost analysis of doing that vs. what they are proposing?
  17. Is that considered a walk-off walk?
  18. I vote for airport style moving walkways.... some neon lighting on the underside.... and world class signage dead center on the top, of course
  19. Isn't the smart house a Natural History Museam project?
  20. I like how the "J" on the south side of Euclid immediately abuts the parking garage. Once CIA expands its building, the small gap to the east will close a little bit more as well.
  21. I don't think Cleveland Heights fits the model you are talking about. Cleveland Heights always has been and always will be a magnet for eclectic types like artists. It is flush with artists in neighborhoods that really don't call for the type of 'revitalization' you are advocating for. I believe what you are thinking of is represented in Tremont and Ohio City to an extent, and moreso in the arts district along Superior.
  22. Ahh.... I got mixed up and thought that case had resolved. Yeah, this is a mess. Zaremba is getting sued on all sides by lienholders, contractors, subcontractors, etc.
  23. What is the status of sales in the condo building? Any word on the other phases? Is Zaremba still running the show? That building looks so much worse than it should in its unfinished state.

With SB5 on everyone's mind but not yet in effect as the law of this State, the media sure is starting to report on a trend that has been ongoing for several years (well before SB5 was a twinkle in Kasich's eyes) -- voluntary concessions by public unions. For instance, South Euclid safety forces (both police and fire) agreed to contracts containing 0% raises and reductions in benefits (including healthcare among other perks). There was another story today about concessions by the Berea school district employees who agreed to forego their previously agreed upon modest salary increase. Just a few examples from today of what these public enemies...... errrrrr..... I mean public employees have been trending towards since the recession put a stranglehold on local finances a few years back.
  25. Good to see. I hope that something can be done soon about the parcel immediately to the North now that the litigation is resolved. Anyone remember what the latest update on that was? From an aesthetic standpoint, it reallly could make a huge difference for the Coltman 27 development.
