  1. Critical mass is subjective and varies as far as what you are connecting the term to. If a major chain is setting up somewhere, it is because market conditions are right or another project (such as the Banks) vgives the assurance of proper market conditions, not because it *hopes* that its arrival will bring about those market conditions. Slightly related question - is Walmart an indicator of a healthy community? By the same logic being applied to this thread, I woukd say yes.
  2. This Hillis/Madden thing goes to show how passionate Browns fans are, but also how popular the White Rhino is outside of Cleveland. I know he is all my out of town friends wanted to discuss this past season if Browns football came up.
  3. PF Chang won't come until there is a critical mass. That's my point. So I would agree somewhat on your indicator theory, although I would not label it an essential element to the equation. Fridays is on Times Square because of the critical mass, not the other way around. I wouldn't be surprised, busy as it may be, if that location actually operated at a loss in exchange for the brand recognition.
  4. Only if the ref sees it. We are talking interior line here, folks. It ain't an ice cream social down there
  5. And I would contend that chains are more a consequence than a cause of a vibrant downtown. They're coming. I'm nearly certain of that.
  6. Kind of early to jump on the bandwagon, but I am having trouble resisting
  7. On that same note, are we not allowed to criticize cookie-cutter subdivisions full of aluminum siding and three car garages taking up half or more of the frontage? I mean.... heaven forbid, by doing so, we insult the people who live there.

70% disapproval as of now - http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/04/whats_your_assessment_of_gov_j.html Given, this is a NEO focused poll, but just judging from the comments sections, there are plenty of Kasich supporters who read cleveland.com. Point being, this is not the equivalent of some Fox viewer poll which shows that 95% of Americans disagree with Obama's decision to [fill in the blank].
  9. Eaaaaaasssssy Trigger. You asked for opinons and you got them. Sorry that everyone doesn't agree with you, but you'll just have to live with that. No need to call people snobish because they don't care for the typical fare at what you consider "quality" chains or agree with your speculative predictions on potential impact. But I think you will get your wish when Uptown opens as far as some very recognizable brand names on Euclid Avenue. These companies sees the right market conditions and they will pounce. What is the argument beyond that?
  10. We need some dirty players on this team. Look at what that approach has done for Baltiwhore and Pittsbooger over the years. We need to go out there like a bunch of crazed dawgs.
  11. City Hall used to be blocked from that vantage point due to the slight elevation of Mall B. And it will be again.
  12. Sheridan is not a private right of way and it intersects Mayfield directly. Oakwood Dr. is a private ROW and the only way to access it is to drive cross the Country Club's parking lot. Bring it down all you want, folks. I still have nightmares of double-bagging it up and down those hills. Whoever designed that course had no mercy for the caddy's

All over the place. I know a few that live in Pepper Pike. Nigeria is more westernized than most other African countries, per my understanding.
  14. My close friend Megan, and her husband, installed the mural at the Akron art museam. It was nice having them in town that summer. As always.... great pics, MayDay
  15. As many operations we can merge into the county, the better IMO. That goes for most every public service, including schools.
  16. It is a private right of way. The neighbors pay for their own road work, sewer lines, etc. No threat at all. They have their own little private little brick road world back there.
  17. There will be green space between the backs of these homes, which are covered with tree lines anyway, and any structural development. The one family I know that lives back there is neither up nor down about it at this point. Everybody is still waiting for some idea of which tenants will be signed. They are definitely intrigued by the park.
  18. Severance was built over an existing footprint that was already set up as a circle. Oakwood is more of a blank slate. How about we wait until at least one rendering is released..... one tenant is announced..... one iota of certainty is discovered on how it will operate before declaring it a massive failure. Edit: v probably a good idea. Then the road less traveled it is.
  19. Eggsactly. I don't see why some keep on wanting to re-direct the conversation to that strawman argument. Let me revise this..... I will picket if PF Changs dares to bring that horse statue downtown.

^Considering how much momentum the Repubs had going into the mid-terms, the high turnout from their base, the state of the economy, etc., etc., its amazing that Strickland nearly WON.
  21. ^Maybe would have been funny if talking about Cuyahoga County, but I am tired of people constantly imputing that government's corruption to the City. Sure, there are likely some council members who have done some ethically questionable things, but neither the Mayor nor any member of council is in the corruption probe as far as I know. Considering how much interaction City Hall had with DiMora & Co., I think you can safely say that City Hall doesn't deserve such unsubstantiated disrespect. Say what you want about Jackson's policies, he is relatively clean..... for a NEO politician.

I don't blame the people who voted for him as much as I do the people who didn't vote at all during this mid-term election. And, no, I am not surprised. I'm a little surprised by his arrogance, but not his actions/goals. I don't care for his "get out of my way" approach. He is still acting like a congressman, representing a distinct constituency, as opposed to being the Governor of the entire State and its whole population.

Its called an echo chamber, folks.
  25. About the only thing I enjoy at these places are the cheesy the birthday songs. The bigger the variation, the more clapping, and cheering they mix in to the song, the more I like it. If for nothing else, I just enjoy observing the group of servers they make do this..... with at least one mysteriously having a blast and another one utterly embarrassed.
