Galleria/ Tower City Restaurant destination?
I agree with your overall point about the critical mass..... but I could name several places downtown where you can run into in street clothes, sit at the bar and eat an $8 hamburger and leave. Winking Lizard, Golic's, Corner Alley, Flannery's come immediately to mind.

You don't consider Fairley, Bowers, Quinn, and Dareus to be athletes? Or is it just your opinion that Peterson, Green or Jones are better players. I agree that, at #6, you have to choose BPA (best player available).... but sometimes you can't distinguish between 2 or 3 players and that is where "need" and "fit" come into play. Fairley fits and he is a need. We need another DT to play alongside Rubin. Rubin is a 1 technique (outside shoulder of center) in a 4-3. Fairley is a 3 technique (outside shoulder of guard). Rubin is a space eater and run-stopper. Fairley is a havoc-wrecker and penetrator. They compliment each other perfectly. I'm also advocating for him because I hate all the post-season draft board movement. There is no way I thought Fairley would drop anywhere close to 6 when the season ended, but pre-draft BS seems to have done just that..... same reason Tampa was able to grab Warren Sapp a lot lower than he should have went.

Would that include parking options? Because I hear this numbskull (Trivissommo) on the radio constantly complaining to his millions of listeners that there are not enough parking options downtown and that nobody is going to go to the casino because there is nowhere to park. Point is, trying to appease a 'full range' of visitors can be damaging.

I think the OP is thinking more along the lines of national chains. I suppose I sort of see his point. I just don't see it as being beneficial to the City. I can't imagine anyone being booking a reservation based on whether there is a PF Changs downtown and I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in their dining options while here. There is a lot to gripe about your downtown Cleveland experience, but quality dining options is the last thing I could realistically see anyone complaining about.

Somewhat agreed. I always say that you can have a great offensive line without having a great running back, but it is much, much harder to have a great running back without a great offensive line. I don't think it applies to the same extent on defense, because the defensive backfield can have as much to do with the line's success as the line has to do with the backfield's success. Switching to a 4-3, we desperately need more d-lineman. That is for sure. But I still would grab Peterson up in a heart beat because this year's draft is ridiculously deep in d-lineman and at least one first round talent is bound to drop to us in the 2nd..... and, also, there simply are many more 4-3 lineman in the league (i.e. one-gap players) than there are 3-4 lineman (i.e. two-gap players) and we should be able to fill some in during free agency.... if there ever is a free agency period.

You think out of town visitors are going to want to eat at a restaraunt they can just as easily go to in their hometown and get the same exact dish? If I had to guess, if there are those people out there, they won't be staying in downtown anyway. They will get a hotel room on Chagrin Blvd and drive their rental car downtown. As far as chain restaraunts downtown, we are not completely without. Hard Rock is a chain. So is Morton's. So is Caddy Ranch. Just to name a few.

I just came accross some interesting statistics with regard to this. Since the recession, between 2008-2010, 4394 safety force contracts were negotiated. Only 69 of those went to binding arbitration. Of those disputes that involved health care provisions, the Conciliator/Arbitrator sided with the employer 82.6% of the time.

It is up there near the top, most likely. If you go back and read the first page of this thread, you will find some posts from someone who claims to be a family member of one of the well-established restaraunts, who claims that there is some crime. I think it also depends on where you define the borders/boundaries. Kind of ironic though that it was arguably the epicenter of crime in this City not too long ago. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if there were still small remnants of that. But I don't think that type of crime is what you are talking about. I never feel threatened there, but I can say the same thing about a lot of Cleveland neighborhoods and I know for sure that you and I don't always see eye to eye on when/where we feel at ease. Bottom line is it is a great neighborhood. Great for a night out. Great for just a stroll. It is a great assett to the City and it keeps getting better.

And I think that sentiment is rapidly disappearing. But I wouldn't recommend driving through EC, regardless of race. Two camera tickets in just the past two months for me :(

Feel free to point out a better comparable.... but judging from the foot traffic in those neighborhoods, it seems that some...... oooops, I mean "they"...... don't mind.

Oh.... I am on record as Sully not being the right fit for the Cavs, even if he were coming out. Regardless of his differences with Hickson, they are both 4's for sure.

When is the last time you went out for a meal in Glenville? As far as general racism in LI, I can only speak from personal experience when a few. Friends of mine from high school were jumped by their own LI neighbors because they had a party and brought the 'wrong kind' into the neighborhood. Ironically, these same neighbors did not have the 'calzones' to say anything the next day when we set up lawn chairs on the front lawn to see if they were interested in a fair fight. This was in the mid-late 90's and I had a quasi ban on LI until just this past summer when I took notice that things seemed to have changed for the better. That doesn't mean that I would recommend to any of my black friends a nice day out in LI... anymore than I would recommend a nice afternoon stroll down Eddy or Kinsman to any of my white friends.

And that was always the smart thing to do. But I believe LI has reached a bit of a turning point.... an evolutiton, if you will. That said, I would carefully check my food if I was a black patron.... and I definitely would not recommend living there to any of my black friends.... at least not yet.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Hickson is a legit 6"8....... 6"9 with shoes on. His massive wingspan adds a couple inches, too. If I was an NBA scout, I would definitely look at standing reach over the more traditional measurement of height. And Hickson and Sullinger should never be compared. They are completely different players. Ironically, both have exactly what the other needs more of.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Either Peterson or Fairley should be there when we pick and I had them 1-2 pretty much since the bowls. I would be happy with either one. I like AJ Green but I personally think Julio Jones would be a better fit playing in the AFC North. I also think there are good WRs who will be available beyond Rd 1.

People are more fickle than you think. The balance between the parties can swing in a heartbeat. That is why it was so critical for Kasich not to delay. Because he was able to push, cram, ram it through, the referendum, if there is one, will be on the 2011 ballot. If he would have waited any longer, than it would have been placed on the 2012 ballot and the RNC would have shat itself.

Governor John Kasich
Plausible? Sure. Unfortunately, all you need is a simple majority of those who show up at the polls in any given election to amend our State Constitution. It is how we somehow, someway perverted our Constitution by including a negative right - i.e. the ban on gay marriage - a few years back in this document which is supposed to grant our individual liberties, not deny them. All that said, if you wanted to create a recall process in Ohio, a constitutional amendment is the way to go. Perhaps the only way. I don't have a problem with that, even if I think it should be much more difficult to amend the constitution than what it takes.

Governor John Kasich
No. It is not a petition effort, either, to my knowledge. It is symbollic at best..... a phantom puch of sorts. If you want to strip Kasich of his powers, work towards swinging at least one branch of our government away from his party. Fact is, the governor's office, the house, the senate, and the supreme court are all dominated by his fellow republicans. Such a governmental make-up does very little to make him want to abandon his "my way or the highway" (no pun intended) approach. Some balance would be a welcome sight.

My own personal opinion as to LI boundaries: - the cemetery to the northeast - the top of the hill to the southeast (i.e. anything north of Edgehill/Overlook) - the RR tracks to the northwest - and Cedar Glen Pkwy to the southwest. If that area is more than 1% black, I would be shocked.

Governor John Kasich
Well you really don't make it sound like that when asking "Why should he have some kind of immunity unlike his private sector counterparts". Then you say you are willing you are "willing to let the chips fall with his policies". Those statements coming from the same person are completely contradictory. Well, let me try to help you out then: 1. I don't personally support a recall of Kasich 2. I support there being a process for recall of elected officials in Ohio That's what I believe and there is nothing contradictory about that. It would be the same as me saying: 1. I didn't personally support Kasich for Governor 2. I supported there being a process for an a-hole like Kasich being elected as governor. Nothing contradictory in that either.

Governor John Kasich
Once AGAIN, I (as in me, myself and I) am not advocating for 'canning' Kasich, or whatever you want to call it. But I just can't agree with the system being designed so that Kasich (or any elected official) is immune from recall regardless of how unpopular he becomes with those he represents. AGAIN, I am just speaking theoretically here. I (HTS121) am willing to let the chips fall where they may with his policies.

Yes. Directly accross Mayfield from City Hall. The rendering above, if it was a photograph, would have been taken from the sidewalk in front of the Lutheran East athletic fields. The condo building, which is up on Mayfield and seen in the background of that rendering, is almost full, although it was harder to sell than the cluster homes seen in the background of my photograph. These townhomes will be built in groups of 3 and will form a rectangular shape directly east of the Condo building. The cluster homes will continue to fill up the back. One thing I really liked about the new townhome component is spiral staircases leading to a rooftop deck, which, depending on the tree line directly to the north, could very well offer lake views. It's a good, not great, project for CH.

Governor John Kasich
I guess I wasn't clear enough. There should be a "mid-term" process. Not a re-run of the election, but some process which could express the clear and unequivocal will of the people, if such a will truly exists. Let's delve back into the public v. private sector debate, since it has been coming in so handy for me these past few weeks..... CEO's, managers, directors, etc. can all be fired. Why do you want Kasich to have some kind of immunity which his.... ummmmmm..... private sector "counterparts" do not?
