Cleveland: Random Development and News
Rysar has broken ground on a new phase of Bluestone in Cleveland Heights. This is the residential development built where the old JCC was located. Cluster homes, a condo building, and now townhomes, which are going to be placed on the southeast corner of the parcel, basically where the sales center is now

Governor John Kasich
Political dissent, bro. Welcome to America. Speaking out against sitting politicians does not make you a "crybaby" or a "sore loser". I suppose you think exercising your 5th Amendment right would make you a wussy? No, believing that you can strongarm the will of the people - who voted him in on a MAJORITY vote, by using bullsh!t recalls is doing nothing but resorting to the lowest form of trickery to achieve your personal ambitions and beliefs. I expect this sort of stuff from conservatives, because it's been mentioned before (e.g. think the 2000 Bush-Gore election mishap), but from liberals? See my post upthread. I personally don't support a recall and wouldn't vote for one if it could even be held. But there should be a process, so long as simple majority is insufficient to complete that process. If, say, 2/3 of Ohio electors want him gone (for whatever reason), they should have recourse. JMO. There should be a process for doing just about anything in this Country. It's not like that 'plurality' of electors who actually decided to vote in this mid-term election would not get a chance to block his recall. There just has to be a point where the people he represents can say that they don't want him representing them anymore.

Cleveland: Current Ethnic Neighborhoods
Thanks! I had been wondering about this since last summer when they just seemed to appear out of nowhere. The neighborhood has always been diverse, but this new South Asian mix definitely stands out. The article seems to be exactly what I am talking about re the apartment buildings on S Green and Noble (just south of Monticello). And since they seem to like to walk so much, you can barely drive down either one of those streets anymore without seeing them.

Cleveland: Current Ethnic Neighborhoods
Right around Denison and the 60's, no? I think you have two different characteristics here. For instance, while LI and AT might be the center of that ethnicity's shops/restaraunts, etc..... it is the not the residential epicentre, which is very hard to identify these days..... mostly, if I had to guess, because neighborhoods are no longer built around churches the way they used to be. I will add these: Orthodox Jew - large swath in Cleveland Heights in the residential neighborhood east of Taylor and between Mayfield and Cedar. There is a growing population also further out east along Green Rd in University Heights and Beachwood. Indian - massive influx into the apartment complexes along Green and Noble Roads north of Mayfield...... although I am sure there are much heavier populations elsewhere. Russian - yes, Mayfield Heights. To be more exact, the SOM/Mayfield area. Asian - Solon and the Orange School District

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I think this is great for the Avenue at TC. With it being the natural concourse between the casino and Gilbert's 4 diamond hotel, too many people with deep pockets are going to have an interest in making it as attractive as possible.

Governor John Kasich
I would not support the recall of Kasich, but I do firmly believe there should be a mechanism for doing so..... so long as it can't be accomplished with a simple majority.

SB5 Bill and Repeal News
^You are really stretching it for the sake of making an argument. Please do explain how these 'bidding wars' start relative to positions in the classified civil service. And I also don't think you fully understand the 'extraterritorial impact' component of home-rule analysis and how/when it is used, particularly when discussing matters of predominantly local concern such as compensation for employees over and above state/federal minimums. Since the pro-SB5 supporters are always trying to compare public sector to private sector, imagine if Uncle Sam deemed from his 'bully pulpit' in Washington that your wages/benefits are too high and passed a law which capped the compensation your private employer could give you. I'm not saying that is the best analogy, but it is as good as any other you want to draw between public and private sector employment.

NBA: General News & Discussion
I think there was concern about re-signing Perkins.... i.e. a difference in opinion between the franchise and his people on what he is worth. Getting a former #5 pick (Green) and a serviceable big-man (Kristic) was better than cutting their losses. I too am really looking forward to the Playoffs. If things stay as they are, it will be NYK-Mia in the 1st round. Talk about a court full of divas..... should be interesting. I am also going to go out on a ledge and say that Portland is going to make some unexpected noise out west. They are really starting to come together since that Wallace trade and Roy getting back healthy. Denver is another middle tier team I don't think anyone wants to play.

Access to Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino
I may be in luck here since the Green Rd. stop is closest to my house. And, at the end/start of the line, RTA always tends to hit that stop as scheduled, so all I have to do is look at the RTA website and plan accordingly. Do others not have any luck doing this? But I agree with you, parking is going to have to be provided in abundance. All we can hope for is that the planning is done right. I like this.... http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=embed&hl=en&geocode=&q=Charlotte,+NC&aq=0&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=57.118084,71.982422&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Charlotte,+Mecklenburg,+North+Carolina&layer=c&cbll=35.227228,-80.839027&panoid=4X9cKpWtkADlvVNLVJbfKw&cbp=13,344.51,,0,0&ll=35.217313,-80.838861&spn=0.022018,0.048237&z=14&output=svembed

SB5 Bill and Repeal News
Municipal corporations operate at the will of their electors. If the electors choose to incorporate and draft a charter, the provisions of that charter may conflict with State law in all matters of local concern. But in an attempt to redirect the conversation, my point is that State law can and should set 'floors' for employment matters. That is the one explicit exception to the Home Rule amendment in our constitution. It can and should tell the cities (and all employers) that they must pay their employees x amount of dollars. It can and should tell the cities that they must collectively bargain with their employees. But when the State starts setting 'ceilings', then it has overstepped its bounds. It can't LIMIT the benefits a city wishes to give its employees. That is a matter of purely local concern with no extraterritorial effects. On the same token, it can't dictate how a municipal corporation and a local union resolve their disputes when the parties both desire ADR.

Cleveland: Smoking Ban in parks and public places
This won't pass. But it will get Joe C. a lot of pub, good and bad. As for the littering concern, I suppose if you're willing to risk that fine, then you're going to be willing to risk this one. All this would do is deter the already responsible smokers IMO.
