Oh no..... not the chicken and the egg debate again....

Don't forget what we had to give up for the BP building. My favorite parts of downtown are the WHD and East 4th. Harking back to times past, the east bank would be included. Notably, no skyscrapers. The most lively parts of downtown from the street are the gaps in the skyline from a distance...... not saying that I don't like looking at the skyline from a distance.

Modern day skyscrapers tend to be too self-sufficient.... if that is the right term. They have parking down below and evrything you could want within their walls. They don't encourage you to leave the building. Typically, they don't have any interaction with the street. They look nice from a distance, but they don't have the same street impact that two or three buildings could have. This is particulalry true in our CBD where there are ample empty lots to be filled. To me, skyscrapers should be built out of necessity. You build up because there is nowhere to build out. That's where their utility lies, saying nothing about their symbolism.

"Fog days"? I mustve missed those when I was in school ;) I agree that it should not be a high burnout field. But I do acknowledge that it does happen, especially to those "change the world" types who quickly find out that teaching at some inner city school isn't quite as rewarding as Hollywood makes it out to be. Also, one should not assume that just because class is not in session, that teachers are not working. Out of classroom work, if the teacher is doing his or her job correctly, should be significant. There are also a lot of days that students have off where teachers do not. They don't get the same vacations that students do. Some districts also require extra-curricular participation.

In my ideal world, the taller and bulkier buildings would be broken down into neighborhoods. The last thing we need is more street life killing structures like the Key Tower. Also remember that due to how deep our bedrock is, building skyscrapers in Cleveland is very expensive.

I didn't realize until just the other day that I know the owners of this new market. Very nice folks.

Agreed on the testing issue. That is no way to grade a teacher.

I believe there is a new law, passed under Strickland, which will mandate smaller class sizes by 2014. I think it will require 14:1 for K and gradually increasing from there. I agree with that method. The younger the classroom, the smaller in size it should be IMO. The main reason I am going to absorb the cost of pprivate school for my son and send him to a montessori is because of classroom size at our public schools. I also think you are both right to an extent about teacher demand. To my understanding, there us an overflow of elementary teachers but not enough for high school.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Yeah. I tried to catch the highlights on Sportscenter and all the clips and talk was all Knicks until the very last second when they showed Boobie's 3 pointer at the end. Oh well.... I guess other teams had to deal with that for 7 years whenever they played us....

Cleveland: VA Hospital Expansion
I seem to recall north of 100,000 for downtown and about 1/3 to 1/2 that in UC.

I love those houses too, but you can literally spit at a real bad stretch of 105th from your porch. No buffer at all.

1000 new workers sounds about right. But the spin off will be much more than that. The administrative offices moving from Brecksville (accounting, regional counsel, record keeping, etc) is going to bring a different dynamic too. At least it won't have one of those spiral spines going down the middle. I took my pick-up to a Cavs game one time downtown and parked in a garage with one of those. That was interesting.

Cleveland: VA Hospital Expansion
What/who are the dorms for? I hear the exterior design of the Cares Tower is causing some difficulty in terms of interior design and functionality as a hospital. Nothing beyond minor inconvenience, but surprisingly not anticipated.

So is the money to pay Kasich and Walker..... and their appointees. Point? What's your solution? Make them work for free?

I feel the same way. Keyword: 'feel'. I don't know either personally, but neither has done or said anything to dispel that notion in my mind.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I heard we just got two big men from Boston for our 2013 2nd round pick. I believe we have Miami's first rounder that year, so not a big loss. Luke Harengody and Semih Erden. Probably has nothing to do with the Cavs giving up 17 boards to a 6-6 center last night ;)

Exactly. If it puts them in a better position to beat the Heat in a 7 game series...... Gilbert might jump at that chance. But seriously, Parker is a FA at the end of this year. If you can get a pick for him now, then why not? Keep an eye on Jamison possibly going to GSW as well for either Biedrins or Murphy. Murphy would be bought out most likely upon arrival if he was the player returned.

Pet Peeves!
Requirements on insurance companies as far as covering mental health issues were amended with the health care reform act passed last year. You might want to look into that. Otherwise, don't underestimate your ability to self-treat certain mental health disorders (especially if it is something like panic disorder or social anxiety disorder which I don't believe involves a chemical imbalance). Get a good recommendation for a self-help book for your issue and try that. Just my personal feeling with no professional qualifications, but I sometimes feel that modern society overtreats and overmedicates. Good luck.

I think if the Bulls or the Celtics make the right offer, Parker will be moved before the deadline.
