  1. Not as hard as it would be to secure the financing to build residential on that lot.
  2. The Browns are closer than the Tribe, IMO. The Indians are spending half as much as their division rivals and a fraction of what the larger market teams. They have obstacles the Browns do not. And it is a lot easier to catch lightning in a bottle through the draft in the NFL than it is in the MLB.
  3. ^This was my point. It certainly was not the only factor, or even the biggest factor, but it was a factor.
  4. Is my math off? I thought this was supposed to be a net gain, but with Viking Hall closing (300 residents), how does adding 270 in Euclid Commons result in a gain?
  5. My chrystal ball is telling me the same thing.
  6. Yes. Not exactly what I remembered, but that is probably it.
  7. I guess I am somewhat pleased that it will not go on Euclid, but I wanted this move for the City. In fact, it now appears as though the City will LOSE jobs by the consolidation occuring in the burbs. And out of the state/county supported projects for MidTown, I liked this one the most for Euclid.
  8. There once was a rendering that had a banana shaped marina slightly pertuding into a boardwalk of some sorts....
  9. I didn't mean to imply he city was too small. But the WHD offered a much calmer, more relaxed atmosphere. The people that wanted the rowdiness stayed down in the Flats. The people that didn't began to frequent the WHD and their diluting effect was lost down in the Flats.
  10. Don't underestimate the emergence of the WHD as at least a factor in the Flats' demise. It pulled a vital, balancing (if you will) crowd up the hill and left the Flats as mainly a nightclub destination.

Why are they trying to ram/jam/bam/cram this down our throats? My windpipe is still recovering from the health care bill.

So you think it is the duty of legislatures to give an up/down vote on proposed legislation? I would agree with that...

A little over a mile is my best guestimate taking the Red Line into UC. And you would have to walk up Cedar Glen Parkway and then another hill until you reach the "Heights". The Green Line would drop you off more around 2 miles away.

it is in the same strip as the Mad Greek. Parking in the rear... where it should be ;)
  15. I predict that a lot, if not most, of the casino patrons will be people who don't visit downtown regularly at present.... and a lot, if not most, of those who do presently go downtown, won't become regular patrons of the casino. As far as weaving the casino into the urban fabric, it is not so complex. Don't build it with a buffer zone of parking. Make it interact with the street. Put it within spitting distance of other popular attractions. I think they have all that covered.

Because those extremes are in California ;) This is the Kasich thread. Let's limit it to the problems Ohio is facing.

Your perception of the hoops government has to jump through to fire a government employee is not accurate. Classified civil service workers have to be given notice and a fair opportunity to be heard. This involves a letter telling the employee that a pre-disciplinary hearing will be convened in a few days and the worker must appear. Nothing stops the employer from placing the worker on paid or unpaid leave until that hearing is held. At the hearing, the worker is allowed to respond to the charges but, the simple fact is, 99.9% of the time this is all colored bubbles to comply with constitutional mandates as the decision has already been made for all intents and purposes. The same day as the hearing, a letter is issued telling the worker that he/she has been terminated. You are citing to the extremes. You may be confusing the post-termination process which may or may not be required by contract and/or local civil service rules. But the worker is gone by then, just keeping their fingers crossed that they may get their job back if a 3rd party neutral finds that there was no just cause.

Don't make me dig through the Obama thread and show what a hypocritical statement that last sentence is.
  21. "CSU is getting bigger, smarter, and younger" I nearly fell out of my chair. So used to the we are getting smaller, dumber, and older meme of the PD, I suppose. Great to hear about the upcoming groundbreaking for the North Campus mixed use project. Where exactly will tis go?
  22. ^Much :) Better - Oakwood Commons Overview
  23. This should really be renamed as a "Cleveland Heights / South Euclid" development. In fact, I believe most of the "development" will occur on the South Euclid side. Anyways, I received a pamphlet in the mail from the developer. I must admit that they are saying all the right things and promoting it as an anti-sprawl development. Interesting points too me centered around the reconfigurations on Warrensville Ctr Rd, the costs of which will be fully absorbed by the developer. This will include new sidewalks and pull off lanes for buses. There will also be a lot of "green" features to the construction. I was pleased with the presentation.
  24. It has to turn out like that to receive the historic state tax credits. The facade must be restored to original form.... within reason, which unfortunately will not include the original clock tower.
