With that level of investment ("hundreds of millions of dollars"), it seems the Higbee building is a lock to become part of the permanent plans, no?

Cleveland: Downtown Parks and Plazas
The Malls? They have to be included. My personal fav is probably Voinovich because I am a sucker for the waterfront. Wade lagoon would be favorite in the whole city though I realize you are limiting this thread to downtown.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
It appears the Glenville pipeline has a leak with Aundrey Walker, the massive OL, signing with USC over OSU. There were questions about his work ethic, so it might not be that big of a letdown. Still waiting to hear about the LB from Virginia, Curtis Grant. He would be a huge get. OSU for whatever reason seems to have bad luck on signing day with these last minute decisions. I guess these recruits who wait to signing day to hold a big presser are more of the "look at me" bunch that don't fit as well in JT's system. On a related note, one of our signed recruits, Chris Carter out of Cle JFK, seems to have found himself in a bit of trouble for "fondling" some younger girls he was measuring for ROTC uniforms. Uh-oh.....

Cleveland Snowfall
Da#m that reminds me that I forgot to take down that icicle to end all icicles that is hanging from my back gutter. That SOB starts at the top of my second floor and nearly touches the ground.

You all seem to be assuming that FCE is going to reinvest that money in Cleveland developments? Is there something to the agreement I am not aware of?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Got some names of college players likely to be there when the Browns draft since we can't do fill-in-the-blank questions? There's no way to tell who will be there, especially in this draft. But here are the consensus top prospects (probably in this order) D. Bowers - DE - Clemson N. Fairley - DT - Auburn P. Peterson - CB - LSU M. Dareus - DT/DE - Alabama A.J. Green - WR - Georgia R. Quinn - DE - UNC P. Amukamara - CB - Nebraska V. Miller - OLB/DE - Texas A&M If we stay at #6, I would be surprised if one of those guys wasn't our pick. However, there may be some interest for some team looking to take a QB because SF picks right behind us and may grab the top QB available. So if another team wants to leapfrog SF, they may give us a good offer to move down. My personal favorite remains Ryan Kerrigan out of Purdue, but it looks like you can get him about 10 picks lower, so I would be in favor of trading down. As you can see, this draft is ridiculously loaded with defensive lineman. Our biggest need is surely WR and defensive linemen, specifically 2 gap tackles (think Warren Sapp) and edge rushing ends (think Dwight Freeney). If you want to add QB's to the poll, put in B. Gibbert (Missouri) and C. Newton (Auburn). Gibbert is the consensus top QB and Newton has the star power to go in the top 10 even though some scouts are very shaky on him.

They got someone else to pay them $85 million to be allowed to build a casino that will likely result in a large upswing in business at their mall. FCE really saw Gilbert coming a mile away. They're getting paid on both ends of this thing. I don't think DG got swindled. It's likely a win-win. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone is focusing on some possible benefit to FCE, but don't forget that Gilbert now gets to build a world class facility right accross the street from the Q. I suppose the question is whether $85 mill is FMV for 16 acres of downtown riverfront property. Any real estate people care to weigh in?

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
It seems the much cheaper and less intrusive option has been on the table for some time - build a Mall D that would extend out from Mall C over the existing tracks and shoreway. Cheaper of course is a relative term in this context. It would still cost a bundle, but losing the two garages and tunneling the tracks and the shoreway below grade seems like a pipe dream.

US Economy: News & Discussion
I think that is more than a thought. I believe we have seen that trend really pick up ever since we started flirting with $3 per gallon during the Bush years. Now, when young families are considering the exurbs like Solon, which boomed unbelievably during the 1990's, the cost of their commute is at the front of the conversation. Before the hike, nobody really gave it two thoughts.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
Nothing final has been decided. First step is to separate it from the CC. I would wait for that to happen first before, but don't hold your breath for mixed use. Its purpose should stay consistent with the inscription on the exterior.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
"Specialty" grocery store. Not sure exactly what that means, but it ain't Dave's. Probably not enough space for a Whole Foods. Heinen's is a possibility but that would target the older crowd, not college kids. I'm thinking something smaller and more affordable.

Cleveland Heights-South Euclid: Oakwood Commons
Then you did so as a trespasser since it is not a public ROW. The residents have to pay for the wear and tear you caused to the brick ;) ^^although it was sad to see the JCC go because it was where I went to pre-school, no one is fighting Bluestone or the Zaremba development accross the street. No one would have fought the apt building on Lee either if that had gone through. Name one new development that didn't involve national chain stores which the residents "resisted". They are not opposed to development at all.... just the type of development that kills the character of the city.

Cleveland Heights-South Euclid: Oakwood Commons
I think you misconstrue the general sentiment. Yes, more green space is always welcome, but that is not the focus of the overall objection IMO. CH residents, on a whole, are just different from the typical suburban crowd. They don't want the big boxes or other national chain stores. They want to do what they can to help the botiques and locally owned businesses prosper. That's what makes the Heights the Heights. That's why there was such a huge fight over the Walmart. They don't want Olive Garden or Chile's. They don't want industry of offices. Revenue takes a back seat to maintaining the character of the community. I realize that even CH is slowly succumbing to the times, but they won't take it lying down. I can promise you that.

Warmer temps also prevents the lake from freezing over thereby allowing the lake effect snow to keep pounding us.

Governor John Kasich
Good news. Probably the way I would have wrote the anti discrimination policy in the first place if I was Governor. I've always held the belief that the GLB movement needs to go ahead without the T. It brings a rational argument about "choice" to the table that really throws the entire debate for a loop. JMO and I realize there are many psychologists and other professionals that disagree with me.
