That's why I said "seems to be" As of yet, there is nothing to corroborate the conspiracy theories. But, yes, I have my suspicions. It would almost be too random just to be random.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Does Columbus have a DP registry? If not, that might be a reason Cleveland ranked ahead of it in being "gay friendly"

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
So I saw some story about a University Heights man who was carjacked and kidnapped in his driveway and taken down to East Cleveland. His abductors demanded a ransom from his family. But the guy managed to get away and police found him on the street gagged and handcuffed. Crazy stuff. I can't remember ever hearing about any ransom driven kidnappings around here where the abductee was just an average joe like this guy seems to be.

Cleveland: Random Discussions
The red line is heavy rail, not exactly a beacon for developers because of the freight traffic. The green and blue lines were built with the specific purpose of servicing the suburbs which look down on you lowly lake level folk. Don't forget that there was a massive street car system in the City when the rapid was built. I believe it was intended as more of a long range commuter

Governor John Kasich
Imll move on when Kasich signs the Order. I know these subjects are difficult for you because the logic behind such a policy is difficult to twist in a fashion that will allow you to keep you .999 batting average of siding with the GOP on social issues. But sometimes you just have to accept that there was no ulterior motive...... but rather just a leader doing what leaders SHOULD do. On your future hypothetical, that day certainly may come. And I will bet the farm that you will come charging in with your gasden flag screaming "liberty for all" in protest of the termination.

Going to the West Side Market for the first time...
Yeah.... for the stuff they will give you for $1. We usually shop at the WSM for big weekend dinners, so its not an issue for us. But you can still find good stuff late in the day at the bakeries and butcher shops. It's mostly the produce that you have to take a close look at, especially when they are trying to push it in your face. The key is to just look at what your buying.... and that applies anytime of day you shop at the WSM.

Going to the West Side Market for the first time...
Can't agree with you there, Ken. Go late on Saturday (after 4pm) and you will get all the deals because the vendors want to get rid of everything and not have to pack it up. You'll be amazed what $1 will get you.

Governor John Kasich
The EO applied to all "State of Ohio" employees. It did not just apply to the positions the Governor appointed, but also all appointments and hires thereunder. It was hardly symbolic. It applied to all state employees, gay, straight, whatever. It applied to current employees and potential hires. It was the right thing to do. I find the libertarian viewpoint on this issue, especially as applied to public sector employment, to be downright disturbing. Nothing in the EO forced the state to hire any gays or retain any gays that aren't doing their job. All it did was ensure that the State was operating in the best interests of her citizens by hiring and retaining the most qualified employees regardless of sexual orientation. And now Kasich has removed that protection which will remain for other classifications. What if he had removed protections for white males but left in all the rest. I'm soooooo sure the faux libertarian crowd would give that the thumbs up.

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
Sounds like Medina is what you are looking for. Great square. Very picturesque. Burton too. Chardon as well. Chagrin Falls is more like a strip, than a square and I'm sure you've been ther many times growing up on the east side. While its not urban at all, you may also want to look into Middlefield..... great little Amish shops at the center and on Navoo Rd

Governor John Kasich
How do you figure it is a legislative issue? We are not talking about all employment in Ohio. We are not even talking about all public sector employment. The EO only applied to State government employment. Isn't that the Governor's field of play? In fact, you could argue that a legislative measure that only restricted the governor's appointing authority and not that of other public and private employers would be a violation of the separation of powers and not a proper use of the general assembly's authority under Art II Sec 34. That said, I am all for the GA applying the rule on a statewide scale. I assume you would be too (sarcasm intended).

Governor John Kasich
I'll agree that he could still be contamplating the issue, but neglect I won't buy. I would be shocked if this wasn't brought to his attention prior to the expiration.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I don't understand how this calls for extended rail lines to the east. Is that dotted blue lineto the SE going to be rail?

Governor John Kasich
I really hope he reconsiders the State employee protection. What could possibly be the rationale?..... other than hate, of course

I was wondering the same thing about Stokes. It also looks like they added some building in the CSU area, no? There are several things about that skyline that don't look right.

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
Willoughby is a very cool suburb. To me, it doesn't have the separation from the rest of the metro to fall within the category I think CO is asking for. If it does, then we might as well start mentioning CH, SH, Lakewood, etc.

Chagrin Falls and Medina, IMO. Burton has some charm and the Amish influence forces it to have some level of walkability, but it is not urban at all. Geneva is another good one.

North Point I would be comparable..... just a bit bigger, I believe. That is the smaller of the two North Point buildings.

Governor John Kasich
I assume you mean "fewer" people. I don't know the answer though. But if he is cutting down on the size of government, isn't he also cutting down on the responsibilities of government? If Strickland had programs A, B, C and D run by a cabinet of 20 and Kasich is going to cut D and have a cabinet of 16 then no, the people in place might not have more responsibilities. They would have less, in fact. On the other hand, if the responsibilities increase, I would agree that a raise is justified. But then again, how do we justify giving raises to the top cats, while cutting the salaries of their support staff who would also have increased responsibilities, no? I used to enjoy Connie Schulz's columns for her views about daily issues. She's become unreadable anymore with her obvious political slant. Might as well have her byline read "sponsored by Ohio Democratic Convention". Then again, perhaps she's balanced out by Kevin O'Brien. I posted that link just for you buddy. It was posted just so you could verify the facts. I would have just mentioned it, but I didn't want to get accused of just making stuff up again :) (still waiting for you to offer a smitten of proof on that one). Probably the one and only time you will ever see me post something from Schultz. I don't care for her either. But since when do political "conventions" sponsor editorial journalists?
-
Governor John Kasich
I didn't. Where did you get that notion from? I never said he wasn't going to. If he has a strength, that is it.... and I have consistently said so. But the budget is not the be all, end all to me. I can cut the budget if you elected me governor and told me that was all I had to do to be viewed as a success. It's more complicated than talking points at a Town Hall meeting.

Governor John Kasich
Not quite. Close though. It appears he is cutting some jobs altogether and then lowering the salary on several other positions to give his high end appointments more $$. But, yes, that is his prerogative. And, yes, it is in line with Republican ideology. Trickle down economics, in a sense, applied to the public sector.
