I took it as a kick right in the nuts ;) You're right. He shouldn't be criticized for everything. And I don't think he has on this board. I, for one, have said nothing bad about his economic development plan, which I would consider his big ticket item so far.

How about we let everyone express their thoughts and leave the name calling out of it? You make a lot of assumptions. Allow others to do the same. Its all just opinion at this point, one way or the other. To me, his actions/decisions since being elected have done nothing but amplify the concerns I had gong in. I'm going to express those concerns. That's my right as an Ohio citizen and elector. If you don't like it, don't read the thread..... or just skip ahead to the Kasich friendly posts. Simple as that. And I don't think that one person said that it was racially motivated, so your Jackson and Forbes line is not called for. Just because not everyone is willing to just give him the benefit of the doubt and completely rule out any racial motivation, does not make us anywhere close to a George Forbes.

At least some of the money that he is giving to his pals at the top is coming from reducing wages at the bottom; i.e. support staff - http://www.cleveland.com/schultz/index.ssf/2011/01/kasichs_pay_priorities_are_all.html I hope this is not a foreshadow of things to come on a lager scale in this State. Wishful thinking perhaps.
  4. I agree that it doesn't sound like the "world-class facility" we were promised...... yet. But like I said above, the larger, non-local potential tenants have very little incentive to sign on at this very preliminary point especially when their commitments are not needed to begin construction (a la Nashville). My point was that I certainly would have hoped for a heavy presence of local companies. Since the taxpayers are footing the construction bill, I expect some kind of minimum quota to be met, in fact.
  5. Not disappointed at all by the volume of local tenants. I always thought part of the concept.

I think it is just a matter of Kasich picking people that agree with his ideology, which is a statement in itself. So much for the "new face of the GOP" we keep hearing about...

Check this out - http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AiRYZCvwAX3CHqZ34iv8HoW8vLYF?slug=aw-wallacebobcats011411 I used to hate him, but I've really come to respect Woj's accuracy with rumors. He doesn't BS like some of the other guys out there. As for Wallace, I always like him as a player. He's my absolute favorite player to use on 2K11...... no joke.

I wonder if he has at least satisfied the Rooney rule... As of Thursday, Kasich had appointed nearly two dozen cabinet members and none were African American or Hispanic. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/black-leaders-seek-diversity-in-kasich%27s-cabinet I'm trying to imagine the outrage if Obama had apointed two dozen cabinet members and they were all black.
  9. JMO, but the County building is exactly where it should be. Like everyone else, I don't like the building itself, but the placement is perfect from a functionality standpoint. They are planning a plaza between the MM and the County building. I suppose they could expand into that area, with a different, more vertical design and not have to worry about relocating the County admin offices.
  10. He said CIA :)
  11. I'm not sure what incentive any of the big names have to sign a letter of intent. They can jump on board anytime they want. Probably smart for them to wait and see.
  12. That was another big difference with the area of the South I lived in. Nearly every latino was mexican. We have virtually no mexicans in Cuyahoga County.
  13. Of course there are no magic dividing lines folks. If something has "more of a _______ feel" that doesn't mean it is __________. All we were discussing is the different feels of Cleveland. I'm sure Cincy has different feels depending on where you are. I won't speak to it like I've lived there for decades though.
  14. You ever lived in the Bible Belt? Just saying that you can get a totally different feel as far as the social atmosphere depending on where you are. The inner ring on the east side of Cleveland is notoriously liberal, hipster, artsy, eccentric, whatever descriptor you want to use. And yes, those traits leave me with a very east coast feel. Same feeling I get over in Tremont. Don't worry. It's not a commentary on Cincy at all.
  15. I've lived there a few times. Still go there several times a week because my best friend is now living right off Neff. Collinwood and Euclid were always tough areas as far back as I can remember. Lots of blue collar families. Its always been that way and probably always will. What's different is that it has become more integrated and that leads to a lot of the "downhill" comments from long time residents who preferred the more segregated neighborhoods of the past. I'm sure it had its glory days, when all the factories and homes were new, but that was long, long ago. Definitely more than 10 years.
  16. OK. I know what you mean.... except for the fact that I would have never thought of that area as anything but lower middle class, regardless of race.... save for the tiny stretch north of Lakeshore, which is still very much middle class.
  17. My dad always said your house/car/whatever is worth whatever someone will pay for it. I don't blame the seller. I don't blame the lender. The buyer has to take some responsibility here. Don't buy a house that cost 3x what you make in a year. That would be a good start. My parents bought their 3 bdrm home in Cle Hts in 1978 for $36,000. That house just sold for $120,000. That's crazy.

Sugar.... errr, I mean Kerrigan is still my guy as long as Peterson and Fairley are off the board as expected.
  19. Technically, they broke ground a few years ago.
  20. Yeah... that makes sense. Not sure why I was thinking the county annex would remain.
  21. Oh no! Not the African Americans! Seriously, I am very familiar with that nabe. Heading there in about 1/2 hr as a matter of fact. There has definitley been some noticeable improvement. For instance, it now has the nicest elementary school in the entire City perhaps. And FYI, the neighborhood IS lower middle class. It is what it is. That's what makes it attractive to artists and other lower middle class types.
  22. I got jumped from all angles by the westsiders on this board when I made the same point. I remember when I was living in NC and coming back to the Heights was nearly culture shock with all the black rimmed glasses, streaked hair, piercings and other little things like that you don't notice until you live somewhere else.
  23. Pic from today. You can see the parking garage on Ontario is gone and they have erected a base of operations on Mall B that resembles a large greenhouse. One question, though.... is taller, thinner structure its own separate building or is it part of the County Annex or is it maybe part of 113 St. Clair? Will it come down? FWIW, looks like the Sportsman is next.
