Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Ha! The one time that excluding the metro area data would benefit us, they included it.

Cleveland Heights-South Euclid: Oakwood Commons
I agree.... but Costco is somewhat of a mix of the big bulk stores and Walmart. I was just as surprised to hear this, but it did come from someone I would think has his ear to the ground as far as development in that area FWIW.

Cleveland Heights-South Euclid: Oakwood Commons
Why not? The Mayfield costco is so crowded all the time that the lines almost discourage you from shopping there. There is a Walmart in each neighborhood and they both seem to do well.

Cleveland Heights-South Euclid: Oakwood Commons
I'm hearing some rumors of Costco being the anchor tenant. That will make the Heights folks more against this development.

Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
Where exactly did you live? What building?

Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
What area of the Euclid Corridor "passes through a particularly bad area"? I would agree that it "extends into a particular bad area" (East Cleveland), but I wouldn't say any other part is particularly bad in a way that would discourage development. The large chunk between the Clinic and CSU (which I assume you are referencing), particularly the closer you get to 55th from either direction, is definitely not a "good neighborhood" and it may appear to be a particularly bad neighborhood. But I would say appearances can be deceiving in this situation. I ride my bike through it without much concern at all (I would not ride through EC and several other Cleveland neighborhoods).

US Economy: News & Discussion
They need to keep falling if you ask me. It will cause some short term pain for sure, but way too much of our $ goes towards house payments. The prices nearly doubled, even in stagnat areas, over the last decade or so.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Not a very strong draft and CBA unrest may cause some players to return to school. There are the two Jones guys, one at Ky and the other at Baylor, I believe. There is Sullinger at OSU. There is Irving at Duke. If I were Grant, I would stockpile picks for 2012. I think that class will be much deeper in talent.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
More like driving without an engine. I think the losses of Shaq, Z and West are also overlooked. And say what you want about Coach Brown, but I'm thinking we might have been better off sticking with him. Anyways, the Cavs need to lose. My chief concern going into the season and especially after starting out playing .500 ball was slipping into a peretual state of mediocrity with no real way to improve

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
What happened, as best as I know, is that Panzica placed liens on the condo building claiming it was owed $. PNC than told Panzica to either remove the liens or sue for foreclosure. Panzica sued and Zaremba counterclaime for alleged water damage caused by the improper installation of a sprinkler system. The case is still ongoing.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Eh.... I think Cleveland has never really had an affinity for high end condos. At least not in our lifetimes.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I agree. I happened to drive right by it today and it looked anything but full. I am starting to think that they should have just went all Townhomes until the "District" was more built up. Townhomes sell in Cleveland; condos, not so much it seems to me. Apartments rent, but condo sales are sluggish at best. The projects I know of that have both component (such as AD and Bluestone) seem to do much better with the Townhomes.

More pics... this time, from the west. If someone could get on top of that windmill and take some shots, we would have all four angles covered ;)

Cleveland: Random Discussions
Chester was lined with apartment buildings back in the day. We have some picture somewhere on here. But I believe the majority of this area was always industry.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
The Memorial Park garage may not extend under St Clair, but it is under Mall A

Cleveland: Random Discussions
I think we need to make it through Avenue District phases 2 and 3 before having any discussion of a high-rise.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
It does not. The bottom of the "L" abuts St. Clair. I believe that parking for the Marriot is underneath Mall A.

Up-and-Coming Neighborhoods -- Any Progress?
The Euclid Corridor project has generating billions in investment... literally. TOD at its finest, even if some of those projects would have happened with or without the Corridor. I'd say that Cleveland proper is much, much better and has a lot to look forward to. Shaker and Cleveland Heights are fairly stagnant (unless you judge a city based purely on racial demographics). Lakewood has some great promise. But several of the inner ring suburbs, especially on the South side are in some serious trouble. Buy, hey, every City has to have its bad neighborhoods and it would be my preference (for selfish and sim city fantasy purposes) that our ghettos be to the south. Get them the hell away from the Lake!

Cleveland: Random Development and News
IIRC, the design is nothing more than a glass exterior added to the existing facade. Solely for insullation purposes.

Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
I would have to agree. Revitalization is not necessarily the same as gentrification, which is how market rate forces turn areas around. Gentrification suggests that there is more of an upscale presence (i.e. "the gentry") coming into a neighborhood, which usually follows artists and urban pioneers. Not quite the same as building a bunch of housing targeted as affordable. Immigrants could also transform a neighborhood, but that is not what is being contrasted in this case. As I said in the other thread, don't hold your breath for anything high end in Waterloo. A stable, modest, middle class neighborhood is its peak potential. Nothing wrong with that though. It is somewhat of a good thing IMO. At least the artists will be able to stick around and enjoy the nabe they just revitalized. Now, there could be some potential for higher end closer to the Bratenahl border, but I doubt it.

Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
UO likes diverse neighborhoods. We criticize Crocker Park but praise Steekyard Commons. If there is a percieved bias, it is because many of the east side city proper neighborhoods are not diverse.

Governor John Kasich
If your boss orders you not to vote in any manner under threat of termination, then yes, it would likely be a discharge in violation of public policy or violation of some other law. But I don't believe it would be illegal for your boss to not provide a time slot on election day for you to vote. Early voting and absentee ballots eliminate those concerns, as do the hours of the polling stations.
