Seems like a great opportunity for those of you objecting to the lack of bike lanes to voice your opinions. Give 'em hell!
  2. Why Cleveland? How about an AFFORDABLE city with mass transit, liberal leanings, cold weather, water sports and a diverse population. Or, more importantly, the fact that you immediately feel at home. Don't listen to the haters that inevitably chime in (in their own subtle way) whenever anyone even suggests the notion that Ctown vmight be a preferable place to live. Great.... now here comes the name changes and faux "love" (inside joke)
  3. Did I say otherwise? Last time I looked in my hornbook, reported crime = crime. But, just in case someone wanted to do a comparative analysis, "crime reports" don't always paint a full picture when you compare areas like Tremont and OC, where the residents will more than likely report minor crimes, to neighborhoods where calling the cops violates some kind of street code. I would rather live in a place where people actually report crime. For instance, after my car was broken into last week, I went straight to all my neighbors andd told them to lock up at night. One family, who had moved in last year from colinwood told me that the same thing happened to their son's car the weekend before. What pissed me off is that they hadn't called the cops and hadn't told any of the neighbors.
  4. The google images are probably a few years old, so there will be some renovations that don't show up there. However, you have to keep in mind that the neighborhood is somewhat of a frontier of gentrification. It is still very rough around the edges, if you know what I mean.
  5. There is a fairly large amount of *reported* crime that occurs in those neighborhoods.
  6. One option you could look at that is close to your price range would be University Lofts (pretty sure that's the name). I think we have a thread on its recent renovation. Right on Euclid around E40..... so about 15 blocks from CSU. Studio apartments, I believe.
  7. Take a look around Little Italy. Great access to public transportation (Rail, BRT, and Bus). It is immediately adjacent to University Circle, a great cultural hub (museams, galleries, severance hall, etc). It is also very close to Cleveland Hts.... which is just as 'cool' as Lakewood, just in a different way. You can look around the Heights as well. That said.... if you know people in Lakewood, I would recommend starting out there. A new city can be very lonely when you don't know anybody and might skew your perception. Whatever you do, good luck! And please don't let 'others' influence what feels right to YOU. That's all that matters. Plus, southern ohio's image of Cleveland is as off-base as cleveland's image of southern ohio (straw hats, fiddles, swap-meets)...

I have been sticking up for Mangini all year. But if he starts JD one more time, I will feed him to the wolves myself. That said, in the end, the improved draft position is gonna pay off IMO. The team needs more top end talent. Let me revise that statement - the team needs top end talent.
  9. No... I believe (but not sure) that the row I am thinking of is on 105 between Wade Park and Asbury.

I'm with you on that map CDawg. I hate the traditional American regional definitions - east, south, midwest, west. Way too broad. If I had to peg Cleveland and Toledo into a region, it would be the Great Lakes Region.... very similar to the shaded area on your map. Properly termed "regions" IMHO (off the top of my head) would be New England, the East Coast, Appalachia, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Southeast, SoFla, the Bayou, Ozarks, Southwest, SoCal, NoCal, Northwest, the Rockies, the Great Plains... and the catch-all, "Kentucky USA"
  11. Weird..... I am sitting in my Dad's den on Dilworth Rd West as I am typing this. Doesn't seem to be many foreclosures around here. Before the crisis, the thing to do around here was buy one of the 'shacks' (per Dilworth standards), tear it down and then build some out of place faux victorian montrosity. Thank god that stopped. It was killing the invaluable character of Dilworth. BTW, any idea what the Cleveland and Dilworth connection is? Seems too coincidental that there are three street off East Blvd, back to back, named Cleveland, Euclid, and Lyndhurst.
  12. I agree that you should rent a uhaul and pull your car. Uhaul will hook your car up for you once you have loaded up the truck. Come back with more specific questions once you locate rentals you thin you like. From what I hear, your neighbors can make or break your Lakewood experience given the density. You can ask the board about specific streets and our forumers with expert knowledge of the city can advise you on the pro's and con's. You are coming to CSU at an exciting time. Lots and lots going on. Lots of changes, for the better, from when I attended one of its schools. Quick question..... if you haven't found a place, why have you restricted your search to Lakewood. Don't get me wrong, its an awesome city.... but so are many other areas of Greater Cleveland. Regardless, welcome and good luck!
  13. ^^ Magnolia, Wade Park Ave..... that area. Some are renovated, some dont need renovation, some are run down. Do a tour on google street view and see what you think. I believe there is a whole row of renovated Victorians on E105... Or maybe that is E115 I am thinking of.
  14. I never viewed 3C as a vital cog to a national system. It was more about intra-state travel. If a HSR line is going to be built between NYC and Chicago, I anticipate it will have to stops in Cleveland and Toledo. It wouldn't make much sense for it not to. I actually thought the 3C would've possibly moved that stop to CBus..... even if it took the line slightly off the path the crow flies. Therefore, I am not too woried about Ohio being completely bypassed in any NATIONAL HSR system, but I can see CBus being completely passed over.

I can make it on very little sleep..... but I have never pulled an all-nighter and then made it through the entire next day without going to sleep. That siad, I can't say that I ever HAD to....... if that was the case, I could probably make it, but man do I hit a wall around noon the few times I tried to pull that shite

With regard to public sector unions, his two prong attack is confounding. He wants to prohibit the right to strike AND do away with binding conciliation for emergency response services. Maybe he does not understand that first responders must arbitrate their disputes because they are not allowed to strike. The system is designed so that a neutral third party, not the City and not the Union, is tasked with the undesirable duty of dictating terms and conditions of employment when negotiations have reached ultimate impasse. He won't get his wish. If he wants to do away with strikes and send everyone, including service workers and other similar civil servants to conciliation when impasse in negotiations is reached, that maybe could be done. If he wants to do away with ultimate impasse conciliation and allow all units, including Fire and Police, the right to strike, that is another potential avenue..... even if unwise. But you can't get rid of both. The best he can hope for is a cap on the conciliator's ability to award wage increases..... but then there would have to be a corresponding cap on the ability to decrease wages.

Please don't. Put it in the NBA or other applicable existing thread like "pet peeves!"
  18. The 3C had absolutely nothing to do with a purported "transfer of wealth". Can we leave that talking point out of just this debate, if nothing else. Next thing we know, someone will manufacture a strawman argument tying states rights into this discussion. Or muslims.

Welcome to the club. Hug and kiss your little girl evry chance you get. And don't forget to enjoy the time that she is not mobile. As crazy as it seems now, there is a certain serenity at this stage that dissappears the minute she starts crawling. FYI.... the Little Gym on Chagrin is great. I think they start infant classes at 4 months. My son has been going there since he was a baby and it really is one of tghe highlights of his week

Not that much of a difference door to door.... plus, none of the toll booth workers have insisted on touching my privates... or my wife's. I have probably taken this drive more than 30 times over the past 15 years. It ain't that bad

Well.... I understand the desire to not duplicate discussion in two separate threads. But this topic certainly gets right down to the meat and bones of Governor Elect Kasich and his policies

Further along on the trip we come to Beckley WVA, where I thought long and hard about purchasing this flask I found at the gift shop. It was on a key chain.....

Why do similar trains work... in less populous places like North Carolina... if what you say is true and accurate? Its OK to own up to the fact that it was simple partisan politics. It was something YOU personally did not envision using, but you knew it was something your political opposites deeply desired. Any and all fiscal arguments have been blown out of the water. In fact, the fiscally IRRESPONSIBLE thing to do for THE STATE OF OHIO was to kill the project, not let it proceed

I suppose I consider anything west of Sandusky to be NWO..... going south to maybe a county or so beyond BG. JMPO.

So we're on our way down to Charlotte for our holidays visit with my Dad. Just stopped about 20 minutes north of Marietta at a McD's to get my kid a happy meal and, holy shite, that was the worst ugly convention I have ever attended. Every single person in that place was upsetting to look at, both employees and customers. And I'm not even in WVA yet!
