There are State agencies in Cleveland. We have a whole building downtown dedicated to them. BWC is already in all these cities. The AG, for a multitude of reasons, must stay in Franklin County. Interesting idea, but C-Bus has become reliant on those state employees and shuffling the deck is not going to make a significant enough impact in the other two C's or some of the mid-size cities to make it worth it.... IMHO. The benefit to Cincy and Cleveland would not outweigh the harm to Columbus.
  2. My artist friends have left New York.... well, they haven't officially left (they are subletting their place).... but they are residing in Norway now and thinking about coming back home.
  3. A month or two ago, I could not get a table at Zinc on a Saturday and I had called a few days in advance.
  4. Our winters are waaaay worse that Philly in terms of both cold and snow. But I agree that whatever worked in Boston will work here. We get more snow because of the Lake but nothing is all that different that would require a new wardrobe. Just make sure you have all season tires and take extra caution if your car is rear wheel drive.

To get compensation, I believe you have to make a qualifying offer and I doubt we make any offer that would qualify for a draft pick in return.... nor would any team want to give up any of their picks for the pleasure of signing E Wright. I say sign to a bargain basement 1 yr deal and let him go into the off-season hungry to come back and prove himself.
  6. Remember what I said upthread about taking the E 152nd exit instead of the Eddy Road exit on your way to Nela Park. GPS/Mapquest will probably tell you to take Eddy, but 152nd is safer and less confusing. FYI.... East 152nd looks grimier than it is (meaning, if you need to stop at that BP right off the highway, it is safe to do so). Just get off the highway, turn right, go over the railyards, stay straight accross St. Clair and then make a left onto Woodworth/Noble Road (not sure which it is called at that point). Then you just cross through Euclid, go up the hill and Nela Park will be on the left.... you can't miss it. Probably about 15 minutes, give or take a few depending on lights. Of course, you could also take Euclid all the way down to Noble.... but that would probably add at least 5-10 minutes to the trip just because of lights/traffic. But it would be good to know this route just in case of a traffic jam on the shoreway (not likely to happen because you will be going against the flow of rush-hour traffic). Good luck and I still say 668. It's the hottest address in town right now! You might want to delve more into the differences in terms of atmosphere between the Warehouse District and East 4th to see which one you would prefer to live so close to.

Wright is a FA as well, I believe.
  8. Ah, yes.... I thought he was referring to the Euclid Arcade, not Colonial Marketplace. I still don't see how you can have a view of the Colonial Marketplace from 668.... unless that view is from the interior.

It's funny how differently people are reacting to this game. Putting aside the loss, it was either one of the more exciting games to watch or one of the most agonizing. Maybe it just comes down to the mood you were in otherwise. For me and three of my closer friends, it was a great way to spend a Sunday, despite the fact that we lost. Very entertaining.
  10. ^I'm sure there was another reason, but she simply said she wanted to try something different and I know she got a job there and gave up the exact same position with the same company in Dallas/FW. Go figure... Maybe she just wanted to get on the fastest train out of Texas and her company said "well... there's an opening in Youngstown"
  11. Young people move. It is a fact of life. I never suggest living in the same place your entire life. Nothing will make you hate home more than never leaving. Spread your wings. I tried it for 7+ years and ended up right back where I started. But at least it was an informed choice. Just like the originalbjw, I have friends in places that people consider more attractive (NC, DC, Cali, Texas) and they are looking to move. I just met a girl this past weekend who volitionally, for no other reason than to try something new, moved from Dallas/FW to the Youngstown area. Nobody I know who currently lives in LA is actually from LA and nobody I know who is actually 'from' LA still lives in LA (I know that is kind of cliche, but true nonetheless). All that said, Ohio does indeed have more difficulty than some other States in attracting young imports as compared to the flow of young exports. I would pin that on the economy more than anything. My point is that there is not and never will be a magic bullet that allow us to retain all of our young people. No State can. What we need to do is balance the flow or, better yet, tip it in our favor.
  12. Not attached. It is accross Euclid Avenue and a a few addresses to the west. If I had to guess, the unit you are looking at is fronting Euclid and you can simply see the Euclid facade from your window. I don't believe there are 2nd floor windows on the west side of the building, which would be the only other side you would be able to see the Arcade from.

Just get me Patrick Peterson and you can throw away the rest of our draft picks...
  14. I've suggested a different approach and the only one I see as having even the most remote success. Progressives need to do a 180 and start an anti-rail campaign. Long-shot, yes. But it plays right into the current reactionary state of American politics. Cost implications will matter no more. Budget concerns will evaporate. Problem solved.
  15. 668. Location, location, location.

I highly doubt the Dolphins are going to give up a contributing player to take a gamble on Delhomme (also, he's signed at big $$ for next year, no?). But given Delhomme's apparent mentoring relationship with Colt McCoy, I think trading Seneca would actually be the smarter move and would yield a greater return. Maybe we can give Denver another call? I like the deals we get out of that team ;)
  17. So you didn't mean: "I find it highly unlikely that one is going to convince someone to visit Cleveland from Cincy or vice versa simply because you can take a train to do it"? Hopefully after reading my post and the responses of others that it is not as 'unlikely' as you might think. And I really hope that, one day, more people in the 3 C's realize that there is more to do in our 3 great cities than visit relatives/friends.
  18. If I owned a property and someone was sitting on my doorstep (doorstep meaning a part of the building I own) the property owner would then have a right to ask them to move. Would you allow someone to sit on your front doorstep and take a leak, or maybe more? And yes, that is what happens often in some areas. It is going on right now on the square but I do not want to mention the place. Of course private properties owners have the right to tell them to move or request that the cops order them to move from their private property. But public spaces (parks, bus stops, benches, public squares) are a different story and that is where the problem lies. And you are simply arguing with yourself if the point you are trying to make is that the sight of homeless people walking around the streets, panhandling, urinating, and sleeping on benches, sewers, etc. is not particularly appealing to the general public. That goes without saying.
  19. On the contrary, my wife would have went with my son to Cincy last weekend if the train were an option. She loves to visit her best friend who moved there from NJ a few years back, but riding with my son and without me can be a difficult 5 hours. Plus, she is not that familiar with the area. Riding a train and getting picked up at the station, on the other hand, would have been a breeze for her and my son, who loves everything about trains, would have got a real kick out of it. Perhaps you meant to say, "I find it highly unlikely that I am going to visit Cleveland from Cincy simply because I can take a train to do it." And I'm sure there are many, many in your camp on that one. But there are others, in different circumstances, who view it through a different lens and find different rationale for its use.
  20. Despite this common misconception that the City simply panders to every wish and desire of the homeless advocates, the City did indeed have a policy in the 1990's which allowed the police to forcibly remove homeless people from downtown and transport them to other locations. The City got sued in Federal Court and was going to get its arse handed to it, so it had to reach an agreement to stop that practice. Some cities have laws against sleeping in parks or putting your bags down on the sidewalk. But, the problem with such laws is taht they cannot be selectively enforced. It has to apply to all City parks and it can't be applied to homeless people only. It would preclude me from putting my bag down as well if I got tired. That's the thing I think most are missing. If you make a law that you can't sleep in parks, for instance, then arguably that would preclude a saturday afternoon nap at Edgewater or a sunbath on the Malls. All of us end up sacraficing our freedom/liberties too to make the uncomfortable feel a little more secure. Personally, I don't think that homelesness is nearly the problem along 9th/12th as it is in other parts of downtown.
  21. Unfortunately, this line of thought is rampant in our State and is surely one reason the 3-C is not high on many people's list. I, for one, was hoping that the 3-C would provide the opportunity to educate our population that, wherever you live, the other two C's are desirable places to visit and would offer a relatively hassle free way to take a weekend, or even merely a day visit.

It's exciting to me because, even when we had a few decent years (2002, 2007).... something just didn't feel right. It didn't feel like Browns' football. This does.
  23. Sad, yes. But who has the legal right to tell them to move? BTW, did I see Mr. and Mrs. docbroc cutting the corner at E 9th and Chester around 7 pm or so on Saturday night?
  24. ^^Shall we force the tenants to stay as the building crumbles? I feel a lot of your complaints on various subject matters, but your solutions are often out of the realm of possibility and do not take into consideration the legalities involved. Companies are free to move whenever their lease says they are. We don't want restrictive regulations that make them feel trapped in an out of date, not well maintained office space. It would piss off the company and turn the landlord into an emboldened slumlord. Landlords have to be kept on their toes. They can't just sit around and collect rent. They have to do whatever they have to do to retain and attract tenants..... and that pressure-cooker is a good thing for the City.
  25. I don't see anything wrong with Downtown office tenants playing musical chairs. I'm sure this happens in just about every major U.S. city. People always bemoan that it is not a new company moving in, but ignore the benefits of such movement. Movement creates investment. Calfee wants to move and grabs up a relatively unused and beautiful building downtown. They sink millions of dollars into the renovation and add a garage. All that is good for downtown. The space they left can now be used to attract new tenants and/or force the property owner to make some changes in terms of adapting/upgrading the office space and/or repurposing the space.
