Sure, if you are in the camp that thinks that 'dividing line' is set according to the use of the word 'pop'...

US Economy: News & Discussion
Good thing we don't live in Haiti. Less bad thing we don't live in Haiti. Where is there a good government, in your subjective estimation? There really isn't much of one, across the board. There are lots of good ideas scattered out there, and more from recent history that have been lost. (For example, Hong Kong had a lot more going for it before China took it back from the British.) OK.... then how about a foreign country's governmental system that is simply better than ours? But it has to a comparable society... so you can't say Alaska, for example :)

American Regional Dialects
^If I had to draw a line between the East and the Midwest, it would be right through the Cuyahoga Valley. But the 'pop' thing does permeate the entire City. Thankfully, I never really picked it up... due to my parents never using it.

American Regional Dialects
I really don't care what dialect you use, the word 'measure' should never be pronounced "may-jur".... with an emphasis on the "may" I also hate when folks add an "s" to words when there shouldn't be one. That happens a decent amount in "old Cleveland"...... yous (as in "yous are gonna get it"), says (as in "So, I says..."), peoples (as in "they are good peoples"), mines (as in "that's mines").

American Regional Dialects
I think I use some pronunciations that are not typical for the region.... but that probably has more to do with both my parents and my wife being from the east coast and me spending a decent amount of my formative years (late teens and early twenties) in the Southeast.

Probably.... just like the President could say no to flying on Air Force One.... or a member of Congress can decline his/her publicly funded health care

My dog chased a Coyote out of my backyard a summer or two ago. I didn't realize how big those things were. They're skinny as can be.... but just as tall as your average large dog.

John Boehner
As much as I hate to stick up for her, it is not entirely true according to factcheck.org. It was the sergeant in arms, not Pelosi, that requested the aircraft capable of a direct flight from DC to Cali. Also, it is worth noting that the Speaker of the House's use of the jet stems from the aftermath of 9/11 and was instituted for security reasons with the first one to use it the Republican Speaker at the time. I assume the reason some thought security was an issue is because the Speaker becomes President if anything happens to the President and VP. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_nancy_pelosi_order_up_a_200-seat.html

Pet Peeves!
Ahhhh.... this brings me to a pet peeve. When your 'co-pilot' honks your horn.... whether it be at another driver or to harrass some poor girl walking by. NOBODY touches my horn but me! (that didn't come out right...)

Ann Arbor: Developments and News
UM, hands down, has one of the best college campuses. Is Cousins Hall one of the dorms that forms a 3/4 circle around some athletic field, with a rec center on the opposite end of those fields? I spent a summer in Ann Arbor taking classes and stayed in whatever dorm I am thinking of.... nor sure if it was Cousins or not. Long time ago. Can't remember the exact year... but the architecture school still had the model for the front glass facade of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the design table.

I agree. I think we have already seen all the efforts Kasich is going to make before being sworn in.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Boy... where's tedolph when you need him? You're right about the parody exception. But I think it also falls under a 'prior art' (or whatever equivalent is used in this context) exception. Now, the NBA may have some internal rules/laws which apply, but I'm not sure they would be applicable to SI. Bottom line, the Cavs will do nothing about it, nor should they.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
No, it's not the Cavs' slogan. It was around long before the Cavs even existed. Suppose I started a pee-wee football team and adopted "winners never quit, and quitters never win" as my team's slogan. I could not sue somebody who subsequently used that slogan.

I don't think you can trademark the slogan for "the Three Musketeers"

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I didn't take my own advice. What can I say.... once you start typing on this issue, well..... Dear Governor Elect Kasich: Congratulations on your election to be the next Governor of our great state. I am taking the time to write in an attempt to hopefully persuade you to reconsider your stance on the 3C start up train, which would connect the three major economic centers in Ohio. I and many other young professionals here in the Cleveland area are in favor of this train and would use it for both business and pleasure. Simply put, your stance will only contribute to the growing "brain drain" in this state. Young professionals overwhelmingly support the train. Turning away federal money that will simply go to another state and reflect identically on my tax bill is very hard to comprehend. So is the purported basis of your decision, that being the $17 million yearly operating cost... or, put another way, $1.50 per resident each year.... or, put another way, less than half a cup of regular coffee from ‘Starbucks’ each year for each of your constituents. Further, that ‘cost’ does not consider the guarantee of the types of Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) which naturally follow such investments in public infrastructure. Please do not make Ohio the ‘sacrificial lamb’ in the GOP's efforts to 'derail' President Obama's passenger rail initiative. Please make the right choice for our State, regardless of the political consequences you may face within your own party, which at one time supported passenger rail (before President Obama’s announcement of his program to nurture and support HSR programs across the country). Please remember that it was a Republican Governor that initiated the studies which have led to the “3C” plan. I understand you to be a man who carefully balances the pro’s and con’s of each issue. I ask you to deliberate long and hard before further entrenching yourself on this issue. I also ask that you not further "dig you feet in" until you fully understand the consequences of your decision. The fact that you assumed the federal grant money could be “repurposed” for “other infrastructure projects” for which it was not designated, despite the fact that you yourself were a former congressman who should know otherwise, signals to me and many others who have looked beyond the political rhetoric that you do not have the requisite understanding of the issues involved to make an informed decision free of backroom politics and national party priorities. Thank you for your time and attention. Sincerely, A Native and Resident of Ohio

Just an FYI and totally IMO.... but informed and respectful critiques directed toward Kasich stand a snowball's chance in hell of making an impact. Nastygrams have no chance at all.
