  1. I'm not liking all this talk in this thread about moving out of Ohio. We are a swing state, folks. This is what happens. Every few years we have a meltdown of people thinking we are being taken over by rural folk who have no sense of statewide progress. Stay and fight the good fight. For the progress of the entire country, the last thing we need to do is consolidate the population of forward-thinking people on the coasts, thereby dilluting the overal political influence of that group over national policy.... such as a genuine HSR system. Take some pride in the fact that, at least here, you are on the front lines of such battles.
  2. Multiple articles and the letter from Secretary Lahood responding to Kasich say that he was asking to repurpose the funds for roads and freight rail. Thank you, all, for clearing that up for me. I was under the impression that he was killing this just to kill an "Obama program", not to repurpose the funds. No... you had it right. He is a former congressman. He knows, and always did know, that the funds cannot be repurposed. That request was pure subterfuge, designed to provide political cover for him and faux talking points to his supporters.
  3. "Easily"? No way...

David, c'mon. I mean, really..... how many times do you get to pull a right winger's hair and spank her on the arse? Compared to a left-wing nutjob woman, at least this girl has hair.
  5. Then you might want to consider a more politically stable state. Virginia, NC and that whole corridor is the "new" swing area..... because people like you keep moving there. Wait until the next presidential election and Viriginia is going to get swamped.
  6. Good thing we don't live in Haiti. Less bad thing we don't live in Haiti. Where is there a good government, in your subjective estimation?

    ^Right. Or the "celebrity list"
  8. Just because they pay their players doesn't make them a "pro" sports team ;)

^Is David D. on your "list" Doc?
  10. There's only two options. One being that he is stupid, which I really doubt. The other being that he was being disingenuous with the voters, which one would hope not to be that case. Either way, we're screwed.

Double major in History and Political Science from Greensboro College, some "doctorate" degree from CSU, and a masters from the streets.

Congrats! A Monday wedding and log cabin honeymoon. Way to be original, Boreas!
  13. ^It was meant to be sarcastic. I've edited the post.

    Which policies, specifically?
  15. I think they should be allowed to vote...
  16. They are called Akronites. (EDIT: sarcasm intended)

Thanks for reviving repressed memories. Now excuse me while I go read "Where the Red Fern Grows"

I know its the obvious choice, but I am still surprised that Alice in Wonderland (the old cartoon) was not on that list. Talk about pure evil. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is odd, indeed, for a kid's movie. I never realized how f'd up that movie was until I *started* to watch it with my kid last year. It got turned off.

^Now you might as well set one up for the LLM and the JSD and the PhD and the MD.

^There's some debate around that.... but I think a J.D. fits well enough, for the purposes of this poll, within the doctoral degree category.
  21. For Ohio, of course it is a higher priority. That doesn't stop us from having personal preferences, which I for one am more than happy to sacrafice for the good of the State as a whole. But if you were just to ask me cold turkey whether I would rather work towards having a train run through Cleveland that gets me to Cincy in 2.5 hours or one that gets me to Chicago in 2.5 hours, I think you know what the answer would be. Of course, I would support both and I realize that the federal funds cannot be repurposed for that route, so its kind of pointless to discuss at this point. BTW, the current service through Cleveland sucks. And what the H-E-DoubleHockeySticks is up with the poll in that cleveland.bomb article. I am not taking any of those options. The most popular (60%) answer so far is: The money should be used for another job-creating, infrastructure project in Ohio. :drunk:
  22. Allow me to further your understanding. FTFY.
  23. Honestly, PHS has the potential to be a premier residential district. It has good bones for numerous renovations and plenty of "space" for new builds. It's just a matter of building momentum.
  24. Yeah.... but an overhang might cut down on the shipping channel without actually altering the physical form of the river. The cost would be essentially zero.... whereas the cost of filling in the river and moving the bulkhead would be astronomical, I would have to assume. I don't see how they can justify the latter on a cost-benefit analysis. EDIT: Nevermind... the PD article says that the plan would be to extend the bulkhead into the river. It's a pipe dream if you ask me.
  25. I assume if you knew that the money can NOT be used for any other purpose in Ohio - not for highways, not for other rail projects more desirable to your personal preferences (which do indeed mirror mine), you would not side with Kasich?
