Question: Is what they are seeking to 'narrow the river' or 'narrow the shipping channel'? I would think that they could narrow the shipping channel without actually altering the actual river.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^I'm afraid it is "dirty money" to many of them. Anything that you can add the term "stimulus" to gets branded as that.

NFL: General News & Discussion
Congrats to Jason Garrett, the new coach of the Cowboy and Cleveland Heights native! I met him and his brother Judd, when their "non-famous" brother Jim was my coach in high school. Really nice family. Add another branch to the NEO coaching tree.

Back to the drawing board. FCE already tried to go this route when they were bidding on the CC/MM. Not going to happen.

Governor John Kasich
KJP nailed it. This has little to do with government spending and a lot to do with the 2012 Presidential race. Unfortunately, it appears that our Governor-elect (whom I believe has some aspirations of his own for 2012) has chosen to use our State as a sacrificial pawn in that game of backroom politics.

The Cleveland Canal.... I like the sound of that!

Urgent: Need to choose: Bridgeview Apts vs 668 (Euclid)
Check out the Alcazar in Cleveland Hts. It is near the Cedar-Fairmount neighborhood and should meet your criteria. Plus, I think they do short-term leases. It would be about a 10-15 minute drive to work. Using public transportation is an option if you work at Nela Park, but I don't know that I would recommend it. Nela Park is right on the border of East Cleveland and Cleveland Heights. EC is about as bad as it gets on the East side as it has nearly zero police presence.... so, just as a precaution, I would not recommend taking the bus down Euclid and walking up the hill to the campus. The Cleveland Heights side of Nela Park is not all peaches and ice cream, but it has a heavy police presence and they patrol into EC all the way down to Euclid Avenue, with a satelite station right on the border. If you end up Downtown and are using the freeway, I would recommend taking E 152nd all the way down to Noble Rd. A GPS device or Mapquest might tell you to take the Eddy Road exit, but the extra couple minutes using 152nd is probably worth it as you would pretty much skip over EC. Nela Park is completely fenced in and locked down tightly by security, so you have nothing to worry about there. One point of interest is the art collection at that place, particularly the Norman Rockwell paintings hanging around. Also, it may have the best Xmas lights display in the City. Oh yeah, there is one areas in Cleveland Heights that I generally tell people to stay away from.... well, actually two areas. The first is the triangle shaped neighborhood that is bordered by Mayfield on the south, Coventry on the west and Superior on the east. However, if you cross Mayfield or even rent in any of the buildings that are actually on Mayfield, you are fine. Just try to stay away from the duplexes on those side streets and the line of apartment buildings on Superior. The other neighborhood is right by where you are going to work. Basically, anything north of Yellowstone, off of Noble. It's just too close to the EC border for there not to be some overflow. Good luck and welcome. Feel free to come back with more specific questions about particular properties, streets, neighborhoods.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
You should consider 'satelite' rallies in Cleveland and Cincy.

And 49% of the 48% of registered voters who bothered to perform their civic duty, voted for a guy who thinks he has the unilateral, unchecked power to decide what's best for our state.

It has to be more than parking. I talked to a few people in the know during the time when this site was being considered for the CC/MM and they all said that the site is an engineering nightmare for any large scale structure.

Governor John Kasich
Only my avatar. And you may have overlooked it, but Ohio never really recovered from the first Bush era recession. Our standing, comparitavely to other states, has actually improved since the onset of the latest recession.

Governor John Kasich
The last time we had a Republican Governor. A few years back.

Governor John Kasich
When has the GOP ever significantly slashed spending? Sure, they talk a lot about it... but can anyone cite an example of when it was actually done in a significant manner?

FCE likes this idea!

Governor John Kasich
I can't blame him for the letter to Strickland if that is how he honestly feels. But the letter to Obama is politicking at its worst. He is simply positioning himself for what will surely be a 'day late, dollar short' onslaught by the Ohio media when the funds are repurposed to make some booming state that much better of a place to live.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
HBO's new show "Boarwalk Empire" had a few Cleveland references last night when covering the topic of Warren Harding's rise to the Republican nomination. They mention "those fast-money guys in Cleveland" who were behind Harding and how smart they were, politically. I assumed they meant Rockefeller, etc.

What is your favorite Ohio pro sports team???
^^Makes sense. Wade is Dorothy, Lebron is Blanche, and Bosh is Rose. Which means that Pat Riley has to play the role of Sophia.

What effect has the economy had on you?
So far.... 34 votes for "major improvement", "better" and "about the same"... compared to 4 votes for "worse" or "economic meltdown". Interesting.

^Very little can get done without the House. Congress controls 'the purse.' Just like HSR, they won't let energy independence become a signature issue of the current administration. ^^Here's Obama's official statement and it doesn't mention reducing emissions at all.... in fact, it pretty much mirrors your outline: "Each of us has a part to play in a new future that will benefit all of us. As we recover from this recession, the transition to clean energy has the potential to grow our economy and create millions of jobs -– but only if we accelerate that transition. Only if we seize the moment. And only if we rally together and act as one nation –- workers and entrepreneurs; scientists and citizens; the public and private sectors." Maybe if he did a 180 and came out against alternative energy? That might do the trick.

Weather
Seems like it was one of those true "lake-effect" storms. The North end of Euclid Creek Reservation did not have a drop of snow.... but the South end had a few inches. Somebody can probably explain this better to me, but lake-effect snow jumps over the areas immediately abbuting the lake. Pretty much gone now and it wasn't the type of snow I was hoping for anyways. Mostly slush.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
I would not hold out much hope for continuing any momentum built on this front. The shift in political climate is going to put wind power and other alternative energy measures on the backburner..... at least for the next 2 years.

Thanks. Sounds like they have a specific design in mind already for the casino.
