2010 Gubernatorial Election
^By barely 1,000 votes.... and I am SURE that the difference was more than accounted for by Kasich votes in the rural areas in Montgomery County.

Your First Urban Ohio Post
Remember it well. It was a rant in the Residency Thread in typical Hts44121 fashion. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,4553.120.html I probably had been lurking for about a year, but that was my first post. To which, MTS snarkily replied - And I responded with -

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
I believe what you are referencing is the public space south of Marginal and north of the Route 2 exit ramp at E. 9th. First, it is a rather small lot (or at least really thin) and construction may be cost-prohibitive and/or legally precluded due to its proximity to the shoreway (construction usually is not "built up to highway"). We have discussed possible projects for the land immiedately just accross Marginal to the north, but nothing for specific parcel you are linking us to, I believe.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
I took a peak today. They are plugging along pretty fast. Excuse my lack of terminology, but the steel pole looking thingies in the pictures above are now wrapped in concrete and the framing has progresssed onto E. 115. Keep in mind that the first phase will only take up the easter half of the parcel between E. 115 and Ford. The site accross Euclid which will mirror its footprint also appears to be clear and ready for work... although I believe they are just using it as a staging area at the moment. On another note, it looked as if someone was figuring out how to dismantle that sculpture on the SE corner of Mayfield/Euclid where the MOCA building will go. She was up on a ladder taking notes and measurements. What I did was headed down Euclid from downtown and I must say that the construction activity on that route is noticeable. Surely, I do not agree with all the projects, but it is nice to see nonetheless. And I'm talking "active" construction :)

What effect has the economy had on you?
I have a relatively recession proof job. Actually, business picks up a bit during a recession. The downside is that I couldn't sell my house if I wanted to and not take a loss. When I bought it, I was thinking I would only own it for about 5 years. I am at 7 years now, but don't see a need for an upgrade, so no biggie. I think new college grads might have it the worst with this recession. I have seen a lot of legitimately "over-qualified" applications come accross my desk in the past year or so. My wife wants to switch jobs and go back to full-time employment. In the past 6 months, she has been submitting applications and has received two offers from the Clinic, one from UH, one from Key Bank and two from smaller businesses. We just haven't found the right fit for her, but it shows that all hope is not lost. I think she has received an offer for every job but one she has interviewed for. I wasn't going to be the one to nitpick.... but, yeah And, MTS, the Recession thread has a heavy "lean" to it. Thoughtful discussion, but a lean nonetheless. Follow the announcements in the news of the economy's status. If it is looking doomy and gloomy any given day, it gets posted. If the numbers/projections are good, it doesn't for the most part (today appears to be an exception).

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I would like to think that you could appeal to Kasich's "conservative values".... but I highly doubt that is the issue. It's a "looking for Waterloo" issue, not a "conservative values" one.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Thanks for the update. Question - why so long for the design process of the Mayfield Rd. station? Will it be dragged out until final plans are made for the adjacent parking lot?

I don't think I would include Minneapolis in the "rust belt"..... it doesn't have some of the same challenges that Cleveland, Buffalo, Detroit, etc. have to overcome. Pittsburgh is more a model city for the rust belt.... although I firmly believe that a good chunk of its recent success is somewhat gilded.- US Economy: News & Discussion

^Tell that to business American executives who make the decisions on where HQs/offices are located: (from the above article) The part of the ranking that Ohio doesn’t do nearly as well on is based in part on surveys of corporate site-selection executives . The executives like a highly skilled work force, beneficial state and local tax schemes and top-tier transportation infrastructure. They also like warm weather. Call it the snowball effect. Fact is that cold-weather cities can certainly thrive, but it is also certainly not an assett you use to sell the region. And the weather here in Cleveland, at least, goes beyond the cold. Call it the price of living on the North Coast, I guess. The south used to be considered inhabitable for many prior to A/C. Having been dumb enough to rent a house in NC without central air, I can understand why. Now, the south is hardly considered the muggy, swampland it was back in the day and the weather is definitely considered an assett to most, though surely not all. So... I don't think our weather has a crippling effect on our economy, but I stand by my statement which was solely in response to what JOhio said. Ahem, Mr. Kasich..... top-tier transportation infrastructure- Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion

Cleveland Heights. This by monticello. Noble and Roanoke to be exact. Growing up for me, that was the neighborhood corner/candy store (1970's/80's style mini-mart) in the front half. Then it had a diner bar (no tables) in the back straight out of that famous Norman Rockwell painting of the runaway kid and the police officer. Nothing special on the menu, but I remember the shakes being popular. I can't seem to remember the name, though. Sounds like Ruck-a-sins. That space has been through so many changes since then, with a video store probably holding the longest tenancy. The bakery/cafe in the picture seems like it has settled in. Too bad CVS gobbled up 4x the space Revco used and ripped out half that strip.- 2010 Gubernatorial Election

^^^Geauga is normally uber-conservative. They don't call it "God's Country" for nothing. Medina, as it grows, will probably mirror the political affiliations of the outer-ring westside suburbs which it borders and which are certainly conservative but not fire engine red. Lake is a bit of a surprise, but there are several reasons why this election cycle, that particular county voted against the incumbents, albeit not by a wide margin.- Guess the neighborhood
