Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
There is normally a strike method used. A listing of arbitrators is given to both parties and/or contained in the CBA. The parties then take turns striking the names until a final selection is made. I also would warn people against making judgments based solely on the facts as reported by the PD. Unless you have read the transcripts and seen the exhibits used at the hearing, you don't have a full picture and can't possibly make a determination on whether sufficient cause was presented to warrant termination as opposed to some other significant form of discipline.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Completely and utterly amazing. This is one of those magic articles that conjures up every human emotion imaginable for the reader....it's funny, it's terrifying but it's mostly sad. This sentence is my favorite: In a blistering dissent, Judge Timothy McCormack blasted the arbitrator's decision as "a stagnant pool of rancid, stenchful waste." #JudicialEndorsementsMatter. Ugh. You all are completely wrong on this one. Both the common pleas court's and the court of appeals' decisions were correct and the rationale of McCormack's dissent is contrary to law. If one of the other appellate judges had joined with him, the Ohio Supreme Court would have almost certainly reversed that ruling. The DECISION to return this cop to work was rendered by the arbitrator in a FINAL and BINDING arbitration. Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution, which is highly encouraged in our legal system. It is not intended to be an exhibition game. You don't get to "appeal" an arbitration decision. What you can do is file an application to vacate the decision. To grant such an application, which is exceedingly rare, the judges can't simply determine that they would've reached a different result. The arbitrator could even misapply the law and, in Ohio, the courts can't vacate the decision. Only when the arbitrator is found to have clearly exceeded his authority under the contract can the courts vacate the decision. So knock the arbitrator and his decision all you want. But don't pretend that these judges were allowed to conduct a de novo review of the decision and supplant it with one of their own. If that were the case, people would never agree to arbitrate disputes and the court dockets would be even more crowded than they are now.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
IMO, there is no disputing that QB is the most impactful position in all of sports. And no one can dispute that "the Browns" have proven they can bust any pick. But who are "the Browns"? None of the decisions makers from any of those picks remain. Unless you are highly superstitious and believe that some curse transferred from Farmer to the new regime, taking that approach is nonsensical. I am not currently in the camp of folks advocating for them taking a QB at #2 no matter what. Three key words there at the end of that sentence. That is because I do not believe any of the QBs available in THIS draft can improve the team more than some 15-20 (at a minimum) other prospects available in this draft. I don't think I have read one comment from anyone suggesting that the Browns should not draft a QB who is worthy of the #2 pick. No one is arguing that. There is simply a difference of opinion on the prospects available. I would note that I don't think anyone here or any experts believes that Wentz or Goff is one of the top 3 prospects in this draft, even with the inflated consideration QBs are given.

If I was in charge, I would be looking to sign Chris Ivory or one of the other several FA running backs on the market. There are some good ones out there. As for QB, I take Goff or Wentz if I truly believe they are worthy of a top 5 pick, but I wouldn't reach for one of them simply because I thought no one is going to buy Browns tix if I don't draft one of them. Last thing we need is to bust on yet another QB in the first round, passing up future perennial pro-bowlers .

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I'm finally seeing a few mock drafts which have the Browns taking one of the top two players in lieu of the one of the top two QBs. Seems like Ramsey is the consensus pick using that philosophy.

^ I like Ramsey, but he seems to play a little high. That's not an easy habit to break and it won't work so well in the NFL

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Normally, there is a clear separation as to who the best QB is, despite all the media buzz over that second guy (Leaf, RGIII, etc). I don't think that is the case this year. You'd be hard pressed to find a credible scout who thinks either QB is the best prospect in this draft. My point still stands un-refuted. No-brainer franchise QBs are taken 1st overall every time. No QB taken 2nd overall has ever won a Super Bowl, and McNabb is the only arguable success story since Archie Manning.

3rd round pick for arguably the best WR in the league? Not likely

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Couch did do better than he gets credit for. He was handcuffed with a crappy supporting cast. Who knows how good he might've been I am starting to slightly warm up to the idea of taking Wentz. He might be worth the risk. But only if we fill some major gaps via free agency

Not using any of our tags this year. Looks like Gipson, Mack, Schwartz, and Benjamin will all get to test the market. I doubt we bring back more than two of those guys, which is a shame because all are players we drafted (or signed undrafted right out of college) who turned out to be pretty good.

I notice that Love plays best early in the game. I'm wondering if stamina is an issue with him. He played the most minutes out of everyone last night at over 40. He seems to be fatigued by the fourth quarter.

Or we draft Goff or Wentz, they turn out to be a bust like about half (if not more) of 1st round QBs and we go yet another year without a franchise QB. In fact, in that scenario, we are likely to go another three years without a franchise QB. To be clear, if the brass is convinced either of those two are worthy of the #2 overall pick, by all means, take 'em. But don't reach. Don't take the 35th best player in the draft with the 2nd overall pick. When is the last time we picked that high? If I'm not mistaken, as bad as we've been, we've only had a top 2 pick twice since we returned (Couch and Brown). We had the 3rd pick a few times (Edwards, Richardson) and the 4th pick (Warren).

Stephen A. Smith and reporting should never be used in the same sentence.

Everyone is talking about the Warriors.... or, more specifically, Steph Curry. Heat checks take Steph Currys. The man sold his soul. I am convinced of that. He is shooting 50% on shots between 28 and 50 feet. No small sample either. It is over 70 shots for the season.

I do too..... but I also think that Hue feels he can make any decent prospect into a quality NFL QB. He has a bit of an ego in that regard, perhaps rightfully so. I'm just not liking the way this draft is shaking out. I feel some of the better teams are going to get great players due to the de-valuing of certain positions and/or overemphasis on combine testing. Can you imagine Seattle walking out of here with either Zeke Elliot or Derrick Henry to replace BeastMode? I can't see the Ravens passing up on Bosa. They have some experience in drafting successful college DE's who dropped in the draft after running a 4.8 at the combine...... Terrell Suggs. Overall, just not a great year to be picking in the top 3. I don't feel like there is much separation between the top 5, or even top 15, prospects, and a few of those guys will drop lower than 15 due to modern trends in drafting.

There are a few potential candidates, but neither are worthy of a top 5 pick. If they were then some team would be trying to leap frog us to take them. Name the last QB selected #2 overall who was a success. To make it even tougher, name the last QB drafted #2 overall in a draft in which another QB was not selected #1 overall. We need a franchise QB, but not as much as we need to be certain we don't bust yet another top pick. Plenty of teams have went from bottom to top of the league recently without selecting a QB in the top 10. Bengals, Seahawks, Chiefs, Arizona, Saints, etc.

It's not unprecedented. Steve McNair was an FCS player and picked 3rd in the draft. I've now had a chance to study some film and am still underwhelmed by this QB class. Has anyone found a big board with a QB in the top 20?

Cincinnati: Looking for information on Former Cheviot Police Officers?
Welcome to UO. Have you tried submitting a public records request? Perhaps you could request documentation showing the police department rosters from 1969 to 1989. I am not sure they would have a specific roster. But they might have maintained seniority lists, promotional lists, shift schedules, or any number of documents reflecting the membership during the years in question. Try that.

I assume GS didn't break the bank to sign Andy. What team couldn't use another serviceable 7 footer. If nothing else, they can send him in against the Clippers to foul DeAndre Jordon 6 times.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I don't understand the question. I was simply pointing out that there are 240 minutes to be distributed in an NBA game. Or, more to the point, there are 96 minutes for the 4/5 positions. TT, KLove, and Timo all play those positions and only those positions, plus LeBron and/or RJeff slides to the 4 when we go small, which is at least 10 minutes a game, so really there are only about 86 minutes to distribute between Love, TT, Timo, and Frye. I could see Frye, absent injury to one of our Bigs, getting 5-10 minutes in the regular rotation, but not much more than that. That's not ideal for a shooter who needs to maintain a rhythm to be effective. All of that leads me to my original theory that he is more an insurance policy than anything else.... and given our style of play which requires at least one big man who can shoot, he is a very good insurance policy. When we lost KLove last year in the playoffs, our opponents were more free to collapse the driving lanes and clog the paint.

Going smaller doesn't help if you get slower. Who does Frye guard in that GS "lineup of death"? Green? He would get murdered. I actually think the key to beating GS is staying big. You can't beat them at their own game. The two games we won in that series were when we bullied them on the inside.
