  1. ^Do they teach the art of the subtle jab in Cincy's public schools? You all seem to have a inexplicable talent for it.

Voinovich earned his "moderate" label due to his willingness to break from party lines, regardless of the pressure not to do so. He was not "moderate" on every issue, for sure, but I truly believe that he made up his own mind on each issue and did what he thought was best. I certainly didn't agree with him on several issues, but I appreciated his courage.
  3. ^Write to your President. All he has to do is retract his glowing endorsement for passenger rail and all these gubernatorial candidates will react accordingly. A little political reverse psychology. As long as it can be forever remembered as an Obama initiative, they will not be 'on board.' shs96, I have been looking for that political group since I reached the age of majority and was able to vote. It doesn't exist. On this issue, what needs to be done is to convince the 'skeptics' that building a HSR system here in Ohio, or any other state, is indeed the fiscally responsible thing to do.

Not among the age group (18-34) we need to focus on right now for the good of our state. It is a quite popular idea with them from the last poll I saw - something like 3 in 4 were in favor of the 3C

Getting awfully defensive there Seth :)
  6. That kind of looks like what they did with the Euclid side of the law school. I really liked what that project did for the interaction of the law building with Euclid.
  7. It's not the 'proponents' of the mosque whose emotions are being inflamed by the misrepresentation.
  8. Calling it the "Ground Zero Mosque" seems to inflame the prevalent irrational and purely emotional reactions to the project. As a descriptor it was fine, but now it is just a means of propoganda from one side of the debate or the other.
  9. What do you think, Ram? Is it Ground Zero in YOUR, NY state of mind, opinion?
  10. From the E4th thread: Agreed. The area seems to have lost momentum. I thought RS was just moving to a bigger location in the GS neighborhood.
  11. It looks like a giant wafer.
  12. Very, very high-paying jobs in downtown Cleveland and the necessary support staff. The actual construction activities cannot be moved to Cleveland, but high-level management can have there principal offices here.

    FINALLY.... someone gets it! http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/10/peyton_hillis_on_carrying_the.html
  14. From what I can tell, NG announced it was going to close down its Avondale shipyard. CS was looking for somewhere to build its oilers and made a bid. NG respondend in a way that clearly sent the message that it would consider selling its entire fleet without seeming desperate. Just jockeying for position in the bargaining process, I assume.
  15. ^It goes into that in the article posted.
  16. All I remember is "high-tech meeting rooms" being the proposed use. I don't recall the specifics.
  17. IIRC, the multiple systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) either have to rebuilt with the CC/MM or totally separated. Other than that, I believe they are planning to leave it "as is"

The opponents we lost to... by a combined 12 points... are collectively 8-2.
  19. ^^Did that arrive today? I think it was last week that I saw a four or five crane operation down at the port. It was the biggest I could remember.
  20. Like I have been saying, the means/rationale are irrelevant... so long as your 'end result' conclusion on every single issue falls in line.
  21. While riding this weekend, I noticed that the buildings on the NE corner of Brainard and Mayfield (right next to Church of St. Clare) had been demolished. Did an internet search and it appears that a Key Bank branch will be built there. Nothing to get excited about. Just an FYI in case anyone was curious.
  22. They don't have the money left over in the budget to buy PA from the City, let alone complete the necessary repairs to the electrical and re-design the interior. Maybe down the road (quite a bit), but PA is "out" for now. Count me as one who was never crazy about re-purposing our PA.

^Scrabble has already started to distance himself.
  24. I'd take one TT over 1,000 mediocre buildings all day, every day.
  25. Yeah, I'm not sure how they are defininig "neighborhood".... I suppose "Scoville" is within "Central"? Anyway, I don't disagree that this is a problem area (not so familiar with the other area on the list). I would bet that a lot of the crime data they are relying upon occur on weekend nights when large crowds treat the gas stations on the corner of 55th and Woodland as some kind of freak-nik. No worries though, Maingate Marketplace will rescue the neighborhood ;)... either that or it will be demolished by Opportunity Corridor and any spin-offs.
