  1. No, I don't realize that. Just like you don't realize that there are also a lot of other people, a larger chunk than the Orthodox Jews, who live here but use private schools because the local public schools are not a viable option for them. Sure the schools are a "viable" option. They just choose to seek "excellence" for their children, which admittedly CH-UH does not have in spades. Nothing wrong with that. If money was not an issue, I would send my kids to the best school money could buy. That said, I am a CH-UH grad with a graduate degree, full-time job, family, house, cars. And, personally, while my education might not have been all white picket fences, I think I am a better, more well rounded person with that experience.
  2. Good job, Windy. I will end my subscription to the PD if they bring back Branson Wright as the Cavs' beat reporter.

That's four games that we have taken the fight to our opponent and were clearly the more physical football team. Really, 9-10 games if you go back to last season. Browns football has finally returned. The system is there. Now, we just have to consistently execute and not shoot ourselves in the foot (like we almost did today) and lose to teams that we outplay.
  4. Right... as if the percentage of residents holding "college degrees" determines how "brainy" the area is. I could maybe see if the ranking relied on post-graduate degrees, but just about anyone can get a 4-year degree nowadays. Just need the $$.
  5. Even Times Square has a McDonald's...
  6. OK. We can compromise and call it "a great start"

That's all I was saying. Except I would say that Race certainly was a factor in how "certain individuals" (white AND black) reacted. But the size of that group and whatever influence it had would not have made a noticeable difference if absent. This report at least has some statistics behind it - http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/LeBron-James-says-race-was-a-factor-in-backlash-;_ylt=AnJZ4MrZshUwJKMzw3gYgxy8vLYF?urn=nba-273678

The right side of the line is not that bad at run blocking. Pass blocking, they are terrible. Hopefully, with Pashos taking over for St. Clair, that is going to start changing (although it may subtract from the run blocking). The line played the best last year with Fraley at guard and Womack at tackle on the right side. Maybe when Lavou (sp?) is healthy, we can rotate between Pashos and Pork Chop at RT.
  9. I think the source of the spending proposal determines the reaction. Strickland might need to resort to reverse psychology at this point.

I have been trying to convince my buddies of this since the end of last year. The kid is a stud. Demontri Dawson and Nick Mangold wrapped into one. He has the power to neutralize a mammoth like Haloti Ngata and the speed to get out in front of Vickers and whoever is running behind him on a sweep, all while having to focus on his first priority of a clean snap.
  11. Since when did Panera change its business model?
  12. Agreed with your overall point... but is this ^ true? I have never heard that we were the highest taxed region in the "country". Were you quoting something?
  13. ^Agreed... unfortunately. However, look at it this way; allow the national chains to burn the start up money figuring our what does and does not work in this developement. Some will hit, some will miss. At least then the locals will have some market research to work with in determining whether they want to take a shot.
  14. Well... if they are going to put subsidized housing on Euclid Avenue, I suppose around 75th is the best spot. I have more faith in Euclid growing out (over a long period of time) from CSU towards 55th and from the Clinic through UC, than I do for the area between 55th and and the Clinic.

Sigh... But maybe you are right, TBideon. Racism is over... done. It couldn't have possibly played "a" factor in the way any single individual in this entire country, basketball fan or not, reacted to "The Decision" and the way he handled things during the free agency process. I suppose Clevelander17's article about black protectionism was just drivel. In hopes of calming you down, allow me to apologize for the offense you obviously took. I would like to clarify (again) that I was simply commenting on the broadness of his statement.... at least what was posted (I did not watch the interview). Something can be a factor, yet only a minuscule or infinitesimal one. That's all I was saying. The level of uproar would not be noticeably different.
  16. I'm going to have to call in sick tomorrow.

Like I said above, there is a big difference between saying that race was THE factor and race was A factor. Can anyone legitimately deny that race played NO factor in how people responded to the decision?... And before you start making assumptions, I (not James) am in no way limiting that type of reaction (i.e., racially motivated) to white people (see the article that Clevelander17 posted above). He would have been despised in Cleveland no matter what race he was.... but by whom and to what degree, race probably was "a factor" (e.g. Mike Trivissomo's and many of his listeners' reactions, I GUARANTEE YOU, would have been very different if LeBron was not black)
  18. See the "while not related to this thread" comment. He means the Administration building which is being built accross the street from the actual hospital. The Admin offices are being moved from Brecksville to UC when construction is finished.

What I said is that it is the "wedge issue"... Both candidates are all for fixing the economy, improving the job market, fixing the budget, and any other platitude you can think of. The 3-C is a point of definitive divide... hence, why it is has gotten so much press during the campaign. Just google "3-C and Kasich" and see how many hits you get.
  20. ^Rural Ohio - from largely rural swaths like SE Ohio, to slivers like Geauga County here in NEO - also keep the balance. I wouldn't say that there is THAT big of a difference between Cincy proper and Cleveland proper in terms of political affiliation (could be wrong though). Cleveland is probably more liberal, but not as much as people like to paint it as. The bigger difference, IMO, would come into play when the metros are considered and is enlarged when the regions are compared (NEO vs. SWO).

If that is an attempt at image repair, it will backfire. However, given the broadness of the statement, can you really disagree? "A factor".... "at times." Was there some fan out there who said "that damn $&$^#^"?... of course. Was it a significant factor that would have made a noticeable difference if absent?... of course not. I give you Brett Farvre as proof.
  22. It was decided long ago that the RRHOF would not be limited to "Rock and Roll" bands. Just look at the list of the first few inductee groups and you will find that it includes Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, The Tempatations, and Stevie Wonder. Also inducted are Bob Marley, Al Green, The Jackson 5, Parliament, The O'Jays, EW&F, Grandmaster Flash, and Run DMC. Inductees also include pure personalities such as Alan Freed. With the 25 year rule, you can expect more and more nominees like LL Cool J.
  23. ^As he should be. He was one of the first to bridge a gap between rock and rap. I am not sure he should get in, but certainly worthy of a look. He would also raise the question on whether his influence over the general culture (fashion, acting, etc), apart from his music, should play any role in the analysis.
