Racial Distribution Maps of Ohio's Cities
Appear to be. Remember, though, that Cleveland's MSA is half the size of the MSAs of Cincy and CBus in terms of square mileage.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Rightfully or wrongfully, I believe there is a certain stigma that comes along with a bus ride. I can't imagine that a bus could possibly attract the same clientele that a train does. I think many people who would use the 3-C, believe that a bus ride is beneath them. For those opposed to the 3-C, I have to ask when was the last time you were on a train? Give it a shot before you solidify your opinion. Take the kids/family on a train ride (enjoy the Cuyahoga Scenic Railway if you live in NEO) and see for yourself how it feels, the options you have while in route, etc.

Racial Distribution Maps of Ohio's Cities
Outside of the near west side of Cleveland (including Lakewood) and the inner ring east side suburbs, Cleveland definitely is racially segregated. But I would venture to guess that those two areas are as diverse as any in the State or the entire midwest, and they are sizeable areas. And it is not just that those general areas can show diversity on a raw statistical breakdown, the individual neighborhoods and streets are very diverse. I'd say my street in the east side inner ring is about 50% white, 40% black and 10% Asian, which would be pretty much representative of the overall neighborhood. The Asian population is rather new, but booming (mostly Indian), so I expect to see a bit more green next time these maps are done

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Hmmmmm... I think there is room for both. IMO, WHD restaraunts have more to fear from the continued expansion of E 4th than they do from the continued operation of dance clubs in the WHD.

^That attitude will doom the WHD a lot faster than binge drinking Frat boys and loitering teens ever will.

John Boehner
^Scrabble is being sly, not blind. It takes a minute to pick up on his style. I believe what he is implying is that Boehner is good for the Democrats and will help Obama get re-elected in 2012. Whether his reasoning being that Boehner will make such a fool of himself as Speaker and further weaken the political climate, or that he will charge in there and clean things up so the climate is stable for Obama's reelection (a la Clinton in 1996), I do not know. Knowing him, he may just be trying to cover all his bases with his intentional vagueness.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I'm not gonna hate on him if the salary bump is significant, but I wonder if this is the best long-term plan for Windy. He could stay at the PD for as long as he wants. This ESPN-Miami thing may only last until James decides to take his talents elsewhere. BTW, I assume you are referring to Wine'N'Gold (or something like that) on realcavsfans, Triumph. If it is him/her, it probably has some legs to it. Several people thought he WAS Windy.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I enjoyed that game. Very physical. Definitely not reminiscent of Ravens-Browns games of the past where the Ravens would essentially knock our guys all over the field. I would say we got the better of them in the physicality department yesterday. It's almost amazing how easily we could (and, quite frankly, SHOULD) be 3-0 right now. Not one of these teams has clearly outplayed us and we had leads in each of the fourth quarters. Eric Wright was absolutely embarrassing yesterday. He was getting beat like he stole something all afternoon. The Ravens offense basically boiled down to - line up and find a way to get Boldin on Eric Wright... or at least throw to whomever E Wright was covering. He got beat for 3 touchdowns and nearly every crucial 3rd down conversion the Ravens had yesterday. But I am not ready to give up on him yet. A few were disgraceful, but other completions he literally JUST missed batting the ball away. All of Flaco's passes against him were put on the money, pretty much. Let's see how he bounces back as he was one of our better defenders the previous few weeks and during the preseason. BTW, when was the last time a RB went for 150 yds against the Ravens' defense? Prior to yesterday, I believe they had only given up 3 100 yd rushers in the past 50-something games. Bottom line - if Baltimore needs that kind of game from Flaco to beat us, we are a helluva lot better than the team that went to Baltimore for game 3 last season and limped out of there with a 34-3 loss.

Do I just have bad luck going through Columbus? During the two trip I made to Cincy last year, I definitely hit some delays, especially south of Downtown CBus.

Thanks for the update Hoot. I think some people would be amazed how much a confident stride can do for you in these types of situations. Bow your head, slouch your shoulders, and cross the street.... well, you might as well put a bullseye on your back for the bullies/thugs.

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
^I think everyone agrees on that. The question then becomes how can we legally do so. We should be able to determine our options without much difficulty or allow a court to do so. The tougher and more sensitive issue will arise when we are aware of the legal options and then start making policy decisions as far as what options to exercise and how.

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Here's the 'easiest' solution - no black people allowed in the WHD. It will take away any racial tension and fears. It will eliminate the undesirable underage crowd currently causing havoc. It would have prevented the fiasco that followed the "executives-in-training" story. Time to stop 'sugarcoating' it, right? Can anybody deny that such a rule would solve the issues presented? It's the easiest way from point A to point B. So... why not? Perhaps because it is not a realistic solution. You can't ban black people. You can't ban hip-hop music in these clubs, either. They are private establishments. And let's not sugarcoat this fact either, Lust is hardly the only club on West 6th that plays hip-hop music. Nearly all of them do, so that complaint really is a bit of a red herring. Personally, I try to be pragmatic when analyzing these types of problems. I believe everyone acknowledges there is a problem. I think the general consensus is the problem exists, or at least to such a noticeable point, due to the loitering of underage kids (especially if the estimate in the PD article of 200-300 at a time is accurate). Let's see what we can do about that FIRST before we take drastic action that will put us in the national spotlight for all the wrong reasons. There are always two questions that must be asked when faced with this type of problem. (1) What can we do?; and (2) What should we do? They are separate questions, but the options for #2 are limited by the options presented in the answer to #1. For those that want to close down Lust, take away its liquor license, etc., you have to ask the question of whether that is even a viable option at this point. The City cannot do so arbitrarily. There is a whole process that must be satisfied for the property to be declared a nuisance under Ohio law. Sorry... dang due process.

Racial Distribution Maps of Ohio's Cities
Agreed. Cleveland's 'emerald necklace' and the Cuyahoga Valley really stand out when the population is seen in this format. For those not familiar with the geography, that big gap right down the middle of Cleveland's map is the Cuyahoga River's valley. The Cuyahoga dumps into Lake Erie on the western border of Downtown and winds down south towards Akron. The valley is heavy industry in the City and then becomes what I believe is the only national park in the State, 50 sq miles of some of nature reservation. The emerald necklace is a system of metroparks (also nature reservations) which surrounds the City, based around other rivers like Rocky River (on the west) and the Chagrin River (on the east).

^It's his big, shiny wedge issue and ties in perfectly to present day right wing sentiment. Obama is a proponent of rail development. 'Nuff said.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^Probably a bit of both. The current 3rd District station is in UC. The new one will be in MidTown. The demolition of the old station will open up a lot for development of a proposed technology center in UC.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Dear Kasich campaign: (1) what is "wrong" about the current plan?; and (more importantly) (2) how can we do it "right" in a way that you and your party will actually vote in favor of rail development? this is what they might say: prove there is demand, involve the people in locating the stations, make it fast and make it affordable. it's better not to do it than to do it wrong OK. That makes sense. The service must be bettered and the cost must be lowered. So it is similar to Kasich's goal of reducing the deficit and cutting revenue... errr... taxes (sorry, I forgot to look at my 'hand' notes)
