  1. You could also consider taking the Healthline (our new BRT system) down Euclid Ave. to University Circle. Keep in mind that the art museam is free. You can stroll from there up into Little Italy. Walking round trip from the intersection Euclid/Mayfield to the Coventry neighborhood in Cleveland Heights is probably right within your range. But try this route - take the Healthline from downtown to the Martin Luther King Dr. stop. Briefly head east on Euclid and make a left on East Blvd. Left on Wade Oval Dr. Right to get back on East Blvd. Veer left onto Ford Dr. Cross over Euclid and Ford Dr. becomes Mayfield Rd. Take Mayfield into Little Italy and poke around the main strip if you like. Take a right on Murray Hill. Right on Adelbert Rd. and you will eventually end up on Euclid about where you started. Probably right around 3-4 miles I would think. The route will take you right by Wade Lagoon, Cleveland Museam of Art, Severance Hall, Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Museam of Natural History, Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland Institute of Music, the Botanical Garden, the Glidden House, Gehry's Peter B. Lewis building, the future sites of our Museam of Contemporary Art and the Uptown mixed use development, right through the heart of the Little Italy neighborhood and, finally, a glimpse of the University Hospitals campus.

"Reduce spending so we can start reducing taxes" That's what I would describe as 'subtle honesty'.... honesty nonetheless

That's a complex question. The General Assembly does control the funding after all and it is political suicide for a Governor to enter office acting like a King with unilateral authority. As for appointments, he/she certainly does have wide discretion with the power of appointment, but not necessarily discretion in whether to appoint. For instance, he can appoint board members for, say, the State Employment Relations Board who are sympathetic to his goals for labor relations with State employees. However, he does not possess the power to do away with the SERB, change its composition, or re-define SERB's duties. And if SERB does not carry out those duties, in deference to the Governor's wishes, then a court of law can order SERB to comply with the law as provided by the General Assembly. Then, of course, there is the veto power. He can use that power to place his own check on the General Assembly I'm not sure what it takes in Ohio to override a gubernatorial veto. Regardless, that can really only stiffle growth. If he wants to actually reduce the size of government, and not merely keep it in check, the veto trick won't work. I am not sure that he is differentiating between those two notions during his campaign but there certainly is a substantial difference. Sure, he can veto every bill that crosses his desk which would expand government beyond the status quo. He would risk alienating the legislative branch, but he could do it and take the risk that his veto won't be overridden. But to substantially reduce the size and/or role of government, he is absolutely going to need the backing of the General Assembly. So... I guess the question becomes whether Kasich, when he says he stands for less government, means that he will not approve of any further growth or whether it means that he will pro-actively seek to reduce the size of government. If its the former, I wish him good luck. If it is the latter, I want to hear his specific ideas (even if he can not guarantee their implementation).
  4. Agreed.... I just don't think that is the particular racket which would make it all unprofitable. Not even close. But... the operation mentioned in the article might be dissimilar from the ones I have heard about in the past. The operation I was referring to may be open after hours but that would hardly be its draw.
  5. Legacy probably also has a lot of visitors that aren't there to shop.
  6. I think the public school kids seem to flock together. My fellow CH-UH alumns, those who went to college, seemed to either tred to OSU or OU. A LOT of my friends went to OU, but that might have just been a follow the crowd type deal. The elite students went to elite colleges such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, etc. We had a alot of athletes that went to play in the MAC wherever they got offers. Those on my football team that didn't get D-1 offers, sort of spread out. I went to a small school in NC (Greensboro College). Others went to schools such as Ashland, Hiram, Thiel, ONU, Wittenberg, etc. Then, there were the kids who went to the traditional black colleges, Howard seeming like the most popular among people I knew. I also attended University School my freshman year and kept in touch with some of my classmates even after I transferred back into CH-UH. The disbursement of those students seemed much wider. They really seemed all over the place, ending up at schools like UCLA, Fla St., Georgetown, the Ivies, and, yes, Miami (of course, 'Preppers' tend to like preppy schools I guess)
  7. I'm surprised to hear that Legacy Village is merely breaking even. I can't imagine what kind of traffic it would have to generate to actually turn a profit. Steelyard, I presume, has an advantage in the profit department due to more of the big-box store type tenants.
  8. Is that the giant wood-sided building north of Payne Ave?

^Have you ever played defensive line? I never said it wasn't worth a penalty. It surely was - personal foul, unnecessary roughness, 15 yards. And, for purposes of consistency, he has to be fined. I just think that the NFL is putting defensive players in a tougher and tougher position. The speed and physical nature of the game make it very hard to comply with the ever-growing rules intended to protect the QB.

I have some sympathy for defensive lineman (or defensive players generally) in these types of situations. It is a violent sport played on quick bursts or energy and adreline. You can do something on the field that looks totally intentional on instant replay when, in fact, it was not. The penalty was definitely warranted. I'm not sure about the fine and suspension, but I understand that the NFL has got to give it for purposes of consistent and even application of the rules.
  11. ^It may have just been a drill. ^^Honestly, we could not put theses places out of business by pushing back last call at legal joints. Being open after-hours is just one of the several illegal activities these businesses specialize in.... if this is, indeed, the type of operation I have heard of. Imagine a place where you can bet on cards, smoke a cigarrette, get a lap dance (or more), and order a drink all at the same time..... with the lappy and the drink being provided at below market value. You ain't finding that action in any of the legal joints around here, regardless of when last call happens.

She should look into United Church of Christ (UCC) which is headquartered here in Cleveland. Non-denominational and fairly middle of the road. Diverse both socially and economically. It's fairly active in the community too. My mom goes to Plymouth Church, near Shaker and Coventry and really likes it. So.... I guess she is a divorcee... but I still have to wonder what made her decide to specifically look at Cleveland. I ask because it will influence our responses. Is it the cultural scene? The people? The lake? Low cost of living? Family in the area? All of the above?

Is that really a 'national spotlight' story? I know it is a big deal here in Cleveland...

Not to bombard with the questions, but why does she specifically want to move to Cleveland? What is it about the City/area that intrigues her?
  15. I am going to assume that their IS 'sex in the champagne room' at these 'clubs'
  16. Haha.... I was wondering when the police were going to catch up with these types of operations. I had heard about this 10 years ago. Anyone ever wonder what happened to the black strip clubs in the City? This is it. They all went underground. The girls have no rules, the "Johns" have no rules, the club has no 'last call', and, of course, gambling is welcomed.
  17. From what location is that rendering positioned?

I actually think that his regime, with the addition of Holmgrem, has become much, much more responsive to media questions. Crennel was AWFUL... he always gave the company line which they could have put the towel boy at the podium to deliver. Mangini was slightly better last year. But Holmgrem has brought a new style and his responses are almost never boilerplate. Mangini seems to be following suit.
  19. I thought MSG was built on top of Penn Station, no?
  20. Fox must have cut off the funding...

I think our defense has 'settled in' quite nicely the first three games. Sure, the first drives in each game were ugly... but take those away and they haven't looked that bad. They could use some depth at DE. Bowens is probably too small to play DE in a 3-4. The most glaring weaknesses on D are that the front 7 is slow and Abe Elam should not be a starting safety in the NFL. But Elam and the front 7 are very physical, big and strong. We should be above average in the red zone and in goalline defenses. I think we have three legit starting cornerbacks and that is huge in today's game. Rogers and Rubin are as good a 1-2 punch at NT as you will find. The LBs are huge, albeit not the fastest. I think Jackson will replace Barton when he gets healthy. Overall, the defense has a physical presence to it. They may get beat, but they are going to dole out some pain also.

I highly doubt anyone can legitimately claim that the war in Iraq averted any terror attacks. I just hope it did not plant the seeds for disasters much worse than 9/11 in the future.
  23. Not to overanalyze, but the statement does not say Room Service has zero intentions of expanding (i.e. opening another store). What I mean is that, Room Service COULD open a store on E 4th and nothing would be false about the statement so long as the GS store remains open.
  24. I'd say that is more a problem with your utter lack of a sense of humor, Ram. EVen my more conservative friends can still suck up their pride and laugh at that show. Is it that the truth hurts too much?
  25. ^Why does Fox make it so easy for him?
