Congrats! That is a BIG boy.
  2. ^I often wonder about Lakewood neighborhoods when these threads pop up. We are always specific as to other cities, identifying specific neighborhoods like Coventry, Cedar-Fairmount, Shaker Square, Tremont, OC, UC, etc., but Lakewood always just gets thrown out there as is, except for the Gold Coast. The above post is the first I can remember that identifies an area. I know there is a wealthier part of Lakewood (north of Lake Avenue, right?), but is the rest of Lakewood pretty much uniform? Are there any areas to avoid?
  3. ^To maintain the same level of Federal contributions to our highway funds, we (and every other state) has to maintain a drinking age of 21 or over.
  4. Are you talking to me? I hope not. Do you have ANY idea what I do? 'You are not going to like this, and it is not a solicitation to argue or said with malice' but, hint - it ain't cleaning out fish tanks and designing storefront windows... Don't lecture me on cops and robbers, acting like I am some sort of naive idealist. In all likelihood, I've forgotten more about the subject than you will ever know.
  5. You should not try to insult anyone with your outfit - i.e. going before a judge with a tank top and flip-flops. Give respect when due. Don't wear a white dress to a wedding (unless you are the bride). Don't wear electric blue to a funeral. Other than that, I try not to be judgmental of someone's outfit, whether it is a large girl with clothes on that are 2 sizes too small or a small guy with clothes on that are 2 sizes too big. It's freedom of expression as far as I'm concerned and I have no interest in going back to the 1940's-1950's when everyone looked the same. Here's a hint though for those concerned. The really good criminals will not appear to be criminals at all. If you spend your time trying to identify criminals by the way they dress, you are going to not notice the one who just ran away with your life savings.
  6. I don't know that T.O. is a #1 receiver anymore.
  7. Uh... It's been Motion, a female strip club, since around 2007 or so. It was another female strip club by a different name before that. I can adamantly vouch that it used to be a female strip club. But it was a gay club prior to that. I'm sure I didn't go there on Tuesday's and Friday's to see T&A! Just A?
  8. Not everyone is familiar with Clifton Gaslight, so it would be helpful to list some attributes that you are looking for.

Sounds like Little Italy is right up your alley. Lots of young people. Lots of activity. Access to the type of markets you are looking for. A little grit, but still safe. Access to both the Rapid and the Healthline. I would imagine that now would be a good time to look for units in that area before the students get back in town for the fall. As for old apartments with creaky floors and character, Coventry has those in spades.... right down to the ivy encroaching onto your patio. Shaker Square as well. There are also some buildings just east of SS, near the intersection of Van Aiken, Chagrin and Warrensville which have the type of appeal you are looking for. My suggestion - if you have family and friends here, give it a shot. You can always relocate if you think the "grass is greener". Living here on your own after college is a lot different than living here with your folks while you are in HS. You will find a lot to like in other places (I surely did) but you might also find that "home" has all you need. That said, I never discourage those folks who have that itch to spend a year or two in NYC or Chicago, so long as you can afford to actually live IN the City.

Looks like the Cavs are getting ready to deal Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair to Minny for Ramon Sessions, Ryan Hollins and a future 2nd round draft pick.
  11. Ha... we debated what would be appropriate attire for a "nice" night out in LI. The Mrs. looked great (as usual) in a dress that could pass muster in just about any setting. Although I thought I might feel under-dressed at the place we had reservations (michaelangelo's), I wore jeans and a collared shirt. I didn't feel out of place at all, but I wouldn't have felt over-dressed in suit slacks either.
  12. Or.... if you are going to be a "poop-head" like I was last year, you can park up on Mayfield Road near Coventry and walk down the hill. Good part about that plan is you won't feel as guilty pigging out because you'll have to tackle the hill on the way home and you can burn off some of the calories you just consumed. I think I am going with option C this year and riding my bike.
  13. Recap/review. So we dropped the little one off around 5 and started to make our way down to LI shortly thereafter. It was pretty hot on Saturday, but not unbearable. We parked in the lot on the east side of Mayfield just south of the red line. $3 for the whole night. Took someone's suggestion on here and went to La Dolce Vita for drinks and apps. Sat at the bar. Food was great of course, but this is not the best place to be on a balmy summer night. No A/C, but the multiple ceiling fans give some relief. I chose Michael Angelo's for dinner because of the atmosphere and the opportunity to incorporate a minor stroll into the evening. So we walked down Murray Hill Rd and had dinner there. A little pricey, but the food was great and the service was great as well. Then it was in and out of a few shops and a brief stop at Murray Hill and Mayfield to hear the live music (piano player) from the balcony above the patio behind La Dolce Vita (although I don't think that is LDV's patio, correct?). Finished the night at Presti's as recommended. Good times. I must say that LI was bustling. Either the activity in that neighborhood has picked up this summer or I am just starting to take more notice of it.
  14. A big chunk of the WHD was torn down for...(drumroll).... surface lots to accomodate the Justice Center I believe. Still, the WHD was different than those areas that you mention, but the closest thing we had. Maybe the old Hough neighborhood, too? We have small pockets here and there though, just nothing on a large scale that hasn't been demolished.
  15. I have never even heard of what sort of ideas they had in mind. To me, this project is a combination of a little poor planning and a lot of bad timing.

^And that has been the best thing to happen to the bar scene in awhile IMO. To me, its not that people can't smoke anymore that makes me happy. It is the fact that the bars, in order to compete, have had to construct outdoor patios. I love me some outdoor patio drinking on a summer night.

    ^^ Right ;)
  18. Kid Cuddi (sp?) was downtown as well. I know some HS kids that went down. It was Cleveland's B-day, no? 214th if I am not mistaken.
  19. Yeah.... I thought about that, but we go to 4th Street a lot and I wanted to do something different. We, as a couple, have never really spent an evening in LI. I biked through LI (down mayfield, accross MH, and up Cedar) last week and the activity down there was off the charts.

My list would be different if you asked "5 things that make Ohio great", but as far as what "defines" Ohio: 1) Diversity (of all kinds) 2) Political swing state 3) The three C's 4) Manufacturing / Rust Belt traits 5) Orange construction barrels

^Exactly. First and foremost, I am looking for comptetiveness. I would rather lose 16 tightly contested games, than win 4 and lose 12 in blowout fashion.
  22. Both instances, they said they had overbooked. With L'albatross, it was not that much of an issue because I tried to get a reservation for 8 that morning and they called me back a few hours later and said they had made a mistake. With Zinc though, I had made my reservation earlier this week. They called me last night to say that they could not accommodate our table of two on Saturday and wanted to switch me to another day. I said it was our anniversary on Saturday and they said "sorry"...
  23. Anniversary this Saturday for the wife and I. Had my reservation revoked by Zinc (they are on my sh!t list now!.... is this the same guy who owns L'Albatross? the same thing happened to me there a few months ago). Anyways, I'm thinking about taking her down to LI for a night out. For dinner, and considering the occasion, what does everybody recommend for a good combo of food and atomosphere? MichaelAngelo's? Never been inside Etna... what is it like as far as setting? I'm thinking a crawl of Murray Hill might be on the menu either before or after the meal.
  24. Ummmm, no. Just put aside your definition of flash mob and stop trying to pick a fight anytime the topic of CH comes up. Someone mentioned that part of the problem in the WHD might be groups of minors who congregrate for no other purpose than to cause trouble and loiter. They are not there to patronize any of the businesses. That's where I drew the analogy. This seems to be happening a lot and in massive numbers (i.e. hundreds of kids running through Wal-Mart causing hell) lately and I would suspect it is due to texting and facebook. If you want to continue the discussion on Severance past that, put it in the right thread or PM me. Great thing about PM is you can say all those things you always want to say but don't in fear of facing the wrath of the board.

I don't care if the people elected Rush Limbaugh to be Governor, there is no way in hell the General Assembly is going to rip apart the Collective Bargaining Act. You know a Governor can't change the way a law is written. Not within his/her province. You're right, of course, that the power of appointment can be influential, but remember that almost all agency decisions are appealable to the courts one way or another.
