JivecityCLE - my trip to the Forest City
^That's what I thought. If you ever have the opportunity (and have not been), the rooftop deck for Judson Manor has some of the best views of the downtown skyline that can be had. Very similar sightline to Mayday's favorite spot on the Garfield monument but closer. The lobby is also impressive (it has maintained a lot of its original features). For those who may be wondering, Judson Manor is located in UC on the corner of E 107th and Park Ln.... right between Wade Lagoon and Park Lane Villa. It was originally a hotel (I believe), but is now used as an assisted living facility.

Panhandling/Scamming stories
I was actually stopped on my bike this weekend by a kid (couldn't have been older than 14) who rode past me. First, he struck up the conversation by asking if I knew where he could get some air for his tire. I offered to use the pump I have attached to my frame and then, caught off guard, he started going off-topic and asking me random questions. Eventually he got to the point and asked for "$3 to $5 so (he) can go out and have a good time." I gave him the WTF look and thought about giving him a lecture, but then thought better of it and rode off. I just can't imagine what kind of low self esteem a young kid like that has to have to actually ride up and down the street begging for money. On top of that, the kid looked well fed and dressed.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Actually a book store is not a bad guess. You have to think what would work in this location. Grocery is immediately off the list IMO. Not for this pedestrian street, with no parking, no loading area, etc. I would think it has to be NOT a "destination store" (i.e. the reason you go to 4th St.) but rather a store that restaraunt goers and passers-by would want to pop into for a peak - such as a book store. An Apple store is another good guess.

Panhandling/Scamming stories
I keep telling you all what you have to do. Ask them for money before they ask you. Even start it off with some wild story about how your car ran out of gas and your kids are home alone with nobody watching them. 75% of the time... it works everytime ;) I am not totally against giving money though. I just restrict my donations to people that are actually working for the handout - street performers, window washers, etc - and those that genuinely and desperately look in need (but, in that case, I usually offer to buy food in lieu of giving money).

Cleveland Browns Discussion
No doubt the Browns were THE team of the 1950's. On the sack total discussion above, it seemed like our pass rush drastically improved when Roth signed and Bernard started getting consistent PT. Those two brought the heat from the edge the last half of the season and probably led to the team's willingness to let Wimbley go via trade. Bowens also really shined (especially getting into the backfield) when he was forced to play on the inside due to injuries. I hope they keep him there because he was pretty much a non-factor on the outside but was a real bright spot while playing inside.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Agreed on Wallace. In the right system, he has potential to be a very effective starter. On Engram, I don't think his $$ is guaranteed, meaning the Browns might decide to just give him a look in camp and let him go if they don't feel he can contribute. You might be right, though, on the idea of him sort of acting as a player-coach to the younger wideouts. It will come down to how many wideouts they think they can keep - MM, Robiskie, Stuckey and Mitchell are probably all locks to make the team. Add on Cribbs and that is 5 right there. They will probably keep 6, so it might come down to Engram holding off any camp challenges from more unknown players.

Where to live in Clevland, Single, 30 something Male, no kids. Looking for nice
Sounds like Downtown or one of the surrounding neighborhoods (Tremont, Ohio City) will best fit your wants and desires. To add to the list of places you have checked out, take a look at the Coventry neighborhood in Cleveland Hts. It has most of what you are looking for except the units are old and generally do not have modern features. Depending on the building, parking can also be an issue. Too bad the Residences at 668 filled up so quickly as those units are probably right up your alley. One last suggestion would be to look at Park Lane Villa in University Circle. I would stay away from the west side if you are going to be working in Bedford. JMO. Good luck!

Cleveland Flats memories from back in the day!
The boating crowd is a deep pocketed bunch that Downtown has been missing out on recently. Shooters is really the only destination now for quick dock and eat/drink visits.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Quick update on the Bluestone development in Cleveland Hts. They are moving closer to the plan to put Brownstones on the parcel the sales center is currently located (running level with and right next to the condo building on Mayfield Rd) going all the way back to the first set of cluster homes. No renderings yet.... just footprints. If built three stories as planned with a roof top deck, there could be some decent lake views for some units (depending on whether any trees block the sightlines). The condo building is selling, albeit slowly. They have had much more success moving the cluster homes. Price points for this developement come close to $400,000 on the high-end and can vary greatly due to the ability to custom design the interior to suit the buyer's preferences.

Those pre-war luxury high-rise buildings can be found in the Shaker Square neighborhood and inner-ring suburbs Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights. However, most of those buildings (with the exception of a few in SS) are not considered "luxury" anymore. Rich people in Cleveland just generally do not live in apartments. The once luxury units are now mere rentals filled mostly with young people. But you can tell what they once were in their glory days. Several of the buildings around Coventry and many in Shaker Heights have servants' entrances to the individual units (where you have two entrances to the apartment and one is somewhere near the kitchen).

Good thing I was born in '78 :) Although I am a bit young to remember the Cardiac Kids, I did attend games in the 1980's when the "Dawgs" first came about. Good times....

My two most memorable nights in the Flats were the biccentenial (1997?) and New Year's Eve (2000).... after seeing the Isley Bros. perform on Public Square first of course.

Good question. I would guess the garage over by the Q on 4th and Huron.... or perhaps the garage down by the harbor behind GLSC?

The NBA owners have very little ground to stand on at the CBA negotiations when they are giving $6mill/yr. to back-up point guards and $5mill/yr. to legendary draft busts like Darko Milicic.

Ohio Cities' Downtown Population
And even more knuckleheads that are incarcerated for something (less than a felony) which they would have recieved a slap on the wrist for if they had shown up to their court date. I do find it hard to believe that the WHD, as it stands now, only has 900 residents on top of the jails. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems awfully low.
