I would be monumentally shocked if after all the secrecy and anticipation, he let's the cat out of the bag just hours in advance of his announcement by booking 6 cabanas at a high-profile hotel in South Beach. Then again, if all the reports today are correct, he is not nearly as smart as I thought he was (i.e. the way he has allegedly decided to go about leaving).

That's funny. I found your missing meds today.

What's your point. The Q has soldout virtually every game LBJ has played here. And (take this from a season ticket holder) there are plenty of attendees at the Q from OUTSIDE the metro area. The season tickets right next to me are often sold and I would say that at least 50% of the time I bother to ask, the people who bought the tickets are from outside the Greater Cleveland area. People come in from C-Bus, W.Va., Pa., Western NY, all over the place to see the Cavs play.
  4. Zaremba is in some serious financial trouble from what I have read. I believe there are people trying to foreclose on the Avenue District, no? From what I remember about recent Uptown news, it is that they are going to start with phase I which will only include apartments and retail (1st floor)..... on both the north and south side of Euclid. MOCA is also gaining some steam for the SE corner of Mayfield and Euclid

^See my post on the previous page in difference between Miami's market size and Cleveland's. You might be surprised. Cleveland's market is significantly bigger than R-D... FWIW.

Miami does not have the mid-level exception to divvy up among veterans. A team has to be OVER the cap to use the MLE. Miami has the money it has to spend on FA's and will burn that budget on these three if the reports are true. Then, they are left with Wade, Bosh, James, Chalmers, maybe Beasley (if he is not sign/traded to Toronto) and 3 2nd round draft picks. The rest of the roster will have to be filled with players accepting the veterans minimum, which I believe is a little over $1 million. Sure, some players WILL agree to that in order to win a ring.... but not a whole lot of them. God help the Heat if Bosh and/or Wade get injured in or near the playoffs, which they often do. Both players rarely play a full season. I am sticking with my prediction. The naming of the show ("The Decision") was quite deliberate IMO. And, to my understanding, the name was given by James' people. That said, I will not be nearly as pissed if he goes to the Heat as if he goes to the Knicks or, to a lesser extent, the Bulls. At least then I could go to bed with the satisfaction that NY fans watched their team get torn down and purposefully be pitiful for the past 3+ years for....... Amare Stoudamire.

He's staying. Think about what he named his show tomorrow - "The Decision" Now think back to that quote from him they played all playoffs where he recalled Cleveland sports misery as "The Fumble, The Drive, The Shot, The Jose Mesa Debacle in the bottom of the 9th" Knowing that him leaving would get added right to the end of that list, does anybody think he has the audacity to provide a name for it?? And Clevelander17 is right that it is all about creating the suspense at this point. Everytime you think a team is out of it, rumors start swirling that causes the team to regain momentum in the gossip blogs of the sports websites. Well... everybody except the Clippers. Everyone knows he won't go there as long as Sterling owns the team.

That will change 5 times before he actually announces. Bulls are still extremely confident they are in the game.... although not being able to get Bosh hurts their chances. There is some alleged Nike "insider" who claims that if LBJ is not a Knick on Thursday, then somebody at Nike was lied to. Someone also leaked a picture of what is supposed to be boxes of orange witness shirts at some Nike storage facility. Most rival executives feel that LBJ is returning, albeit maybe only for 2-3 years. Cavs front office are supposedly very confident that James will stay home. Rumors are flying everywhere and probably 85%-90% is nothing more than pure speculation.... reading the tea leaves kind of thing

Somebody should have told him that Miami and Cleveland are nearly identical in "market size" I think Miami is #17 and Cleveland is #18. Less than a 20,000 TV households difference. http://www.tvb.org/rcentral/markettrack/us_hh_by_dma.asp Also, he should have considered that Miami shares the State of Florida with Orlando, whereas the Cavs are the only NBA team in Ohio. No competing with Cincy for C-Bus's market. Nor are there teams in Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Therefore, other markets which Cleveland sports usually has to share, such as Youngstown and Erie, are not divided.

This is absolutely classic! ESPN.com has a story that ESPN the Mag's Chris Broussard has learned (through sources of course) that Lebron will make his announcement on ESPN on Thursday night. ESPN is only confirming that discussions have taken place. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5359255

You might want to challenge the reckless op citation. Based on your description of the incident, it sounds more like failure to yield the right of way... or maybe improper lane changing. The prosecutor won't let you go unscathed, but perhaps see if he/she would drop the seatbelt ticket if you pled guilty to a reduced charge on the other ticket (something with less points). If you want to drive a hard bargain (but also risk pissing the prosecutor off), say that you want to challenge the ticket and ask if the cop is present. If the cop is not in the courtroom, there is a slight chance the judge will dismiss the case. More likely though is that the judge just sets the hearing for a future date. That said, if you really are a safe driver then what are a few points anyways.

Lebron is supposed to be announcing his decision this Thursday at 9pm on ESPN. 1-hour special TV event. Revenue to go the Boys and Girls Club of America. From what I know about the guy, I find it hard to believe that he is going to break his fans' hearts on national TV. If he was leaving, I would have expected a 'pack it up in the middle of the night' type thing. Note to Bath Twp. police chief - be prepared to exercise those mutual aid contracts if this thing goes bad.

Most everybody is convinced that Bosh does not want to come here. I've moved on. I only want players here that want to be here, LBJ included. And yes, Andy AND JJ is too big a price to pay IMO. People are sleeping on JJ. Watch out for him this year with Scott's offense. We might already have that term that is being tossed about over and over again - 'legitimate second option'

The Cavs are supposed to meet with LBJ tomorrow at 11am. The Bulls will follow at 2:30 and then the meetings will be over. Some fans are contemplating rushing downtown tomorrow and creating a "fan tunnel" (whatever that is) for his route from the highway to the IMG building (assuming that is where the meeting will take place - I have my doubts and think it might actually be in Independence at the practice facility). I was planning a bike ride tomorrow morning anyway, so I MIGHT check it out. But probably not.

Looks like somebody hung a sign right outside where LBJ met with the Nets and Knicks, and where he will be hosting the Clippers and Heat tomorrow.
  16. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
The Nets' meeting lasted about two hours and they left. NYK just concluded their meeting, which lasted about 2 1/2 hours. In other NBA news that I find relevant here - Rudy Gay is preparing to sign a max deal with his team, the Grizzlies..... as is Joe Johnson with his team, the Hawks. The JJ deal is reportedly worth $119 over 6 years. Dallas radio is reporting that Dirk is going to sign a 4 year contract with his team, the Mavericks. Bosh is the only player that appears destined to switch teams and that will still probably be in a sign and trade to Miami so that he can max out his salary as well. Some of the smarter analysts have been saying this for awhile now. No matter how much you want to talk about market size and alleged bright lights, money makes the world go 'round and these players have no interest in leaving guaranteed $$$ on the table.

Hey, kudos to Lebron for bringing some big spendors to town.... I guess :|
  18. Hts121 replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
Reportedly (which is how I will preface everything until LBJ signs), Lebron is meeting with potential suitors today in Downtown Cleveland at the IMG buiding. Knicks and Nets for sure this morning. Word also is that he plans to make a decision before his bball camp opens on July 5.

Shaw withdraws name and Cavs are in deep contract talks with Byron Scott to be Cavs head coach. As I see it, two possibilities here: 1. Cavs wanted an answer right now and Shaw wants to see what happens with the LAL job. He didn't want to rush and the Cavs did not want to wait, as they feel equally good about Scott. OR 2. Scott was always Gilbert's #1 choice after Izzo (as was reported previously) and he just used Shaw to force Scott to consider taking less $ than what he thought Izzo was offered. Shaw may have even been complicit in order to take Scott out of the running for LAL (if that job opens up, Scott was rumored to be the candidate preffered by LAL owners Jerry Buss and Magic Johnson). I imagine they are still squabling over money as I write this post, but it appears like it is going to get done.

    My deepest condolences, J.
  21. From what I have heard (on UO and from people in real estate), the townhouses have done reasonably well but the condos have not. Keep in mind that the condos weren't exactly flying off the shelf before the credit freeze either, although that certainly hasn't helped. And it's a shame that the condo building hit the freeze after phase 1 because it really looks nowhere nice as it should. I just hope it doesn't turn into another AT Tower deal where an unfinished product is left standing alone, because in this case the fact that there are uncompleted phases is readily apparent.

NOW... the reports are that Shaw left town without a contract offer, but that doesn't mean that he didn't solidify himself as the top candidate. The Summer of Lebron continues...
  23. I think what's confusing to us is why you would assume uphill should equal north. :) Funny how the mind of a 5 year old works sometimes... I suppose you had your geography all down by then :-P Because it came up in the course of the conversation and is not worth making another thread. I'm sure the mods will do their job if they feel they need to.
  24. From my neighborhood, heading to the lake (north) is almost all downhill and heading away from the lake (south) is almost all uphill. It's why they call it the 'Heights'
  25. Right.... west it is. That is a common mistake on my part because, ever since I was a kid, my 'mental map' of the Cleveland street grid is upside down. Consequence of growing up in the Heights where going up is actually south and going down is north.
