Cleveland Masonic Temple fire
It was a large, uninviting building, but iconic nonetheless. I hope it does not have to be 'razed'

^Highly doubt it. We are in a bit of a pickle because any 'elite' coach we want to hire is going to want to know whether James is staying. PhilJax ain't coming. Neither is Coach K. A more realistic possibility that I could get behind is Byron Scott.

Cleveland: Heights Area News & Discussion
Definitely not just one family. I thought it might be at first, but yesterday, I spotted them walking up Noble Road, then over on Bluestone by St. Margaret Mary, and then on Green Rd. near the Metroparks entrance. It only stands out because the "121" never had any form of Asian / Middle Eastern population (that is, except for my good old friend Sammy at the Noble Dairy Mart). I asked one of my buddies who still lives in the neighborhood and he said that he has noticed the same thing lately. These are not college students. I am mostly noticing what appears to be people later on in life (50-60) or young families with babies. The rents are pretty cheap in the buildings along Noble and Green, and it appears that is where I have noticed the difference.

Cleveland: Heights Area News & Discussion
Has anyone else noticed a significant increase in the Indian (I assume) population along Noble Rd? I shouldn't even say "increase" because there never was such a population. Maybe it is just one large family that enjoys walks, but it seems like everytime I drive up that street lately, the presence stands out because, like I said, it is something new.

Cleveland: westside living?
South Euclid is on the east side, what some would consider the "inner-ring". Solon is on the far east side, i.e. exurbia, but is a nice community IMO. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Parma. JMO. Very bland from my perspective. Bay Village is great if you have kids... not so much for a young single girl who wants to be around people her own age. Westlake is kind of like Solon, but closer to the City. It has a very suburban feel IMO. Bottom line, unless you have reason, I would not limit your search to these communities. Since you came here to "urban"ohio to ask, may we point you in the direction of some more walkable neighborhoods with more activity?

Ummmm... Love ya Jim, but you are way off base here. Lebron put the pressure on himself. The national media put the pressure on him. Cleveland is just happy to have him. A championship would be great, but that will not make us love him or hate him. Maybe Jim is trying to suggest that he should go to a different market where the public scrutiny and pressure would put less weight on Lebron's shoulders? You know... a place like NYC (no championship since '73) or the Bulls (live up to Jordan's legacy) :? Lebron deserves some criticism for his play in the Boston series. He is getting it. Not just from the locals though. Everyone is on him for it, especially the national media. We have always handled Lebron with white cotton gloves around these parts. I don't get where Jim Brown's statement is coming from.

2010: Top 10 Cities for New Grads (CINCINNATI!)
I hope I don't offend anyone.... but are our college grads really relegated to sales and customer service? I realize that sales is one of the, if not the, highest paying "profession"... but I don't run into too many young kids who say "I want to grow up to be a salesman"

The callers on the Jim Rome show bash on every city. It is kind of the show's theme. Americans talking smack to Canadians. Canadians talking smack to Americans. The coasts talking smack to each other. Individual cities ragging on each other. Nobody should take offense. And yes, Rome is big Cleveland supporter and always has nothing but nice things to say about the City. Of course, we are one of his bigger and most consistent markets, so it would not be in his interest to bash us. The makers of the video deserve what they get. You could not have found a more quircky group of Clevelanders if you tried - Carl Monday, the Norton furniture guy, Tom Mizmy, Avery Friedmen, the various radio personalities, Big Dawg, Big Chuck, etc. I certainly hope that "cheesy" was what they were going for. Me, I prefer the billboard erected by the forumers at Realcavsfans.com - "Born Here, Raised Here, Plays Here, Stays Here." Subtle but strong message.

^If Lebron played in OKC, it would be the same story. It is because it is Lebron. The global icon right here in Cleveland. Regardless how he feels now, this is the way he always wanted it to happen. Playoffs are ongoing and he is still the lead story on Sportscenter whenever he wants to be. It's selfish, but smart at the same time. I'll bet he is having his "team" plant seeds here and there which will keep everyone guessing until mid-July. Take the report from Ric Bucher yesterday that he had two different, yet very reliable sources, tell him the exact opposite - one said Lebron was 100% gone - and the other "emphatically" claimed Lebron was going nowhere. It's gonna be the Summer of Lebron whether we like it or not.

Everyone needs to remember that THE story right now is where Lebron might go. And if he does go to NYC, Chicago, wherever, THE story will be the fact that he left, quit, turned his back on Ohio, however you want to describe it. The media is just running with whatever sells.

^No. It is just a story that is tabloid material, so people are running with it. However, Lebron and Delonte performed their pre-game ritual handshakes before games 5 and 6. Would you slap 5 with someone who was banging your mom behind your back? I don't think it is a deal-breaker for Lebron, but LA does not have a statue of Magic or anybody else outside its arena inscribed with "The best there ever was. The best there ever will be." Magic's shadow is nothing compared to Jordan's.

My post represents my observations as a resident of Cleveland for several decades, not my opinions (except when stated otherwise in the response - see "IMO" short for "in my opinion"). Is it my opinion that the inner city on the east side is mostly black? No. That is a fact. How about that west-side suburbs are predominantly white with few exceptions? That is a fact too, no? Is it not accurate to say that most of Cleveland's hispanic residents are on the west-side? If I was to tell you that most families on my block are white, would that be opinion or observation?

Cleveland
The personal observations and knowledge of Cleveland area residents are not hearsay or opinion. Think of it like being a witness in court. 'Hearsay' would be you saying something that someone else said. 'Opinion' would be testimony not based on personal knowledge and observation. If the OP wants to pick our brain, there is nothing wrong with that. I am sure he/she will not cite UrbanOhio as a 'source' in his/her report. But our responses can get the OP started in the research process.

Cleveland
The inner-city Eastside is mostly black, and I do mean "mostly" Most Cleveland area hispanics are on the Westside Asiatown has a decent Asian population, but then you have to travel to the far East-side suburbs, like Orange Village and Solon to find them in numbers again The East-side inner-ring suburbs are probably the most diverse IMO, although certain parts of the inner-city Westside might be catching up or surpassing that level of diversity. The West-side suburbs are predominantly white with few exceptions. Don't forget about Cleveland's large Jewish population, which you will find in the East-side suburbs, especially Cleveland Hts, University Hts, Beachwood and Shaker Hts. Far east suburbs like Mayfield Heights also have a large eastern european (particularly Russian) population which is noticeable.

Dan Gilbert has done everything within his power to hand Lebron a winner. Ferry has gotten the better of almost every trade he has made - even if he never found this so-called "Robin" to LBJ's "Batman.... which I am starting to think might not exist unless you reverse roles. Brown did a good job with this team for awhile, but he obviously needs to go and Gilbert/Ferry will make that happen. I just hope that Lebron is getting the proper advice. The article I posted on the previous page summed it up real well. However, I will add this - if he turns his back on Ohio and leaves, LBJ better be ready for the repurcusions. That's right... all that dirty laundry, all those short-comings, and all those "locker room secrets" are going to come pouring out once we decide to remove that bubble we have constructed around his life. We protected and sheltered him, we dared not offend/question him, and we pushed aside any possible criticism for seven+ years. He turns his back on us, a little quid-pro-quo will be in order. And to all those free agents lining up to play with Lebron in another City, ask yourself this - was Larry Hughes better before or after he teamed up with Lebron. Donyell Marshall? Damon Jones? Kevin Ollie? Eric Snow? Lucius Harris? Shaq? Jamison? Parker? Mo Williams? Ricky Davis? Wally? Who exactly was BETTER playing with Lebron than without? It is not easy to find a single example. Boozer became an all-star after he left, for instance. Shannon Brown was a non-factor who became a big factor for the Lakers. My point is that playing with Lebron might result in more regular season wins, but it comes at an individual price. [rant off]

Safest area for CSU law student to live
Then it has changed. About 15 years ago a HS friend of mine was jumped by his LI neighbors the day after having a party and inviting, as they put it, "the wrong kind" To be clear, I personally love LI. And I don't know of any 'hate crimes'.... other than the one described above. I have just heard the stories. Since we do not know the OP's race, the information may be useful. Would you "recommend" LI to a young black law student? I probably would not as it relates to picking a place to live. To the OP - I go to LI only about 3 times a year, even though I drive through it all the time, so don't put too much stock in my opinion without confirming it from more informed sources.

Unless things have dramatically changed in the past 10 years, Little Italy is not the safest area for EVERYONE... if you know what I mean.

Safest area for CSU law student to live
I would not rule out Downtown. Safest neighborhood in the City proper if you ask me. There is a building right across from the law school, 1900 Euclid I believe, which has decent units. There is also a new studio building a little more east on Euclid, but I can't remember the name (anyone?). We have a thread on it. Reserve Square, Statler Arms, the Bingham, Critterdon Court, Residences at 668, Pointe at Gateway, are just a few buildings downtown that you may want to consider.

Is this a safe area in Cleveland Heights? (I'm in a bit of a time crunch)
It's a family neighborhood, so I would not anticipate noise being an issue... except maybe when Monticello Middle School let's out in the afternoons. It is a VERY diverse neighborhood if that makes any difference to you. Probably split 50/50. Very easy drive into University Circle (use Forrest Hills Blvd to Euclid Ave), but highway access is not good. You'd have to drive through one of the worst neighborhoods in the entire region to get to the nearest highway entrance (Eddy Rd) Close to the Recreation Center, so that is a plus.

As far as Lebron possibly leaving, I admit that I am less confident in him staying than I have ever been. However, I still don't believe it to be "likely" I thought Jamal Mashburn made a great point last night - for Lebron to sign somewhere else, he FIRST has to divorce himself from Northeast Ohio. He must divorce himself from the team and the fans. He must decide to leave his family and friends (with the exception of the 'Horsemen' who will follow him whereever he goes). He has never been put in this situation before so I honestly believe him when he says he does not know what he is going to do. Most importantly though, he has to accept the fact that he will be leaving town as a failure. He will be labeled a traitor and the same national media that is begging him to leave will pour it on when/if he does - turning his back on his home town, poor cleveland fans, no loyalty, no appreciation for the fact that Gilbert has spared no expense to give him everything he wants, etc. It would be Boozer-gate x10. Last night will be the worst you will hear from Lebron as far as inferences and innuendoes of him leaving. He is a sore loser, for better or worse. He is a "blamer." Always has been. It is always somebody else's fault and that is clearly how he felt last night. He was angry and probably beyond frustrated. Perhaps it was justified, but he also knows how poorly HIS performance in this series reflects on him and his legacy. He is too prideful to not let that bother him. So I was not suprised at all by the attitude we saw at his presser. I would argue that his failures in this postseason make it less likely that he leaves than what would have been the case if he was a FA last off season. Last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, you couldn't point a finger at Lebron for any post-season failures. This year, you definitely can... elbow or not. This team was built to revolve around him being great. He wasn't. And he will NEVER live down Game 5. Never. Take that from somebody who was there and has never questioned Lebron's competitive edge. So, he has a choice to make. I have always said that if he goes somewhere else, it won't be for money or fame. He already has that. He will go somewhere because it will put him in a better situation to win a championship. But where should he go is what I have to ask. Chicago seems to be the flavor of the day... but I'm not so sure that is a good fit. They have ONE quality big-man, no first round draft choice, and a PG who needs the ball in his hands to be effective and will command a max contract in a few years hampering the team's ability to sign a supporting cast. The Knicks and Nets are garbage who need another few years of rebuilding to put a competitive team on the floor and there is no way Lebron is going to take the guest suite at Wade's house.

Cleveland: Heights Area News & Discussion
Does anyone have any evidence - hell, I'll even settle for an accusation from a reputable journalist - that CH fudges its crime statistics? Since that accusation is getting tossed about with such purported certainty maybe we should provide some... any... little shred of evidence. Or, perhaps, it should be clarified that it is nothing but the unsubstantiated speculation from someone who does not, never has, and never will live in CH.
