  1. ^I just think that you have to come to the reality that, normally, more urban communities such as the Heights have "problems" that places like Solon and Mayfield do not and vice-versa. They are different and always have been. That said, it is a relatively safe area. If you have statistics to prove otherwise (not just isolated incidents) please do share. And while I will not exclude all of University Heights... if you live east of Belvoir and south of Mayfield, you WILL take back that claim that you live in the Heights ;)
  2. Since there was some debate about this in another thread, let's clear some things up - OHSAA offers possible rule change on forfeits: High school newswatch Cleveland Heights prides itself upon being a progressive community. Heights High is the poster child this month for a proposed change in an Ohio High School Athletic Association bylaw that caused plenty of heartache in the school last fall. Principals at OHSAA member schools have until May 17 to vote on 17 referendum issues, including a limited change to eligibility Bylaw 4-1-1 that forced Cleveland Heights to forfeit three of its seven football victories. If adopted, the bylaw change would give OHSAA commissioners an option other than forfeits for administrative errors. He's been on AM 1100 a lot lately in Cleveland pumping up the Tea Party movement.
  4. "very very close" to construction or signage?
  5. Hate to say it, but "second class" would be an improvement for CSU among the world's universities.
  6. ^I don't think that is vinyl, but rather some sort of composite.
  7. Before we start "filling in" the long, thin stretch of Euclid Ave in the MidTown neighborhood with block after block of dense retail and residences, I would prefer to first see "a few" things happen in the anchor neighborhoods of Downtown and UC, creating the spill-over necessary for developers to take a serious look at making such investments in Midtown.
  8. Skateboarder or roller blader? I remember the demons, but IIRC they were on roller blades with hockey sticks. But you are right... awesome film.
  9. In the last picture in this post, do I see the proposed/cancelled Ameritrust Tower (which was going to be built on Public Square) in the background? Was the design sold elsewhere?

Congrats! You'll forget everything you just stuffed in your head over the past several months in a matter of a few weeks.

Make no mistake about it... our HOF would be "built up to street"
  12. I would be in favor of an ice skating rink, but I doubt that is in the plans. But wouldn't it be cool to have a rink that doubles as a very large fountain or an artificial pond during the warmer months, whereas B-ball and Tennis courts would only get 6 or so months of use out of the year.
  13. Not the place for basketball or tennis IMO.

Lebron does soak up the getting hit in the face, poked in the eye, type stuff. I wonder how he would handle being in a fistfight sometimes because he tends to 'crumble' to the ground whenever someone hits him in the face. That said, I am always amazed at how he handles the ankle injuries. I have seen that guy many times twist his ankles in ways that would have easily broke mine (or at least tore up my ligaments). He sucks those up and usually gets right back in the game. I've heard his ankles are able to bend like that because of his stretching regiment.

Love or hate him, you have to give Prince credit for being a "true" musician, a dying breed, writing most of his own lyrics AND music.

Piss the B!tch off... roll again in 2 weeks
  17. Projects related to medical mart to get public discussion; costs are an issue CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It has been clear for months that the $425 million project to build a new medical mart and renovate the convention center represents a huge opportunity to renew big chunks of downtown Cleveland. Think of a spectacular new landscape on Malls B and C, which double as the roof of the city's convention center. Or a handsomely renovated Public Auditorium. Or new connections from the convention center to the Lake Erie waterfront or hotels. .......................... Cleveland lawyer Jeff Appelbaum, who represents the county in its partnership with MMPI, is expected to announce at a county commissioners meeting that MMPI has hired Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, a Seattle landscape architecture firm, to work on a new vision for Malls B and C. ........................... A public forum on the future of the Mall, organized by civic and nonprofit organizations, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium of the Cleveland Public Library, 325 Superior Ave. .......................... Ken Silliman, chief of staff to Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, said Wednesday it's possible, for example, that separating Public Auditorium from the existing convention center and then reattaching it to a renovated convention center may impose expenses on the city for work inside the auditorium not covered by the county's $425 million investment. He declined to give specifics, saying that the city is negotiating the terms of a $20 million transfer of the convention center to the county to enable the big project, and "it's not Mayor Jackson's practice to negotiate in the media." http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2010/04/projects_related_to_medical_ma.html

Mel Brooks' role as the Governor was priceless in Blazing Saddles. But what gets me everytime is the "little bastard shot me in the ass" story by Gene Wilder's character.... that and the "my grandmother was dutch" line

Hate to say it because I love the guy and would never question his toughness, but Lebron tends to 'milk' his nicks and bruises. Jordan used to do the same thing. I am not worried about the elbow. X-ray and MRI revealed no structural damage. I fully expected Chicago to win one or two games in the series and play us tough. They are a very scrappy team and we took them lightly at certain points. I thought Reggie Miller was dead on last night when he said the Cavs looked like a cat toying with a piece of string. They knew, if they had to, they could turn it on at any moment. The most promising development of the series for me was Jamison's evolution with Lebron and our overall offense. He will keep KG busy in this next series and not allow him to roam on defense. As long as we can do a decent job of keeping Rondo out of the paint, I am going to say Cavs in 6.

Finally got a chance to see Avatar and am adding it to my list. While I did not see it in 3-D, the plasma/blu-ray/surround sound combo definitely is jaw-dropping with this movie. I bought a copy the day after I rented it. Not a bad deal for under $30 considering it came with a regular DVD copy that I can give to someone less technologically sophisticated than my man-cave...
  22. Or the Sunset Strip. My understanding is that only residents can park on the streets around the strip and every lot charged some ridiculous fee.
  23. For those who maybe never went there, Hornblower's was on the north side of Marginal Road between E 9th and Burke. One spot that is unfortunately private is Shoreby in Bratenahl, but I think you can still make reservations. The restaraunt is OK, but what I really like is the bar they have on the cliff overlooking the harbor (separate structure from the club). It is shaped in a circle and has windows all around it. Offers really nice elevated views of the lake and downtown.
  24. I think that niche used to be filled by the FEB. All those bars, clubs, restaraunts lining the river with decks on the back. Boats used to tie in right behind those establishments. I encourage the effort though. The question is where exactly are you contemplating? It would be great if they did not put that Christie's right there on the west bank, but what is done is done. The land north of CBS will have some options within the next 5 or 10 years. Then, there is the new FEB of course. If I were you, I would try to capitalize on some area along the river as the lakefront land will be very hard to get your hands on.
  25. Not buildings, flowers, statues, etc..... I mean other "attractions"
