Saving money might be the only realistic goal. The inequities are not going to be solved for the reasons you cited above.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
It wouldn't be popular with me. I love the exterior of the Huntington Bldg. I could maybe stomach some tasteful arch tunnels (or whatever they would be called) allowing for access from the street to the courtyards.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Yes, yes and maybe so. What I was referring to is the fact that the floor plates do not extend from one end of the building to the other. They are broken up significantly. The building is built like two rectangular dougnuts. Take a look at the satellite image. You also have to consider the support beams that run through that building which frustrate the creation of "contiguous" space. This has all been discussed ad nauseam before. It just doesn't fit the County's needs.

I think a county-wide consolidation for the schools is the only major shift that is even plausible. You would have to maintain the "sub" district lines probably, but you could consolidate school boards and administration.

They were :"chased away"... with no loot. I feel sorry for the girl who got punched and surely traumatized, but things could have been a lot worse. And you should "keep an eye out" no matter where you are... sketchy individuals don't always look sketchy.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I think those options are problematic for the county due to the need for 'contiguous' office space. Hunington is too divided and, while large, is not nearly as big as it looks from the outside. We been down the road with the Ameritrust building before. East Ohio Gas would need major renovations to fit the county's needs.... have you ever seen the 'lobby' in that building? I am not sure that any of those buildings is going to re-purposed for anything other than residential or small offices.... maybe a mix of both.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I would venture to guess that fan-crazy Indians' seasons generate much, much more revenue than the Cavs games do. Obviously, there are twice as many home games and the stadium hold twice as many fans.... but you also have to consider that the Indians bring fans downtown during a time of the year that, when the game is over, they are not necessarily running for the parking garages to get in their car and head back to the 'burbs. Just look at how packed 4th Street is leading before and after Indians games. So... any economic impact the Cavs have on downtown can easily be replaced with a winning baseball team like we had in the 1990's where the stadium sells out every game.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I don't know what the motivation was... but those have got to be two of the dumbest criminals I have heard of in awhile. All the private security on top of public safety forces around there... I mean, they had to be on something to even take the risk on such a major street in such a busy part of town. They would have been 100x better off just a 1/2 mile down the road in EC where there are no cops.

The Future of Dayton in One Image
^^I am not sure that is a good comparison. In the lower photo, I see what looks like a lot of industry built around the houses. That style neighborhood, which we see up here in CLE in neighborhood like Collinwood, is just plain "out" in the 21st century.... especially with single family homes. ^Trees only have a certain lifespan... which I believe is shortened when planted around concrete (restricts the roots). My Dad's neighborhood in Charlotte has a major issue because it is lined with gigantic, but slowly dying, southern Oaks. It can be a real nuisance. BUT, the City should replant... even if they are just ornamental trees like Cherries or Crabtrees

Browns are reportedly shopping BQ as well now. I don't like the reports of them bringing in Jake Delhomme for an interview. I was never a fan of that guy.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
An ESPN "source" said today that the Clippers will let Lebron pick his own coach. He has been the talk of NYC since he came into the league. The fact that Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudamire, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Carlos Boozer, and more could all also be on the FA market this summer is nothing more than a whisper compared to all the cover stories LBJ gets. His team has the best record in the league. They might as well hand him the MVP trophy now. Yup.... he really needs to get to a bigger market to become that "superstar" everybody expects he can be.... Have I mentioned how much of a marketing genius Lebron is? Expect another three yr contract with a ETO for a 4th yr. and a player option for the 5th. The latter two provisions for security just in case the CBA negotiations go bad. The three yr deal just so he can remain the biggest story in NYC without actually playing there.... well, at least until 2014 when he spurns them again.

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
We'll take Forest Hills and "the forgotten triangle" if the City of Cleveland takes the rest ;) I agree with most of what is said above, but I will throw this thought in as well. EC has absolutely beautiful architecture.... in absolutely horrendous condition. When you add up Cleveland weather, an abundance of wood siding (which I definitely prefer to aluminum... who doesn't) and very loose city oversight, you get eyesores popping up on every block. The infrastructure has been crumbling for some time now as well. But my #1 reason is lack of safety force presence. It is unforgiveable how low the police presence is in this City. It's not the cops fault. One of my best friend's dad just retired from that department. The financial support they get is simply inadequate to deal with such a dense population. Some "order-maintenance" policing would do wonders for EC. Without it, you have places like the beverage drive-thrus that will sell to anyone (I used to buy there when I was 16), well-known drug-dealing hotspots like "Dome", and delinquents not even knowing what the word "consequences" is.... not that their parents shouldn't be teaching them that, but that would be for another thread.

Jamison's knee if fine per Windhorst's latest reports. MRI showed nothing significant. He is day-to-day. Just old I guess.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
We have a thread for those that want to speculate as to the ways you could label the recent federal stimulus or TARP as failures. Ohio doesn't have any money to stimulate the economy with even if we wanted to... so it really isn't relevant to the conversation of who should be our next governor.

Dear Willyboy: "Your jealous rage leads you to see things that don't actually exist. Anyone with any familiarity with the Catholic school system knows that your view of the world is not only ridiculous, it's impossible."

OK... let's try to go through this calmly out of respect for the Mayor. What exactly did CH get caught doing? What were the "activities"? Since you seem to know so well, what is my familiarity with the Catholic school system?

You have no idea what you are talking about Clevelander17. First, CH did NOT get caught with its hands in the cookie jar. It was a paperwork mishap (pure clerical error) and they were reported by Maple Heights after they beat Maple Heights (that loss could have dropped MH out of the playoffs and WOULD have put CH in the playoffs). The OHSAA has already said they are going to look into changing the rules to prevent the kids from sufferring a similar injustice in the future. Second, the Iggy "reports" did not come from my best friends cousin's girlfriend... I went to school with these kids and I knew what their academic capabilities were vs. their athletic abilities. The kid from the other district was one of the more blatant recruitments you could imagine. He was barely passing grade at a low-level public school but was 6'5 300lb+. Iggy took him nonetheless. He even got expelled while he was there and then reinstated for the following football season. Believe what you want, but don't come here insinuating that others' are fabricating stories which are absolutely true. Anybody who played HS football in this area knows that St. Iggy and Ed's start looking at "athletic" prospects while they are in middle school.
