I have season tickets in the middle bowl for Cavs games. I called my ticket rep last week to see if I could upgrade and he said I had the best "available" seats. The financial struggles of the NBA franchises have much, much more to do with player salaries (Larry Hughes 5yrs/60mill) and luxury tax penalties than fan loyalty and appreciation.

I never realized that Cincy people hate the NBA so much ;) Then why is Football more popular than both.

There was a gap in the NBA after Jordan left/faded before Kobe, Lebron, Wade, etc. took the reigns. Remember when everybody was looking of the next Jordan? Grand Hill, Penny Hardaway, Vince Carter all took their crack. All failed for various reasons. Defense ruled the day and point total averages were dipping into the low 90's, even the high 80's. Truthfully, the utter brilliance of the defensive schemes had dulled down the game in the minds of many fans, even the purists. The NBA changed some rules on how teams could defend (no hand-checking), brought in the 3-point line a bit and other minor tweaks.... and now the league is getting back to the glory days of Magic, Larry and Michael with a new influx of elite talent. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the NBA the fastest growing sports market in the world. When I was recently in NJ visiting the in-laws, I found an internet stream for the Cavs' game coming from Italy! China is also getting NBA fever, especially since the era of Yao began.

    They still play professional hockey?
  5. In Cleveland Heights, north Noble is in bad shape. North Noble Rd. is in East Cleveland. Once you cross over Euclid, go up the hill past Nela Park, on Noble Rd. you enter Cleveland Hts. Is that area "trashed beyond repair"? Someone should have told the developers that recently put some very nice, built up to the street, townhomes about 1/2 mile before you get to the police station. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=noble+rd+cleveland+heights&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=35.136115,78.837891&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Noble+Rd,+Cleveland,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio&ll=41.538073,-81.557693&spn=0,359.980752&z=16&layer=c&cbll=41.537955,-81.557386&panoid=ksEDn0a9PUzoiNE5lhP5gg&cbp=12,154.07,,0,5
  6. Exactly what areas of Cleveland Heights are "trashed beyond repair"? I'm not saying there aren't some, but your take on that question my provide some needed context in your line of posts.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas' agent says Ilgauskas plans on rejoining Cavaliers "It is Zydrunas' desire to return to the Cavaliers if a suitable contract can be agreed upon," Rudoy said in an e-mail sent to reporters. "He has been overwhelmed and deeply touched by the outpouring of support and affection by the fans and by his teammates. He hopes to return to bring a championship to the Cavaliers and to the city of Cleveland." http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/03/zydrunas_ilgauskas_agent_says.html
  8. I would really hate to design our public spaces in a less than ideal way to account for any 'vagrant' factor. That issue has to be dealt with another way. Don't get me wrong, those designs that invite crime with issues such as sightline concerns should be taken into account. But the sleeping, etc. issues can be dealt with other ways, such as park closing hours for example.
  9. What do you suggest as far as "changes" if regionalization is not an option in your mind? Realistic changes, that is. Many forumers on here like to explore possible and realistic solutions to the problems of the day. It really does us no good to take the "woe is me" approach and just keep moving outward.
  10. Is it possible to separate "white flight" and the reasons for it from a discussion on regionalism? I think it is. On the most part and IMHO, people move because of the outward appearance of the neighborhood and the school system, not the government structure. The next time you hear somebody moving out to a far-east suburb, ask them what government plan their new City/Village/Township is under, is the Mayor really the "Mayor" or is there a City Manager, what are the bargaining unit compositions, what types of mutual aid contracts does the city have, what constitutes a quorum of council, does the City even have a charter or is it run under Title VII, etc., etc. I bet you would find that most people are not that knowledgeable outside of the "curb appeal"... which I don't think would materially change for any given neighborhood with regionalization. If anything, I would think it would have a net positive effect.
  11. Can't we just start a "white-flight" thread and discuss the reasons/rationale for that epidemic there?
  12. From your (apparently) uncultured neighbors in Cleveland Heights - And I truly hope you and yours are able to "save" UH and Lyndhurst. Don't worry, just keep fighting the good fight and everything will be all whight.
  13. All that I know is that access to Wendy Island needs to be improved dramatically. I don't commute on the West Shoreway so, personally, I have no dog in that fight.
  14. I never knew she was from Cleveland. I've had a crush on her since Con Air and Patch Adams.
  15. I know I advocated for this in another thread, but this would be a good place for a little splash park. However, I suppose that would require the installation of some bathrooms as well.
  16. I love the lighting and the concrete lazy-boys. The fountains will add a nice touch too. Not sure if I am crazy about the grassy 'mounds' though. Any functional purpose to those or are they just for show?
  17. You obviously know very little about Shaker's financial condition.
  18. Just to confirm, you want your screenname to be "Hts121"? Yes. Thanks guys. It's the "121" that distinguishes me anyways. Everybody is a "44"
  19. Requesting leave to drop the '44' out of my username.
  20. The inclusion of natural light would save on energy costs too. (you're slipping EC...)
  21. Excellent post Matches. I agree that total "mergers" are not practical. However, mergers of certain services among neighbors are realistic IMO. It already happens. School districts would be the biggest obstacle (which is why the CH-UH debate is somewhat silly to some). The ideal situation, however, would be that the entire region merge - or at least Cleveland and the inner-rings (as I suggested a few pages back) - and find collective strength among the various parts.

A couple more that I would add to my list: 'Memento' - great concept Almost Famous - for the soundtrack if nothing else In the Mouth of Madness - underrated horror flick Total Recall - the best Ah-nald movie of all time IMO And for those who brought up Van Damme movies, how the living hell is 'Bloodsport' left out of the conversation? Good call above on 'MASH' - Much funnier than the TV show to me. Lastly, I can't believe I left off 'Hunt for Red October'.... even if the book blows it out of the water, the movie was great.
  23. Beachwood wouldn't have you
  24. Like I said..... elitist. No worries though... all the best athletes come from monticello or roxboro anyways.

If you are making the analogy I think you are, may I suggest that we not go down this path.
