I'm open to that idea so long as I get to keep my guns and you are open to applying that principle to the Sixteenth Amendment. Lose the guns and get a dog. The guns might help stop an attack on your person or home, but the dog will prevent it. I could have a gun in my home, but what good would that be. It is not like I would hang a sign outside my house telling robbers not to come in becaue I have a gun. On the other hand, I would love to meet the robber who would not move on to the next house when he heard my 100 lb German Shepherd growling on the other side of the door.

Probably for the Second Amendment thread, but wasn't the purpose of the right to bear arms to allow citizens the freedom to protect (with force) their life/liberty/property/rights from those who sought to usurp them? Just sayin' Are you back tracking on your clarification now. You said (sarcastically I suppose) that rioting was the "only answer". I said no. I wasn't saying anything about the Second Amendment. No, I was just addressing the validity of your unending obsession with a couple people's signs. My obsession is valid. No need to address it.

I do, but not in the way you describe. It is "living" because it was written without the precise specificity necessary to prohibit how its core values are applied to the "here and now". The genius of the Founding Fathers is that they realized they didn't know everything and didn't pretend that they would have all the answers for problems/issues that the Nation would face in the times to come. Translating it to UO speak, they laid out a conceptual design and a brilliant one at that.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
It would seem that UH prefers its duplexes more of the up-down style, while Cleveland Hts is more popular with the side-by-side (tastefully on the corner of course) style. Maybe that is what Clevelander17 was referring to. UH also has Target, while we have Wallmart... another big, irreconciable difference. Perhaps we could be convinced to hold off on the annexation if UH just gave us Bialy's. That's all we really want anyways.

Best Movies Ever Made?
^The Breakfast Club. Classic for our generation even if the lack of diversity was typical for any John Hughes film. And dare I say that is the only favorite movie list I will ever see in my life that goes from Inglorious Bastard to The Sound of Music to Wizard of Oz to The Dark Knight. That is... until someone posts one jumping from Annie to Saw

I never realized University Hts was so elitist. For that, they don't deserve to wear the Tiger.

Best Movies Ever Made?
I thought he more withered away than melted, but I will take your word for it. Regardless, it doesn't come close to the epic face melting we saw in ROLA

Best Movies Ever Made?
Was there "face melting" in the Last Crusade? I thought that was just Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Best Movies Ever Made?
I really didn't like Forrest Gump when if first came out because I kept seeing it as a ripoff of "Being There" with Peter Sellers. But as I've seen it again, and again, and again, I've really come to appreciate it. A teacher I had in HS had a great take on Forrest Gump. The teacher grew up as part of the baby boomer generation. He thought that Forrest Gump was a gut shot at all the people in his generation who had sold out on their idealogies and finally bowed down to "the man".... Like George Carlin said, it was a generation that went from "cocaine to rogaine". Forrest Gump just fluttered through life (think of the feather at the beginning and end) as a truly good person who never sold out and he thrived. He overcame a physical disability and absentee father to become an All-American college football player, a war hero, a international sports star, a cult leader, a multi-millionare both through independent business and as an investor, he eventually won over his childhood sweetheart and got married to her, he retired at a young age, he met the President of the United States 3 or 4 times, etc., etc. He articulated it much better than me, but it made some sense even if that wasn't the writer's intent. Regardless, the movie hits on just about every major event and social issue of the last half of the 20th Century and is a classic commentary on American life during that time.

Hmmmmm..... can we ditch the Plain Dealer for the Beacon Journal? That could be a deal breaker.

^ I suspect that a lot of criminal defendants make the mistake of hiring a lawyer who they can relate to (the smooth talking salesman) instead of a lawyer who the judge and jury can relate to. Sometimes that lawyer will be white and other times that lawyer will be black. Sometimes a woman. Sometimes a grandpa looking lawyer with professor-esque patches sewn on his jacket. It all depends on the situation - what you are charged with, where you are charged, and whether you are just trying to get the best deal possible or are planning to demand a full-blown trial. No

Moving to Cleveland in mid June (we want to buy and need help)...
^But be mindful that those streets have a LOT of rentals. That's why it is so popular with Case students. That said, there are some homes around that area which have a great view of downtown from the attic window.

Cycling Advocacy
My wife and I bought bikes last summer. Both are Raleigh's and we have been pleased with the purchases. I might of made the decision based a bit off of nostalgia as I used to have a Raleigh Racer when I was a kid. We bought them from a place on Taylor Rd in CH called Fitness Cycle or Cycle Fitness (can't remember). I think they cost just under $300.00. Mine is a 21-speed hybrid road/mountain bike. The tread on the tires is good enough to take off-road, but not too bumpy to ride on the street. Hers is a 7-speed "comfort" bike, sort of like what we used to call a "beach cruiser". Her tread is much more smooth and her handle bars are placed higher for much more of an upright sitting position. Mine has shocks on the front and hers has shocks under the seat. They ride very differently but both are great bikes from what I can tell. The place I bought them from also does free adjustments within 90 days of purchase. All that said, I am no bike eficianado by any means. I know there are other posters who are much more in to this kind of thing. The only caveat I would add is that I really highly recommend a hybrid bike if you are only going to own one. That way, you can get your road bike exercise and still have fun in the dirt.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
And don't forget about Drew Carey. The next non-Clevelander I meet who asks me if I know Drew Carey is getting a slap on the back of the head.

Cleveland Metro Population
Every chance you get Edale. Every chance you get. Why don't you take a break for a month or two of hating on Cleveland and throwing little subtle jabs. Sadly, it just comes across as some kind of weird insecurity. I wouldn't jump to conclusions, but your record speaks for itself.

Cleveland Metro Population
I wasn't talking about growth expansion. I was simply just railing on that way they measure our metro pop, which, as said above, is insane. Given the same land mass as other metro areas around the country and Cleveland's metro pop is far above what it is currently reported at.

Cleveland Metro Population
We just need to redefine what should be appropriately considered our true metro population. The fact that Akron is not considered part of our metro, but Newark is part of NYC's is just absurd IMO. We have some good debates on here about Cincy/Dayton and Cleveland/Akron being in singular metro areas in reality, even if the census does not treat them that way. However, one thing I thought of over the weekend that is rarely brought up is how the lake factors into this. Unlike Cincy, we have a firm northern boundary. Our metro pop obviously does not extend into the lake the way that Cincy's does into Ky and Indiana. Therefore, by cutting out Summit County, we are only measuring a geographic area that is about 15 miles (if that) deep. Cincy's probably goes 25 miles or so in every direction from downtown.
