I initially thought it was a smokescreen to make Washington give up Jamison and/or Indy give up Murphy without us including JJ in the package... basically as a straight salary dump for Z (who would be waived and re-signed by us in 30 days). Both Washington and Indy want/need to dump those contracts. Their GMs might even have firm directives from the owners to do so. If Ferry could convince them that he could have Amare for the same package they are asking for either of those two, he would gain some leverage because there would no incentive not to make that deal over the other two. Amare is younger and more athletic than either Jamison or Murphy. Ferry and Kerr and old buddies and teammates, and I figured Kerr was agreeable to this smokescreen because it would increase his bargaining power with Philly and Miami over Stoudamire. That was my kneejerk reaction to the news. I could be wrong. I certainly would welcome Stoudamire as an addition to this club, especially if all we are essentially giving up is Hickson.
  2. Bratenahl is not much of a "family" neighborhood IMO. More of an older crowd down that way. To toss another hat in the ring, check out Highland Hts. It would be at about the extent of your territorial limit, but probably faster to get to CWRU than most parts of Mayfield and Pepper Pike. HH is often rated as the top suburb on the east side. Part of the Mayfield school district and great city services. But much more "suburban" than Shaker and CH if that matters to you. Houses are newer so the utilities won't get as outrageous as they can in some of the pre-war homes of those other neighborhoods. Mayfield Village is comparable to HH, so you may want to include that as well. Good luck Good luck
  3. The "impact" effect is why I don't run. I tore up my knee both my junior and senior years in college so I am more sensitive than most. But I try to stay away from road running and treadmills. That's why my bike has been a great cardio pick up for me... and it suprisingly gives more than I thought toward working the upper body, especially when I take it off-road. I have a stationary at home but it is really hard to get a decent workout on that alone and elypticals are worthless IMO.
  4. In Cleveland itself, I would say the area around Garden Valley although I am not too knowledgeable about the aforementioned west side nabes. Glenville has some bad parts, but also some very nice parts IMO. On a whole, it cannot be considered the worst. In the Cleveland area, it is definitely EC due to density of population and lack of an adequate safety force presence.

    Congrats on the marriage Hoot!
  6. I am sure that if the lake is incorporated, it will be in an enclosed/filtered manner that will control the habitat and provide a clean place for the little fishies to swim. I personally don't want to pay to see any deformed fish so I can learn how they got that way and what to do different in the future. Not saying I am not interested in that information or would welcome any such efforts to educate the public.... I just don't want to pay an admission price to recieve it.

Parents who seem to ignore their kid's BO. At the Cavs game last night, the couple that usually sits in front of me had either given away or sold their tix to a guy and his son. The kid was a grungy type, probably around 14 or 15 yrs old. He stunk to all high heaven, like he hadn't changed his underwear or showered in 2 months. Just a real foul, musty smell. How do you let your kid leave the house in such a state? I don't even have that strong of a sense of smell and I could barely stand it.
  8. I like the location of this proposed aquarium MUCH better, so long as they somehow incorporate the lake. It seems silly to have an aquarium in Cleveland and not use the lake in some manner similar to how Chicago's Shedd Aquarium does. However, I did love the "tunnel" idea for the Powerhouse concept and hope they steal that idea. It gives it that smack of uniqueness that you won't find in other American aquariums, Shedd (the granddaddy of them all) included.

^Either you are just not "into" your routine yet, over exerting yourself, not properly stretching both before or after the workout, or you are not giving your muscles enough time to heal from previous workouts. Unless you are training for something specific, I would be careful in how much weight you are working with on your legs. As you get older, your joints won't react as well to the strain and you could end up tearing something. One common mistake people make is not ensuring that their quads and hamstring muscles are growing and gaining strength at a similar pace. If one gets too strong for the other, 'snap' goes the knee. Try working with lighter weights and higher reps. You won't get the "bulk" that comes along with really heavy lifting but you will get better results in terms of cardio and toning. JMHO.
  10. I would suspect that, if anything, the exact opposite would occur.

I don't like it when people "say" - "so I says to the guy...."
  12. Not as preposterous as the Mall C fiasco ;)

^And their salaries are supplemented for doing so. IMO, doing away with compulsory attendance laws is not the answer. The answer lies more in separating those students who are a disruption from those who genuinely are there to learn and/or not disrupt others in that pursuit. When I went to Cle Hts High, we had Taylor Academy a few blocks away that was for the kids who were outright disruptions and/or needed a more structured environment to thrive. I believe that program was cut for budgetary reasons, but am not sure.

^Not in all cases. Private school teachers often have a much easier job due to more interested parents and more disciplined students. Smaller classes helps for sure. They also often get free meals for lunch and may have longer summers depending on the school's schedule. Additionally, public schools sometimes have additional requirements (coaching or other extracurricular involvement) that private schools do not.
  15. I know that CH was seeking to declare the old establishment where Melt is a public nuisance. Not sure how that played out and whether there are any issues with that litigation that might be holding the project up.
  16. So... if Gilbert is spending $600 mill on the casino alone (right?) then we should be the envy of just about anything outside of Vegas, correct?

^Right... sorry. That was during my time at Ocksford. Fuzzy days.

JMO, but resumes carry very little weight on informal internet forums. After all, I was a Roads Scholar and nobody seems to listen to me. To respond to the topic, america has already risen. We are still the greatest nation despite our numerous flaws. While you will always hear the hell in a hand basket argument from the older generation and those who are inately pessimistic, be mindful not to lose sight of the forest while staring at all the trees. Our system and society is in a. Continuing state of evolution. We will never be perfect and other nations will surpass us here and there on a variety of issues, but our overall package is still #1 and, IMO, will be for the foreseeable future. Now matter how much you may dislike TPTB at any given time for any given reason, don't underestimate the power of our society to overcome any roadbumps and excel as one.
  19. If that is really a concern, Gilbert could have a model of the full-blown $600m casino very visible within the temporary one. Anyone know how much was spent for construction of the MGM in Detroit?
  20. Ohio's Supreme Court decided that Ohio's law on eminent domain has a more stringent standard than that announced in the Conn. case. The County cannot take the property simply because it will reap more economic benefit with a different use.

Sorry Scav. I don't know how else to describe it. Not that I didn't like it. I'll look forward to the official release.

Now I remember. They did get taken down. I definitely remember the cube/gem/hexagon/whatever on the corner of Mayfield and Euclid.
  23. +1 on Tyler Village. Could be a perfect fit.
  24. Just like the Mall C episode, I suspect it is a negotiating tactic. I don't blame the owner for getting all he/she can, but what is on the table now is well above FMV from what I've heard.
