Here's another question - does the 2nd Amendment grant us the right to "conceal" a weapon on our person while in public? Or is that right simply granted by State law.

I have met a few, but not many, folks from the Cincy area at Cavs games. But out of town attendees from Erie, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Western NY, and WVa are much more common. The Cavs have a market that is geographically broader than the other Cleveland sports teams with no NBA franchise in Cincy, Pittsburgh or Buffalo. Alot of the "border" wars or battles over C-Bus we see with the Browns and Indians simply doesn't exist for the Cavs. And as a Cavs fan, I welcome all Cincinnatians who want to jump on board the bandwagon and support an Ohio team. There's still plenty of room :-D
  3. At least Cincinnati doesn't have to look to Columbus for a winning sports team, and actually has two universities with national calliber athletics. Why do you take the bait? If you feed the strays, they will keep coming back. And, BTW, we root for the Buckeyes because they are the OHIO State Buckeyes... not the Columbus Buckeyes. NEO also supplies more than its fair share of the Buckeyes' talent. But regardless, I am going to see a "winning" PROFESSIONAL sports team this Thursday in downtown Cleveland so I don't get your Columbus comment at all.

In basketball, I would guess that the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies are candidates for relocation. We'll see if Toronto hangs on after the Bosh era is over (and it's over). And I am not sold on Memphis being a pro sports team town. The Clippers should go back to San Diego so they can be relevant again. Seattle deserves to get a team back as well and, if Memphis did move, Cincy would have to be considered given the lack of proximity to any NBA team. But I have heard a lot about a possible franchise in Vegas and I don't think Stern would pass up that chance if gambling could be made a non-issue. One last thing on the NBA - they should mandate that Utah return the "Jazz" name to NOLA. They could rename themselves the "caucasions" :-D For Football, its Jacksonville. Unless Tebow comes in and saves that franchise, it will be gone in just a few years. Either disbanded or relocated. If relocated, Texas probably could and would support another team in SA. Portland and Vegas would also be considerations I would look into. But LA will eventually get another team and I would think they might be first choice. In baseball, who the F cares. The league should be dwindled down the the Yankees, Red Sox and whatever other singular team is relevant at the moment anyway. For Hockey... bring a team back to Cleveland and I might have the requisite knowledge to even address the question.
  5. We didn''t "lose" our team. Modell and Baltimore stole them. How can that possibly be an indictment against the fans or the City? The NFL recognized the great, great fanbase we have, as well as the injustice done by the move, and left the franchise - colors, record books, etc. What other City/fanbase has the NFL done that for? Houston (Oilers) - no. LA (Rams or Raiders) - no. Baltimore (Colts) - no. Well, with all due respect to the fan base it was lawsuits, and a final feeling of remorse from Modell that left the name and colors in Clevelend on a technicality. You forgot about the congressional hearings, protests in Cleveland and Pittsburgh (of all places) and the NFL-led talks between the two cities and Modell which led to the Browns merely being "deactivated" by the NFL for three years. I lived through it. To call it a "technicality" that we kept our name, records and colors... that's just ridiculous.
  6. Request a copy of the "incident report." Do a public records request if they won't just let you see it.

I hear ya Robert. My grandmother is the the most vain 98 yr old woman you will ever meet - bless her heart - and she refuses to wear her hearing aid. Worse yet, she pretends she can hear you when she can't so you never really know when you have effectively communicated something to her.
  9. That's "Black's and Gilbert" in 327 language MTS.

The area is also saturated with residents though. As you know, there are no vacant swaths of land or streets of boarded up houses around there. It is a pretty dense inner ring atmosphere and traffic at that intersection is not the best. Not that I would oppose it, but I have some skepticism about the type of residences the designs call for. New condo/apartments don't sell well in the heights area at the moment. Take the Bluestone Development on Mayfield for example. They are killing it with the clusters and selling those out shortly after they are built. But the apartment building is moving really slow and they, in fact, scrapped plans for another building on the east side of the entrance in favor of more clusters or brownstones. If they really want more residents in that area, they might be better off considering building a dead end street running west-east at the south end of this parcel that would run parallel to streets like Warrendale just to the north. I realize that would not afford them the first floor retail they are looking for but it may force them to build the commercial structures in a denser manner.
  11. Any other examples of beaches being built up against bulkheads? Seems like it would be more of a sandbox than a beach.

Yes... I do. A DVD player is built into my home theatre system so I don't have much choice. Plus, I want the BR hooked up to my Plasma and I want to be able to watch my old DVD's on there as well. Nothing against my LCD, but it doesn't compare in my mind. It's all about the deep blacks that I get out of the Vierra.

I play BR's in my BR player and DVD's in my DVD player. I don't mix. You're right that the discs may be programmed that way, but I don't remember ever having that issue with DVD's. But that still doesn't explain that I can vaccuum my basement in the time it takes for my BR player to turn on and get to the point where I can insert a disc. All that is before the "load" process begins. Due to these burdens, I only get BR's if I think the movie is worth watching with that enhancement. Ironman and the new Star Trek were both awesome on blu-ray. But movies like The Hangover I would just get on regular DVD.

Question for the tech geeks that might lurk on this forum: I bought a Sony Blu-Ray player about 6 months ago. Love the picture, sound and everything, but it is unbearably slow in turning on, loading the disc and getting to the point where I can actually watch the movie. It makes me watch or FF through all the previews... I cannot skip straight to menu. And, for some discs, there is not even a scene selection option. Am I doing something wrong or is this all just the kinks that customarily accompany new technology.
  15. At what phase are comments/critiques on design acceptable?

That's good to hear. That is my biggest disappointment with the development on the south side of Cedar Road. What "development" are you referring to? Whole Food was built right up to the street and so was University Square. Cedar Center south was not rebuilt, just refurbished with new facades and signage.
  17. One interesting factor in play here that some do not know about is the small, private residential street abutting on the west end of the club. It is not a public right of way. It is totally private. They pay for their own street repairs and even their sewer work. These people will have a say in any variance request the City receives and are exactly the types that will make a big legal stink out of it.
  18. Paladar is good South American food. Impressive fish selection IIRC. But Marbella right down the street (Mallorca's sister restaraunt) is usually the reason I head that way to eat, especially since Charlie's Crab closed down.

  20. Another article about Oakwood - http://www.cleveland.com/sun/all/index.ssf/2010/01/oakwood_club_and_mayfield_sand.html Mayor Ed Kelley said an ideal use for the land, which includes Oakwood’s 55,000 square-foot clubhouse, would be a park or another golf course. “I think this would be a good opportunity,” he said. “This is probably the most desirable site for development in Cuyahoga County because of its size and location.” Kelley said the land is zoned for single-family use, but a developer could propose any type of development and ask for variances to make it comply with city code.

Cedar Center proposal in South Euclid increases in size By Jeff Piorkowski January 14, 2010, 7:45AM SOUTH EUCLID Cedar Center redevelopment plans are moving ahead, in a good way. Preliminary, first-phase site plans submitted by the Coral Co., the local developer of what will be called Cedar Center North on Warrensville Center and Cedar roads, show the company is planning to build about 8,000 square feet more of retail and restaurant space than plans showed in August. New plans call for 34,580 square feet of retail and restaurant space to be developed in the first of four building phases at the site. .................. The new plans also show 16-foot-wide “greenways” will be installed in front of, and connecting, each building. The greenways will each include a wide walkway. .................. Rubin said the green space is a necessary piece to the puzzle, in that its urban openness creates a destination. .................. Finally, three of the first-phase buildings will be constructed closer to Cedar Road than originally planned in order to create more of a street connection and presence. The complete plans can be found on the South Euclid Web site, cityofsoutheuclid.com. FULL STORY: http://www.cleveland.com/sun/all/index.ssf/2010/01/cedar_center_proposal_in_south.html
  22. They're the bad, bad Cleveland Browns the baddest team in the whole damn town they're badder than a team should be they're gonna win the AFC.
  23. That surpises me. Browns playoff tix would be the hottest item in town.... IF we ever hosted a playoff game. But I can remember when I was a kid and the Browns were perrenial playoff contenders. The City went mad. Songs were written about them. Too bad the younger generation has not gotten to experience all that hoopla..... YET! Re the Bengals losing to the Jets this past weekend, I hate to say I told you so. Well... that's not true - TOLD YOU SO! Terrible plan for Week 17.
  24. My thoughts exactly re the roof. But the overall design is not unbearable. For the roof, I was actually hoping that they might be able to add some height with an intriguing design and get around that DT cleveland 21 floor rule.
  25. Maybe it wasn't an alarming rate, but there was a significant jump at the turn of the Century. For instance, my dad sold his 3 bdrm, 1 1/2 bath colonial in Cleveland Heights for $79,000 in 1995 or 1996, which was FMV at the time. When my wife and I were looking for a house in 2004, that same house sold for $149,000 and no major renovations had been done. Of course, that was at the top of the "bubble" so I assume that same house would presently be valued at somewhere between the two prices.
