Cleveland: Churches on the Eastside
Correct.... just north of Fairmount, where Monmouth intersects with Lee I believe. There are also a bunch of churches at the Coventry/Fairmount intersection and some heading east on Fairmount past Lee. As far as asthetics go, they are all gems.

Cleveland: Churches on the Eastside
Look at the churches near the Shaker Hts / Cleveland Hts border. I don't know much about them, but I believe there are a few Presbyterian churches along Fairmount. The buildings are stunningly gorgeous. I don't attend Church, but my mom attends and really likes Plymouth Church just south of Shaker Blvd and Coventry right on the Cleveland border. It is a UCC church. Non-denominational. Open and accepting. Somewhat diverse, albeit a little high on the average wealth of attendees given the location. But everyone seems down to earth, very nice and non-judgmental.

Dog-Friendly Bars in Cleveland
Not to turn this into a dog vs. cat thread, but... I find cat owners curious. You do realize that possibly the only reason your cat doesn't kill you (just for the fun of it) is because you are too big? I realize all cats are not the same, but house cats in general are perhaps the crulest animals on earth (even topping humans). Disclaimer: I have two (they came with the wife). One of my cats just wants to spend all day outside terrorizing anything that moves. He kills for fun. Rabits, chipmunks, baby squirells, mice, moles, birds. Not to channel Jodie Foster, but I hear the screams. Basically anything that moves and is small enough for him to overpower, he will maul. He doesn't eat them... just decorates our yard (and a few neighbors' yards) with the (often headless) carcasses. On the dog in bars issue, I used to take my dog (when he was a puppy) to a few bars when I lived in NC. Haven't found any up here, but not looking either. Now that he is all grown up, I have a 100 pound german shepherd and people tend to tighten up around him. I just leave him in the car and he is fine with that. While in LA, I was amazed at where I saw dogs. People take them everywhere.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Ughhh.... I was at that game. Ha! I see that disaster hangs around with other Browns fans. That game was against Kansas City wasn't it? Yes, it was against KC. The fans who attended were still trying to figure out what the hell happened on our way out of the stadium. Rudd wraps up Trent Green at about KC's 40 yard line as time expires. Green fumbles on the way down but Rudd doesn't realize it and rips his helmet off in glee. A KC lineman picks up the fumble and rumbles down inside our 20. Time expired, but the game can't end on a defensive penalty and KC was allowed to run one play... the winning field goal. It might have been bottlegate x10 if the fans who were at the game actually knew what had happened.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
I don't think that was true for this past presidential election. I don't doubt that it is a generally accurate political indicator, but I would bet the Columbus metro is an even better one.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
I thought there was some litigation about that space... or was that Chinato?

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
But if you did get that dreaded lust glare (which not all women find offensive says the girl with her boobs hanging out of her shirt) in THAT situation, I certainly hope you would not have blamed the GUY ;) Thanks for the future ammo!

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Ehh... I am not sure the deal will not result in the a windfall for the Sportsman's owners. Perhaps they are just haggling over how much of a windfall it will be. The threat of eminent domain use is just that IMO - a threat. And a rather clever negoiation tactic also since, as explained above, it has some teeth

And that's why I said I'm "sorry" for making the assumptions big guy. But also - although sparked by her comments about the train ride - the post was more of a general comment in line with the entire conversation. It was just a comment I tossed out there. Food for thought. Something I have personally witnessed on NUMEROUS occasions throughout my life. You and she took it as a personal attack, which it was not.

Cleveland Area: American Greetings HQ relocation?
I saw some comment that claimed the 4 controlling members live in the UH-Beachwood area around Green Road.

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
I don't do that, or lock my doors when I drive by a black person, or cross the street when I see one coming. Come ON. My body posture these days is largely one of exhausted and not much else. I certainly don't act like I'm guarding my bags or something, jeez. Sorry for the assumptions, but judging from your earlier posts it just seems like you might be that type of person. Surely, you can acknowledge that there are many, many white people who do act that way.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
Well, I guess they must have removed the sign like the earlier poster said... because over the summer, I saw car after car get pulled over doing just that.

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
It's just that the Irish immigrants and the issues they faced are probably the best example we have to prove the environment over nature argument. It's nothing racist or offensive.

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
Does anyone ever consider the possibility that the looks you recieve are a response to your own posture? For example, if you grip your purse when a black guy walks by, you can expect a dirty look. Consciously and subconciously, people use and pick up on body language more than one might think.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
But it was a great source of funds for the City with all those traffic tickets of morons trying to scoot through on the bus lane.

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
That's going a little too far. I don't doubt that she was riding the train with a bunch of A-holes who were giving her dirty looks. It happens. But R&R, I must say congratulations on so far avoiding "White Thug".... he is out there and multiplying by the day.

Cleveland Area: American Greetings HQ relocation?
It's not like they are either going to move to downtown or stay in Brooklyn. Then, I could understand your point. But if they are moving REGARDLESS, we might as well wish they go downtown. That would be better for Brooklyn than AG moving out to Avon. What's good for the goose...

Whitopia: A controversial view of sprawl
People kill me when they say stuff like this. Do they really believe one's race has anything to do with them being involved or victim to crime? Is it because they are victims of 400 years of a systematically racist justice (and economic) system or do you think crime is just in they DNA? Let us be for real. rofl at "the crime gene". I don't think any african americans where involved with the decision to destroy Nagasaki. Massacres in Jenin? nope, white folk there as well. Oh i forgot to mention the complete destruction of native american peoples and culture. Genocide America refuses to even honor with a holiday. White crime against people of color. Yeah police might arrest and judges will convict (most for nonviolent drug crime) black people more often but i assure you dangerous drugs aren't brought into america by your average working class street peddler. No crime gene; just a living in a culture that facilitates crime. It's not relfective of the race, just the culture of the community people live in. True, but there are still other factors which lead to these "statistical facts"... like the fact that the conviction rate is higher and sentencing is longer amongst AA criminal defendants. That too is a "statistical fact." It could be due to the racist sentiments of the judge and/or jury and/or prosecutor and/or public defenders. It could be due to the fact that black's on a whole have less money and are less likely to be able to afford good legal counsel. It could be because of arbitrary rules such as the fact that crack cocaine crimes are punished much more severely than powder cocaine crimes. There are a lot of factors that lead to a higher crime rate, socio-economic probably up front, but other collateral factors people too often ignore. To R&R - I would suspect you might have the same experiences if you were riding on a train with a bunch of rednecks leaving a nascar event. But I do feel sorry for you that you had boys hitting on you and being rude when rejected in HS... no girl should ever have to endure such treatment ;) To all dads - send your daughters to an all white school and spare them the misery.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Devin Hester is overpaid and the Bears know it. He hasn't had a return TD since 2007 when he had 6 total. He's a serviceable WR, but not a $5 mil a year receiver. It would be a mistake to pay Cribbs any more than $3.2 million under his current contract. Just because the Bears overpaid for Hester doesn't mean the Browns are required to make the same mistake just because Cribbs is better return man (Hester is a better WR). Just my opinion. Cribbs and Hester are common, but bad points of of comparison. Yes, they are both kick returners/WRs but Cribbs' value extends beyond that. Don't forget that he is also our best kick coverage guy. And he is a guaranteed 5 yards nearly every time he touches the ball out of the backfield (wildcat, reverese, lined up at RB). You are correct that Hester is overpaid, but even Cribbs knows that. He is not asking for 5 mill/yr. He would sign for about half of that. If Steinbach and Corey Williams are worth 6 mill per, Cribbs has to be worth 3 mill. And as I said ealier, I would tell him tough shite but for the way NFL contracts work. If the owners can reneg when the players are playing under their contract or get hurt, the players should be able to do the same if they are playing above the pay grade.

Cleveland: Safety Force Layoffs
But these are contractual or 'for cause' (not at-will) employees. And they're civil servants entitled to the accompanying protections. They have much more leverage than most of the rest of us. The City cannot arbitrarily cut pay or do a reduction in force because it wants to or because it will generate money the City wants to use in other areas. Every few years the City gets to sit down at the bargaining table with these employees' unions and negotiate all the terms and conditions of the upcoming contract. If they can't agree, SERB steps in and sorts things out because strikes and lockouts are illegal for the safety forces. It's a clean process actually, like an arbitration. This is not clean at all. The unions probably don't dispute that the City must slash budget. And they probably acknowledge the necessity which has caused the City to need to reneg (in some form) on the contracts. They just likely have their own ideas on other or less 'drastic' measures and that's what all the haggling is about. And that's what is going to land this baby in court just like '04. For instance, if the City determined it needed to slash 'x' amount of dollars off the CPD budget, wouldn't you expect the union body to have a few thoughts on how to do so with either no or less severe paycuts and layoffs? And wouldn't you expect those individuals to at least think they smell BS when sitting across the table from some white collar City negotiator drawing hard lines in the sand based on information given to him by those that serve 'at the will of' the Mayor (his appointees)? Just saying....

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Smart move. I have seen the Browns play well in stints since they returned. The playoff season earlier in the decade and 2007 come to mind. BUT, not until the past 6 games of this season, had I seen them play like the "Cleveland Browns" that I remember watching back in the day. Run down your throat offense and hit you in your mouth defense. That's how we do, dawg!
-
Cleveland: Safety Force Layoffs
^And the unions certainly don't want that either I'm sure. We have a good ole fashioned staredown taking place. It's a negotiation process and I wouldn't have expected the unions to just cower at the threat of layoffs and accept the first offer the City made. There could be creative ways to deal with this issue - such as adjusting overtime compensation - that might get worked out where nobody gets laid off and the pay cut is not at the level of 4%. It is not as if the unions won't take a paycut... they just want to negotiate over what the pay cut will be as is required by Ohio's collective bargaining laws. And negotiating they are, albeit with little apparent success. Next stop I'm sure will be 1200 Ontario Street.

Cleveland: Safety Force Layoffs
4% paycut I believe. Mixed stories on this issue will lead one to sway one way or the other depending on who you are getting your info from. The administration will attempt to demonize the unions and the unions will attempt to demonize the administration. Both will make very convincing and persuasive arguments.

Steal 'em away Frank. I won't hold it against you.
