FYI - The State of LGBT Rights: Ohio, America, and the World Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Moot Court Room Friday October 30, 2009 Free and Open to the Public RSVP's are appreciated but not required - http://www.law.csuohio.edu/lawlibrary/resources/lawpubs/lgbt.html Looks like it starts at 1 and ends around 5:30, but I would expect a heavy Q&A afterwords. I will be attending.
  2. I knew it was coming, but I started hearing "No on 3" ads on the radio today. I expect a full scale assault leading up to election day.

Despite its great "bones", that neighborhood will never recover... at least no in my lifetime. And I am OK with that. Geographically speaking, it is exactly where the ghetto (and every major city has more than one) should be for several reasons - far from the lake but not too far from downtown and UC, close to the projects, and lots of public transportation and highway access.
  4. +1... and I really know next to nothing about Issue 2.
  5. I don't know the name of it, but there is a storage place on Warrensville Center Rd just north of mayfield before it merges with Noble. Fairly new place. It is right across the street from Pete's Tavern. I might drive by it later and will pm you the phone # It is prob about 10 mins northwest of Beachwood mall

There is a place in Cle Hts on Noble Road just north of Monticello called Charlie's Fabric. I believe my wife had new foam cut there for one of our couches. Really, you could try just about an upholstery shop and they should be able to cut them for you

Random question: does anybody know what the original use of the building which houses the Winking Lizard in Lakewood.

^^ My guess would be that 3231 lived either around Coventry or Cedar-Fairmount. Lots of grad students in those areas, but some yuppies mixed in. You are more likely to find yuppies in Hts off Lee Rd (Scarborough, Fairfax, etc.) and the streets off Fairmount to the east of Lee... or the Forrest Hills neighborhood... or the area between Cleveland Hts Blvd. and Taylor. I get the point though. The yuppies I am referring to are usually married with small children living in single family homes. As far as apartment dwellers, Hts is much more attractive to and popular with grad students.
  9. ^Ugh. I hope you are not talking about the type of pseudo-Greek/Roman style architecture used on certain chain restaraunts. The TC developers had some success IMO blending Skylight Office Tower and the Ritz, but for the Casino, I don't see anything wrong with something that stands out.
  10. referring to the student center? it won't be "pink" for long... there will be a surface material applied to the non brick areas. Thanks for the clarification. CSU is really on a roll! Good to see. So much potential there for the school to provide that long-needed, REAL college presence to downtown.
  11. Thanks Mayor! Love the design.... hate the color

DQ52 out for the year with a shoulder injury. Paging Mr. Maiava.... Mr. Maiava to the front desk please....
  14. I do NOT like the Canal Road site. Scranton Peninsula would not be catastrophic but, of the three sites from the map linked in that article, the area behind TC is a no-brainer IMHO.... especially if it is built up to street level (like the old renderings of the CC/MM), providing a presence on the south side of Huron Rd. A front door on Huron would do wonders for that part of downtown.
  15. Looks great back then. Today, that is one of the more troubled intersections in Cleveland. The traffic is heavy... but at least the long waits allow you time to get a good window washing from one of the vagrants who come knocking on your window. And that Marathon is a "hot spot" on the weekends after the clubs/bars close. I am not a Negative Nancy by any means when it comes to Cleveland, but IMHO this area and anywhere to the south and east of it is and SHOULD BE the City's ghetto.

Two quick notes about Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards. Did anyone else find it unfair to rip the rookie even though two of his interceptions were tipped after hitting Edwards in the hands? That is what Jets fans can expect with Edwards, because even with his great talent, he comes with questionable hands. Also take a look at the highlights from yesterday’s game, I believe Edwards was the target on all five interceptions. I have to wonder if Ryan, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and Sanchez aren’t trying to keep the star receiver happy by targeting him, even if it means forcing the ball into coverage. http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/...1WiJZW4rvHXiffM
  17. Welcome Coneybear  Nothing is "actually happening" until ground is broke, but "all systems are a go" if you know what I mean. Read the last 15-20 pages of this thread and you will be caught up to speed. You can also check out this website - http://clevelandmedicalmart.com/

I'm pretty sure it is the casino near Erie, Pa. 100 miles give or take a few.
  19. I have to venture out to Chardon every now and then for work. It is a nice little town. Highway access sucks though... and the comments about being in the heart of the snow belt are dead on - you don't ever want to try to find your way back to CLE from Chardon in a snowstorm. What we consider a storm, the local consider a sprinkle.
  20. I tell people all the time that they would be surprised by the "culture" here. Say what you will about other aspects of our City - CMA, PHS and Severance Hall are all crown jewels. I imagine the RRHOF carried some weight in the museum category.
  21. I thought it was built on a combination of dredgings and burned garbage?
  22. The eateries in the Galleria live and die on the lunch crowd. It is fairly busy in there around lunch. I went to a seminar in the Galleria last year and McDonald's was the only place that really didn't have much of a line.... so I guess that answers your question.

Nice job by the red team's coach here knowing the rules - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFWIzoxYQ4s&feature=player_embedded# I assume this one has been posted somewhere upthread, but just in case....

Rapid, schmapid. Coventry has all of the following: Great selection of eateries (at least for those that have a $600 rent budget): 1) Chinese food (Hunan on Coventry - rated best in Greater Cleveland) 2) Tommy's (great veggie selection) 3) Sushi (Pacific East) 4) Sub shops (Grums, Dave's Cosmic Subs, and Jimmy John's) 5) Mongolian Barbeque 6) Tree Bistro (Japanese, Korean, Thai) 7) Guy's Pizza Co. 8) Other choices such as Chipotle, Gepetto's and a multitude of bars and grilles (see below) Great selection of bars/grilles/nightlife: 1) Panini's 2) Johnny Malloys 3) McNulty's 4) Winking Lizard 5) La Cave Du Vin (Wine Bar/Room) Great retail: 1) Record Exchange 2) Big Fun (best nostalgia store in Ohio) 3) Heights Hardware 4) Marc's (discount grocer and pharmacy) 5) Sunshine (leather and head shop) 6) City Buddha 7) Laura Lee Salon 8) Revolution Books 9) Many, many more unique shops (see link below) Entertainment Venues: 1) Grog Shop 2) B Side Lounge Services: 1) Laundromat 2) Dry Cleaners 3) The Recreation Center is just down the street Other plusses include being within walking distance of Little Italy and a nice park at the top of the street if you do grow your family in the near future. Now.... based on all of the above, I will put Coventry up to the Pepsi Challenge against Shaker Square any day. Find out for yourself though - http://www.coventryvillage.org/
  25. How do bars, restaraunts, clubs, etc. (that are not connected to casinos) fare in Vegas? My opinion would be that if they can survive there, then they will survive here. There is always some take-away when a new entertainment venue opens - i.e. the WHD took business away from the East Bank of the Flats. I, for one, will check out the Casino if/when it opens, but I highly doubt it will stop the wifey and I from frequenting E. 4th or PHS.... nor will it stop my (every so often) "Dudes' Night Out" ventures from storming the WHD or Shooters.
