The Official * I Hate Barkley * Thread
You're gonna have to send out a lot of emails. Negative statements about Cleveland are in the media all the time. Is it better to have negative coverage (Cleveland) or no coverage at all (Cincy)?..... hmmmmm, tough one. NOTE: To all Cincinnatians not named "David" - I have respect for my fellow Ohio big city... I am just playing along with this kid who is trying his best to pick a fight. Sadly, the wife and kid both fell asleep already and I have nothing better to do.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I agree with the idea of trading down, but disagree with most of the rest. I am not convinced that Curry will be off the board. KC could very well take him, but I don't see anybody else in front of us using that high of a draft pick on a player that in other, more top-heavy drafts would be in the 10-20 range. Orakpo should not remind you of Wimbley at all. Wimbley was a one-yr wonder at Florida St. (did not start until his senior year) and was likely the beneficiary of offensive blocking schemes focusing on FSU's other, more star-powered players, such as Ernie Sims and Buster Davis. Orakpo was the focus of many double teams, being Texas's biggest name player on defense this past year and still produced. He also would be a strong side LB for us whereas Wimbley has to play the weakside. Orakpo also has a much better motor and... gasp... a mean streak. Finally, I feel that Crabtree and BE would make an excellent combo. BE would be the big play threat and Crabtree would fill the role of possession receiver. The short route passing system of Texas Tech has set him up to be a bigger and more athletic version of Wes Welker. I don't see the two of them butting heads, and judging from other off-season moves (and car "accidents") I am now predicting he will be the pick at #5 if still there and both Monroe and Curry are gone.

Cleveland: Weston / Gilbane Warehouse District Plans
I've seen that view from near the top of 55, it is nice. However, you are lucky that the Ameritrust Tower was never built ;)

Cleveland: Weston / Gilbane Warehouse District Plans
Obviously, I preffered Stark's plan to build all in one phase. But maybe this is just more practical and realistic. 327 was correct as to this being the ideal location for law firms. It is centrally located between the County/Municipal courts, the Federal Courthouse, bankruptcy court, the State agencies building and the County admin building. This is why 55 and 75 public square addresses are so popular for downtown firms even though a lot of the offices in those buildings are pretty crappy IMO save for a few.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The Celts pulled it off. Hell of an effort from Miami though. Chances are we will either be playing Atlanta or Miami in the second round. I don't like either matchup. Neither are likely to be swept and could wear us down a bit. Luckily Orlando and Boston should be beating up on each other at the same time.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Bulls won. 4 1/2 up on the Celts and 5 up on the Magic. With 15 games to go, home court throughout the East is all but locked up. Sixers are tied with the Lakers at the half. LA holds the tie breaker with us so we got to better them in the W-L column to secure homecourt in the finals.

Ugh... Ms. Benita. Haaaaaated it. Best game of the season tonight IMO. Both teams played well. Cavs gutted it out.

I heard Lebron was seen this afternoon eating a cheesestake hoagie and soft pretzel. This leads me to believe that he is going to sign with Philadelphia in 2010.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I was going to see the paper because I heard there was a full pg. FCE ad. It was in SUNDAY's paper. Anyone have it? Try this, http://riverfrontcc.net/collateral/final_ForestCity_ad.pdf FCE is painting the picture they want the public to see. First, I would be SHOCKED if their construction would be done a full year ahead of any plans for the current site... particularly b/c of their need to straighten colission bend. Second, how would continued operation of the current CC (while the TC is under construction) in its current state have an economic benefit on the region. Doesn't the CC cause the City to LOSE money each year due to its low use and high operating expense even with the County subsidizing the costs. Finally, they show an image from Huron which seems to suggest the possibility of some enhanced street activity, but fail to discuss how the infrastructure around that area would be improved to be more pedestrian friendly. There are few areas of town that are more intimidating to pedestrians than Huron/Ontario. Very wide and busy intersection, cars coming from every direction, the behemoth TC/TT/Landmark complex to walk around unless you want to walk through TC (surely FCE's goal). All that said, I do like the rendering.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Good point with regard to SI alumni. Some of the proudest out there. For example, QUESTION: How do you know if someone you are talking to graduated from St. Ignatius? ANSWER: They'll tell you. :)

Which finger pier to the west would be connected to Voinovich park by the bridge? The article is not clear to me on that point.

What is a "no complete clause"? Did you mean "non-compete"?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The Clippers are a LOT better than there record indicates. They just got Kaman back from injury. Baron Davis is starting to get settled in. Eric Gordon is one of the best rookies and improving every game. They just beat Boston last week. Just saying that steamrolling the clips on the road would be nice, but our failure to do so does not make us vulnerable. These types of wins are more valuable than blowouts. It teaches the team how to keep their chin up and the chest out dealing with adversity. Perhaps our worst shooting performance of the season and we still won. I was more than happy to sacrafice an hour or two of sleep to witness that comeback.

Friend Moving to CLE from NY/NJ
I am creating this thread looking for some guidance that I can pass along to one of my wife's best friends who was just accepted to CWRU nursing school. She is from New Jersey and currently lives in Jersey City. Late 20's, single. She did not like the time she spent in Indiana at IU (undergrad). Her parents have retired to Little Miami, but she does not like it there either. I showed her Cleveland and she loved the culture that she said was lacking during her experience at IU. She is a proud Italian so I am leaning towards pushing her to Little Italy of course. I was just wondering what people know about the rental units in and around Little Italy. Prices? Availability? She will be starting in the fall. Does anyone know where most CWRU nursing students generally live and whether the nursing school is on MC or on UH's campus? It would be nice to put her within walking distance. Any other UC suggestions? What are the rental rates like at Park Lane Villa? Coventry will probably be option #2 and maybe even Shaker Square. I don't see her downtown.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Does the "Uptown project" consist of the mixed-use buildings planned for the lots on the northeast corner of Euclid/Ford/Mayfield AND the area around the Triangle/CIA? Or is it just one or the other? Are you aware of whether the financing contemplates phases or just one giant construction project? This is great news. That intersection is going to absolutely boom with life. Let's hope they take great care in ensuring that it somehow provides some much needed "walkability" to UC. It will be the center point between the education and cultural institutions of UC and Little Italy. Even without this project, you always see foot traffic in that area.

Cleveland's Biggest Eye-Sores
How about the north and east facades on 1211 St. Clair Ave. Other than that, there are a couple eyesores that stand out to me: - Every single office park along I-271 (Progressive, Chagrin Highlands, etc). - The south facade of the Landmark Office buildings (beautiful building I'm sure... underneath all that grime). - Christie's cabaret on the west bank (only until you walk inside) - The current state of the FEB - The surface lots separating the WHD from public square - Peter B. Lewis Building (IMHO)

Are you referring to the site selection or the "link" debate between MTS and GP. ;)

I would not consider the West Quad to be "main campus". It is near to the MC, but not part of the MC.

Cleveland+ Summer 08' Random Shots / Events
Great shots. I can't wait until the Terminal Tower gets its neck brace off.... it really puts a black eye on the skyline IMO. However, when it is done, it will have been well worth it.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Yeah I had this phase where I like wanted to be black in the early teen years...don't ask. lol What is it to "be black"? Based on your earlier posts, would it be wearing jerseys, playing b-ball and listening to Nappy Roots? Kind of j/k and I know you did not have any racial intent, but you should choose your words more carefully.... Maybe you "wanted to be hip-hop"? At least you didn't use the "W" word. As far as music, I have been lately re-realizing my love for Elton John's earlier work that I had forgot when I was too cool, or too "hip-hop", to admit that I like the guy's music. I really am all over the place, Otis - Rage - the Eagles - the Almond Bros - Linkin Park - Jay-Z - Alicia Keys - Aerosmith. I just like good music and don't really care about genres. I just downloaded some old Das Efx songs - brought me back to middle school.
