The Cavs are now 30-3 in 2015 in games in which our Big 3 plays.
  2. I think the point is that it is not the operation but the clientele, specifically the bad apples who spoil the bunch. You can close this place down, and really you must with recurrent instances like these, but the bad apples will just find another place to run out of business. It's a sad cycle with a solution, if there is one, far more complicated than closing down a single club
  3. ^Ah. The correct Old French spelling. Really.

    W 3rd?
  5. I have some doubts about Okafur..... at least in terms of him being a franchise savoir. He could potentially be a Tim Duncan type. But I see him more as an Al Jefferson. IMHO, the guy with the highest ceiling on this Duke squad is Justice Winslow. Okafur is a much safer bet, but some team might get very lucky with Winslow as a lower lottery pick.
  6. Dude with the hairy backhand does not have a future in the watch/ring modeling business
  7. Duke has had its share of busts, but some of that is due to unfortunate circumstance. Bobby Hurley and Jay Williams were both seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents before their careers ever really got started. Grant Hill was an established star and well on his way to perhaps becoming MJ"s successor when injuries ruined his career. Elton Brand has had a solid NBA career, and was an All-Star at one point, but injuries have also derailed him. In addition to the success of Brand and Hill, Duke has produced very good NBA players (or at least players who met expectations) in Kyrie Irving, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, Shane Battier, Corey Maggette, Johnny Dawkins, Chris Duhon, Gerald Henderson, the Plumlee brothers, Shelden Williams, Kyle Singler, Josh McRoberts, Dantay Jones, etc. Jabari Parker's sample size is small, but he showed his potential before getting hurt this year. There have certainly been some who have not lived up to expectations, but still had solid careers - Ferry, Christian Laetner, Mike Dunleavy, JJ Reddick, Austin Rivers. All out busts, that I can think of, are pretty much limited to William Avery and Langdon. Point being, this myth of the Duke busts is a little overblown IMO.

Both those teams (Indiana and Atlanta) play tonight. I know these are grown men, but I always wonder how their teams react to the news that the players were out until the wee-hours of the morning the night before a game. Most teams have morning shoot-arounds on game day, so it is not like they were planning on sleeping in and getting their 8 hours.
  9. I was watching the movie adaptation of Jersey Boys and there is a scene where the group is at what appeared to be the Ohio State Fair, which would've still been Columbus in the late 50s, right? Some Sheriff Deputy approaches them and says "welcome to Cleveland." The patch on his shoulder says Stark County
  10. Don't want who downtown?
  11. ^depending on who the victim is, mind you. I don't think this is a situation where you will find many people defending the cop.
  12. Hate crimes separate out the mental state of the offender. If you are going to get rid of them then why not get rid of different degrees of murder? A murder would be a murder regardless of whether it was pre-meditated or not
  13. I don't have to respect 'your' views which I don't view as worthy of respect.... particularly your stated views on gays and blacks. But again, you're not fooling me ;)
  14. I'm not biting. I still think this BCCLE1 character is a plant from some batsh!t crazy liberal wingnut organization
  15. Of course there would be, for the reasons I stated above. And I wasn't advancing anything, but rather including what a witness to the events mentioned up thread amongst the potential motivations. Sorry, but large groups of economically disadvantaged youth causing chaos in a crowd for the purposes of snatching purses, wallets, cell phones, tablets is a major issue in Brazil right now. Hardly inconceivable that it might happen here
  16. Naive? Come on, don't try to patronize. I didn't raise the question of race at all. And I tried to give all three alternatives of (1) hate filled reasons (2) no reason at all (ie simply for the 'fun' of it) and (3) for the purposes of stealing from the victim (such as the stories are from the beaches of RdJ). It is an interesting question which one is worse. But since apparently race must be involved in the discourse and you're naive if you don't include it, I'd say the opposite situation is virtually impossible due to the socioeconomic status of the demographics in play. it would almost always have to be for hate filled reasons, and given the historical backdrop it would be a fair assumption to make and certainly newsworthy. Can you realistically imagine the reverse situation here in America? A large group of presumably poor white kids from the inner city mingling in an urban setting with mostly drunk suburban blacks. I didn't think so. Here, I doubt these kids were looking for any particular race in their victims. I'd bet each of those kids assaults more fellow blacks on any given day than than they do whites, Asians, Latinos, etc. I'd also bet that most of the assaults which occur on public square are black on black. All that said, if it IS shown these kids were motivated by race, then throw the book at them I'd say. What I'm unsure of is how the law applies if the victims were chosen based on the perceived wealth and/or vulnerability of their race (e.g the kids thought white people were easy victims). That might fall within the contemplation of a 'hate' crime even though the actual motivation has nothing to do with hate
  17. Of course there is.... but not moreso IMO than a group of people who have a reason, such as race or sexual orientation or some other unjustified reason. I suppose it is an interesting question whether it's worse when a jumping is done for hate filled reasons or for no reason at all or here, if the accounts above are accurate, for purposes of stealing from the person getting jumped
  18. The problem is these youth do not care. About anything. Certainly not cops. If they do get picked up, they are back home by 6 pm with a badge of honor to show off for their friends. We need to start having REAL punishment for these teens. Lock them up for a while. Make them do labor. Is it me, or didn't this happen for St Patricks day 2014 as well. An unruly mob attack? And other RTA incidents? Seems like police should be seeing a pattern.... http://www.19actionnews.com/story/25043654/17-year-old-girl-victim-of-attack-on-rta-rapid It depends on what they are picked up for. If they kill or severely injure someone they are not home by 6. If they are arrested for disorderly conduct, they might be home by 6....but so would you and me. The juvenile justice system as a whole might need some reform, but it can't be reformed only for a certain group of kids or based on who the victim is or where the crime is committed. These hooligans deserve severe punishment, but no different than if they "jumped" another kid at school and stole his wallet.... whatever that punishment may be. Yet, complain all you want that the city is soft on this type of crime, I guarantee you if they're caught they will face a bevy of charges, such as aggravated rioting, inducing panic, etc, which kids in that other circumstance would probably never have to deal with. And when their charges are plead down to something more like what the kids from the other example would start the process with, people will cry foul Again, before responding..... yes, they deserve to be punished.... severely punished

The other night was Memphis' worst home loss of the season..... and it wasn't as close as the final score indicated. We have beat every team from the vaunted Western Conf except the Rockets.....and one of those games against the Rockets we didn't have LeBron. The other we took them to OT We ended our season against the Western Conference winning something like 15 of the last 16 games. We are now 13-0 on the season when we have more than one day's rest between games, giving us time to get a practice in. That bodes well for the playoffs given the wider spacing between games and is a credit to our coaching staff. KLove's numbers also jump significantly (over 20ppg and over 50%FG) when we have more than one day's rest. But he is a stretch 4. He is not JUST a stretch 4 (a la Ryan Anderson), but he is a stretch 4 nonetheless. He certainly is not an interior bruiser who is going to get the majority of his points in the paint. He is a power forward who can shoot the 3. That is what a stretch 4 is. He gets inside touches. He just isn't the focal point of the offense like he was in Minny. The offense does not run through him at the elbow. He had to know that wasn't going to happen coming in.

Doesn't fit in? How so? He allows LeBron and Kyrie to thrive. He's damn near the effect fit for us at the 4 on the offensive end. We replace him with a traditional 4 and we would have to make some major adjustments to the way we play
  21. Sheesh..... I feel old if a restaurant that is considered a 'landmark' was a McDonald's when I started high school. I was never a big fan of Lemon Grass, but many in my family were and it was a nice component of the Cedar-Lee district. It seemed to have a decent crowd each time I went.

For sound economic reasons, Love will opt in to his contract for next year. Book it. The 'nightmare scenario' if there is one will come the following summer. He can then decide if he wants to go back to being the primary scoring option on a bad team or continue to be a vital piece of a team that will compete for a championship every year of his prime

So Myles Austin is the fifth guy? I don't think Miles will be back

Dwayne Bowe has signed. If healthy, he is a good pickup. I like the combo of him and Hartline on the outside with Hawkins and Gabriel in the slot
