^Not if you are already in the league's program and risk a suspension, which would blow the lid off the first violation.
  2. Dude, I explained the clock situation upthread. With proper clock management, they absolutely, without a doubt, could've run two plays. In fact, they could've run three plays with ease. If the Pats unnecessarily pile on and prevent Lynch from getting up, it is a delay of game penalty..... so they couldn't take it to the extreme. The refs would've been very conscious of such tactics given the situation. But, regardless of all that, the point you are missing is, chances are, they wouldn't have needed more than one play. Lynch would've plowed right in and scored on that very next play. Instead, Carroll went with your strategy and is getting absolutely panned for it.
  3. I think they could have squeezed in second and third down and then, if they hadn't scored, call the timeout and weigh their options for fourth down. The plays would be straight dives..... not roll-outs or sweeps which take longer to develop. The linemen would be basically in the same spot ready to line up after the play was over. It is one thing to go away from Lynch when he has been stuffed twice in a row. It is another thing to go away from him with a little less than a minute left after he brought you just a few feet from the goalline on a simple off-tackle dive....... especially when we are talking about perhaps the best short-yardage back in the league.

Total speculation, but is there anything to the suspicion that maybe Johnny failed some league test for substance abuse? Those results are kept confidential.... especially a 'step 1' failure, right?

These guys need this upcoming two day break. Their January schedule was brutal. I think there was only one time all month they had more than 1 day off. They look tired. The All-Star break should give them a good rest too.
  6. You most certainly can if you manage the clock correctly. They were basically back in the huddle with 50 seconds to go after that first run. I don't know that I would've even huddled. I would've set them right up at the line and called the same play which just got you four yards, with the option for Wilson to audible to the other side of the line. They could've easily got in all three plays in that time. You also have the option of burning one of those downs on a spike if you really need the clock stopped and can't use a TO. Instead, they tried to run the clock down, which is certainly up for debate, trying not to give Brady a chance to drive down for a game-tying FG. I was actually a bit surprised the Pats did not call a TO after that first run.
  7. Not when you have #BeastMode at your disposal. That factor changes the analysis in a big way. If the Pats were able to stuff Lynch at the goal-line on 3 straight plays, i'd be shocked, but so be it. But at least the 'Hawks would've thrown their best punch.

He realized his brand was in the toilet. Im sure that was the motivation, but if something positive comes of it, I don't care the reasons why he went.
  9. TEs get open in the back of the end zone when they slip by a goalline defense which is pinning their ears back against the run. The play-action is sold and the TE goes from run blocking to getting open behind the defense in a flash. The play the Seahawks ran is a quick slant to the slot WR. The opening is supposed to be in the middle of the defense. It can work if executed perfectly, but it is a very risky play. It's not just that the defense is scrunched into the box and can jump the pass.... there also is a high risk that the ball is tipped or swatted at the line of scrimmage, particularly with a short QB like Wilson.
  10. I had done my own analysis on here a few years back. It goes strictly by MSA, so it is not limited to urbanized areas. What really affects Greater Cleveland's density numbers is the lake, with about 2/3 of Cuyahoga County being in the water, and large chunks of the other counties within the MSA being the same. I did not account for hillsides or other factors, such as the industrial valley or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park or the Metroparks which are not eligible for development. Cincy has similar obstacles, for sure. I did factor in the parts of the Cincy MSA outside of Ohio. So...... just going strictly by 'land', regardless of whether it was buildable or not, I came up with the following...... Cincy Metro - 4,399 sq. mi. for a pop. density of 498/sq. mi. C-bus Metro - 3,983 sq. mi. for a pop. density of 458/sq. mi. Cleveland Metro - 2,004 sq. mi. for a pop density of 1040/sq. mi. The areas exlude water (some of Cleveland metro's counties are nearly or more than half in the lake) and is based on the following: Cincy's metro includes 15 counties - 3 in Indiana (Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio), 7 in Kentucky (Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Pendleton), and 5 in Ohio (Brown, Clermont, Hamilton, Warren, Butler) C-Bus's metro includes 8 counties (Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Morrow, Pickaway, Union)) all in Ohio. Cleveland's metro includes 5 counties (Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina) all in Ohio. Read more: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,24919.105.html#ixzz3Qc39iFvj
  11. You're never really 'open' going over the middle against a goalline defense. The fault I thought was in the ball placement. Wilson needed to throw the ball lower and more towards the WRs back shoulder, so that it was either caught by his WR or resulted in an incompletion. He led the WR a little too much and threw the ball high, allowing the CB to get position to make the INT.

Johnny Manziel has checked into a rehab facility, supposedly for his drinking problem.

We're only 1 game back on the Bulls. Things have changed pretty quickly for the Cavs. Not only are they winning, but it seems as if they just run the other team out of the gym when they get going. 20 point 2nd or 3rd quarter leads are becoming fairly routine.
  14. Wow. A very competitive and exciting, but very poorly played Super Bowl. The Pats won despite throwing two picks and only one pass longer than 20 yards (23 yards to be exact) to go along with less than 60 yards rushing. Seattle gave the game away.... but I don't feel bad as they were only there because GB gave the game away in the NFC championship. Carroll will never live down that call at the end.

It will be extremely difficult to knock off Portman, especially in a Presidential election year. He appeals to those Ohio suburban swing voters too much.
  16. ^That site is either not including Canton or the numbers are wrong.

That last 3 pointer was just flat out cold-blooded. I'm jealous of you all who were there at the Q. It seemed to be really loud watching it on TV. Love's first quarter efficiency vs. the rest of the game has become a pattern. It seems to indicate that he has some significant wear and tear which is affecting his game. My guess is he has one of those back injuries which he can play through but will require off-season surgery. Just a guess. There is all this talk of him being not being involved enough in the offense, but the truth is that he would average over 20ppg if he simply was hitting the shots he is more than capable of hitting. He gets good looks in this offense. I think his practice time needs to be focused on his mid-range game. There is no reason why he is not money from 15 feet, hurt or not.
  19. I think the listing above is confusing MSAs with CSAs. Cleveland and Akron and Canton are separate MSAs, but were recently combined into one CSA. The numbers are still off, however, as the new CSA has over 3.5mill pop.

But make sure to tuck your necklace into your shirt so it doesn't obstruct your view. Rolling up dollar bills can be a bit tricky if you have something dangling from your neck....

Honestly, better for the Browns if the sports talks shows are talking about him and not so focused on the Johnny hysteria and apparently dysfunctional front office

^^Carter's circumstances were different. The league's penalties were not the same. He was set to play for the Eagles and then they cut him. Let's also keep in mind that Carter's problems were with the heavier drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy. Cutting him DID send a message. It took away his paycheck and shed light on a problem the league was all too willing to keep in the closet. Cutting Josh at this point is probably exactly what Josh (and especially his agent) want. It would allow him to negotiate a new deal with a team of his choosing.
  24. Hts121 replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Sports Talk
I just don't understand how that will save him. The NFL's wake up call is going to work or it is not. The Browns cutting him at this point is not going to do anything for him personally. He is not making any money from the Browns which will be taken away if he is cut. In fact, he would likely make MORE money if he is cut once he is ready to return, as opposed to playing out his current contract, which will be tolled. He doesn't count towards the roster and doesn't count towards the cap, so no benefit to the Browns.
  25. Hts121 replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Sports Talk
I still don't see the need to officially cut him. All that gives him is the opportunity to latch on to the team of his choice once his suspension is up. He is essentially cut for all intents and purposes for the next year. Hold on to him and see what happens with his rehab. At the very least, his trade value is higher when he is about to return to the field. At best, he turns his life around and comes back better than ever. There is no symbolism to cutting him within the locker room, although there may be to certain segments of the fanbase.
