  1. For some, it's all in the 'context' folks.....

Actually, I remember reading this past summer that despite the fact that CP3 is probably LBJ's best friend in the entire league, neither have much interest in playing with the other on the same team. LeBron has always wanted to be as much Magic as he wanted to be Michael. Don't you remember this commercial from when he first entered the league...... it might be my favorite LeBron commercial of all time (although the recent 'Together' and 'Take me to Church' ones certainly have more of an emotional appeal)....
  3. Race traitors? Black police officers are some of the most respected members of the black community...... to the extent people continually insist on their being a 'black community'

So the measuring stick everyone has been waiting for is finally here. Through 17 games, the 2010 Heat were 9-8 and in a worrisome slump. Through 17 games, the 2014 Cavs are 10-7 and have won 5 straight. Oh yeah, and Kyrie...... that boy is goooooood. Definitely showed himself as a 'signature athlete' last night under the bright lights of MSG.
  5. Didn't Kasich (via DeWine) essentially reach the same conclusion last year?
  6. It's complicated. Once hired, the City has no means to force the employee to maintain his/her residency. All the application calls for is proof of bona fide residency in the City for the one year leading up to submission of the application, which happens usually months before the actual exam and sometimes a year or more before the actual hiring. The applicant can move out of the City one day after submitting his/her application and still get the 10 points. On the other hand, an applicant can be living within the City for 8 months prior with full intent to stay and not get the points. Further, an applicant could have lived in the City for 20 years prior to application but if he/she moved out of the City within the year prior to application, no points. It's arbitrary. Exactly why the latest charter provision attempting to do the same thing on promotional exams was ruled unconstitutional and in violation of the statutory prohibition on residency requirements. I do not believe that anyone has ever challenged the legality of the residency points on entrance exams.
  7. ^The hiring process is flawed, as I said above. The job pool is effectively limited to City residents and military veterans. Much more qualified candidates, as demonstrated on competitive civil service examinations minus the bonus points which residency and veteran status get you, are not even considered. On the last Firefighter exam, which is scored essentially the same as the police exam, the only guy who got a 100% on the test itself, was ranked in the 300's when all the bonus points were factored and was never considered for employment because his ranking was too far down the list of candidates who were certified to the appointing authority.

The issue with playing Haywood IMO is a matter of finding the minutes for him in the rotation. Andy, Love, and TT eat up almost all of the minutes at the 4 and 5. Marion has some spurts at the 4 too. If we got a more effective rim-protector, who wouldn't be such a liability otherwise and who wouldn't slow down our tempo or clog the lane on offense, Blatt would be forced to cut some minutes from the guys already in the rotation. Haywood just is not worth it at this point in his career. His value will come if we get caught in a playoff series with a team that is just abusing us on the inside, i.e. Orlando in 2009. On another note, not sure if everyone caught that Nike is giving Kyrie his own signature shoe. That is a huge deal and an indicator of his stature. The last player to be given a signature shoe was Kevin Durant in 2006. Also, if you have time, another great read from Grantland, this one on Mike Miller - http://grantland.com/features/everybody-loves-mike-miller-nba-cleveland-cavaliers-lebron-james-memphis-grizzlies-orlando-magic-tracy-mcgrady/

^He was asked about the lack of PT for the vets. Here is his answer from last night: "It's not precautionary that I am saving them for the playoffs," he said. "The team has just been playing good. I've just been going with what has worked. If it ain't broke then don't fix it." He also had a quote when talking about the bench following up on what we discussed above: "We need to do better," Blatt said. "I'd hope that when Matty comes back he will give us a lift." Then Blatt paused for a moment as he was trying to figure out the pronunciation of Dellavedova's last name. Then said: "I love that Australian kid, I love him. When he comes back I think that will give us a lift and stretch the options we have. That's an area we have to do better in, no question about it." That part I bolded was very apparent during the summer league. Not surprising. What coach wouldn't love Delly? One of the most encouraging things over the past several games is the ability to build big leads and essentially rest our starters for pretty much the entire 4th quarter. Blatt seems to like to stick Kyrie out there for at least a few minutes to start the quarter and secure the game, but then goes to an all-bench lineup. The bench hasn't been all that bad in blowouts during the fourth quarter. But it is still proving to be a real weak point. Just check out the +/- numbers of starters compared to bench from last night: KLove +17 LJames +14 TThompson +25 KIrving +31 SMarion +33 DWaiters -18 LAmundson -13 WCherry -16 JHarris -6 AKirk -7
  10. Is Nela Park considered 'industrial'? Does CH have any industrial areas in the entire City?

Here's a good use for the inevitable leftover turkey. Chop it up and mix it into large bowl with cream cheese, diced onions, diced carrots and peas. Add poultry and other seasoning. Take two uncooked crescent roll triangles and mush the long ends together to make a square. Take a serving spoonful out of the bowl and place it in the middle of the square and then close it by pulling up the four corners and mushing them and the edges together. It will end up looking like a large square shaped hot pocket. Add sesame or poppy or whatever seeds to the top. Repeat as necessary until you're out of the filling. Cook at 375 for about 20 to 30 minutes. They are great out of the oven and can also be wrapped up refrigerated and then hate cold

Some rumblings Miller might get a crack at the starting lineup tonight. Ugh. I thought the entire purpose of putting Mario. In that spot was to get better defense into the starting lineup

^I think they would prefer to use their assets on a big man. Much better last night, even if it was against a pretty bad Orlando team.
  14. That's what he meant
  15. Cleveland does it as a containment measure. EC is in shambles. Paying its bills are the least of its problems. It cannot police its own streets. It can't respond adequately to emergencies. Worse yet, the residents who would seek to capitalize on such disadvantages, take full advantage of that. The problems from EC inevitably spill over the border into Cleveland, thereby creating a burden on the City it has to deal with annexation or not. Might as well do something about it.
  16. Dana Kirk is an attorney in Kerrsville Texas http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=Dana+Kirk+Kerrsville+Texas Maybe the Dana Kirk is his son, but even if that is the case, I would bet he is simply one of Johnny's college pals who now works 'security' as part of his 'entourage'
  17. What makes you think he has a security detail? I know his parents had some people follow every now and again while he was at A&M, but I haven't heard anything about him walking around C-Town with a 'security detail'. The whole idea of an NFL player having a security detail is kind of silly to me.
  18. ^Would that be for testing/determining how far down the bedrock is? Or is that a sign they are getting started?
  19. ^^Certainly. But it is going to be awhile before that video is released. As for what might've happened when you were kid, I don't know how old you are, but judging from the 'mu2010' I assume you are quite a bit younger than me. When I was a kid in the 80's, there were actually quite a few of these types of tragedies which led to the laws requiring bright orange tips on toy guns. When I was 10 or so, you could buy a cap-gun revolver or rifle which looked just like the real thing. EDIT(ed to add): one thing to watch for as this story develops is if it was indeed the rookie who fired the shots, questions will be raised if he was a recent combat veteran from the Afghan or Iraq wars. To get a job with the Cleveland Police Department, you need to get extra credit / bonus points on your entrance examination. A perfect 100% without those bonus points won't get you high enough on the list to be certified to the appointing authority for consideration as the top several hundred candidates will only be separated by a few points. You can get 10 points for being a bona fide city resident (even though State law now says you don't have to maintain your residency to keep your job once hired). Most new hires received those 10 points. The other common way, which is often piggy-backed with the 10 point residency bonus, is receiving 5 points for being a military veteran. Upwards of several thousand candidates will take a test from which they are going to hire 50-100 candidates. Many of the top scorers are both City residents and military veterans. How well the department screens for PTSD, especially the troops coming from war zones where children of this age were very actual threats to commit the equivalent of suicide-by-cop, could develop into a major story. Just speculation on my part at this point as we don't even know if it was the rookie or not.

Did the offense flow better with him and Kyrie playing together? I don't know. I was thinking more about his perimeter defense and the fact that we don't have a backup PG, unless you count Will Cherry who is a career D-League guy. Delly was by far our best player in the Summer League and showed an ability to run this offense as a true PG. Maybe even more sorely missed is the extra possessions he gets us with his all out hustle, winning the 50-50 balls, taking charges, and diving all over the floor. I guarantee you Lou Williams does not torch us for a career high 32 on Saturday if Delly plays. Toronto got back into that game because we had no one who could check Lou Williams. As a matter of fact, Chuck Hayes was asked what Lou Williams saw when he came in and let it loose on us in the first half, and Hayes responded quite simply - "Will Cherry"
  22. Huh? Nobody claimed that the cops knew it was fake. That much is clear that they were not made aware it was fake. And, yes, even if the dispatcher had relayed that it might be fake, they still would err on the side of caution, but they also would've been more mindful of the possibility that it was indeed fake. There are countless examples nationwide of police approaching armed suspects who refuse to put the gun down (or are hesitant at first to do so) but are not shot dead. How about those Cliven Bundy supporters who actually aimed their weapons at law enforcement? Would the cops have been justified in shooting them on he spot? How about those idiots who open carry semi-automatic rifles into a restaurant? What happens when they don't immediately comply with police orders to drop their weapon? Don't let your stereotypes guide you to some preferred conclusion here. There is a lot of evidence which we simply won't know for a long time. On a related note, I wonder what is taking Breitbart and all of those websites so long to break into this kid's facebook page and start circulating the most incriminating photos they can find. Any word on their progress? Apparently, he had no juvenile record, so no luck there.
  23. ^Civilianization of dispatch centers is a cause for concern. Privatization of dispatch centers is even more reason to worry. Certainly a helluva lot more plausible than the thought that he was reaching into his waistband to pull it out and aim it at the cops as if to say "no, you drop your weapons, pigs!"

^Actually, Hoyer said on that big play to Austin he was just waiting for the LB to blitz because he knew he could burn the defense over the middle when that happened. It did and he connected with Austin on the play that set us up for that FG.
  25. He didn't point it at the cops. The cops have admitted that much. Where did you get that from? So many assumptions being made here. Sheesh. The cops said he reached for the gun, which was in his waistband, but did not point it at them. My guess, and that is all it is, would be that his instinctual reaction was to grab the gun and toss it and then, as you say you yourself might have done, run away. He knew he was in trouble. He was probably scared sh!tless, both of the cops and what might happen to him at home if the cops brought him there and told his parents what he was doing. Imagine how perfectly you would have reacted had the cops come running at you with their guns drawn. EDIT: I am not implying the cops should not have approached him with their weapon drawn. Although the 911 caller told the dispatcher he thought it was a fake gun, that message was never relayed to the responding officers for whatever reason..... even still, they would have approached him in the same manner, although maybe with a little less anxiety about the whole thing. One detail which might become relevant is one of the cops was a rookie. The other was a 10 year veteran. Only one of them fired shots.
